Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for armored protection of an inflatable boat floats.
- Kevlar shielding material made of flexible fabric which, although that does not cause significant overload to the boat, is not sufficiently resistant to ammunition impacts, for example of 7.62 caliber NATO, 5.56 NATO, or 7.62 x 39.
- Another known solution is to use a shielding material based on ceramic or an alloy of metal sufficiently resistant to the impacts of ammunition, but causing, because of its mass per square meter relatively high, a significant overload of the boat.
- the object of the present invention is to eliminate the disadvantages above by proposing a device for armored protection of an inflatable boat floats and which is characterized in that it includes armor plates fixed juxtaposed to the faces external floats all along them and which are made of a light and resistant material ammunition impacts.
- each armor plate is removably attached to the outer face of the float corresponding by at least one strap surrounding the plate transversely to the float passing through a ring of return fixed to the float under the lower part of the plate and whose two free ends engage in two clamping rings fixed to the internal face of the float located inside the boat.
- each armor plate is fixed to the external face of the corresponding float by two longitudinally spaced straps surrounding the plate transversely to the float passing respectively in two return rings fixed to the float under the bottom of the plate, both free ends of each strap engaging two clamping rings fixed to the internal face of the float located inside the boat.
- Each armor plate is enclosed in a fabric cover and each fabric strap has its strand internal attached by sewing to the internal face of the cover coming into contact on the external face of the float and its external strand is in contact with the external face of the cover.
- the cover is fabric based hypalon TM and neoprene.
- the adjacent armor plates are attached to each other by detachable connecting means.
- each connecting means of two adjacent armor plates includes a strap extending longitudinally to the float and having one of its ends fixed by sewing to the external face of the cover containing one of the two armor plates adjacent while the opposite end of the strap engages in two clamping rings secured to the external face of the other adjacent armor plate in crossing its associated cover.
- the armor plates are made by molding and conform to the external shape of the float.
- the armor plates descend approximately to the waterline limit of boat.
- Each armor plate is made in one composite material based on polyethylene fibers unidirectional and vinyl resin.
- the composite material comprises about 80% in weight of polyethylene and about 20% by weight of resin.
- the material advantageously comprises four layers of polyethylene fibers with the fibers unidirectional of a layer oriented at 90 ° relative to the unidirectional fibers of a layer adjacent.
- the material has a mass of 17 kg per m 2 .
- reference 1 designates an inflatable boat of the float type comprising in the present case two lateral floats 2 and a float front 3 of substantially curved shape connecting the two lateral floats 2.
- the floats 2, 3 can be made in a single part into which is blown air as is known per se.
- the floats 2, 3 are interconnected, in their lower part, by a part 4 forming floor of transport of people.
- the inflatable boat 1 is powered by a motor thermal (not shown) located at the rear of the boat.
- the floats 2, 3 can be of the type cylindrical envelopes or tubes.
- the inflatable boat 1 comprises a float shielding protection device 2, 3.
- This shielding device consists of armor plates 5 removably fixed so juxtaposed to the external faces of the floats all along of these.
- each armor plate 5 which is preferably made by molding, partly marries the outer shape of the corresponding float and is attached to it by two straps longitudinally spaced 6 each surrounding the plate 5 transversely to the float.
- Each fixing strap 6 passes through a ring of reference 7 fixed to the float under the lower part of the plate 5 and the two free ends of the two strands of the strap located on each side of the plate 5 engage in two 8 parallel rings close to each other so as to allow a tightening of the strap by traction on both ends, as is known per se.
- the two rings 8 for clamping and locking the two ends of a strap 6 are attached to the face internal of the corresponding float 2, 3 located at inside the boat.
- the free ends of both straps of the strap 6 can be folded down on the outer strand portion of the strap and be there maintained by any appropriate means so as not to hang freely.
- each shielding plate 5 is enclosed in a cover 9 made of a fabric based on hypalon TM and neoprene by being in close and intimate contact with outer and inner sides of the armor plate 5.
- each fabric strap 6 is fixed by its strand internal to the corresponding internal face of the cover 9 in contact with the corresponding external face of floats 2, 3 and, of course, the other outer strand of the strap 6 is in contact on the external face of the cover.
- the cover has its fabric which is fixed by gluing to the armor plate correspondent 5.
- the adjacent armor plates 5 are fixed two by two to each other by a connecting means detachable constituted by a strap 10 extending longitudinally to floats 2, 3 and having one of its ends fixed by sewing to the outer face of the cover 9 containing one of the armor plates adjacent 5 while the opposite end of the strap 10 engages in two rings 11 integral with the face of the other adjacent shielding plate 5 in passing through the associated cover 9 so as to block by tightening, as is known per se and represented in Figure 4, the end of the strap 10 by pulling on it.
- a connecting means detachable constituted by a strap 10 extending longitudinally to floats 2, 3 and having one of its ends fixed by sewing to the outer face of the cover 9 containing one of the armor plates adjacent 5 while the opposite end of the strap 10 engages in two rings 11 integral with the face of the other adjacent shielding plate 5 in passing through the associated cover 9 so as to block by tightening, as is known per se and represented in Figure 4, the end of the strap 10 by pulling on it.
- each strap connecting two adjacent armor plates 5 aura one of its ends secured to one of the two plates and its other end passing through the two blocking rings 11 integral with the other plate.
- the connecting straps 10 of the armor plates 5 are located in the vicinity of the upper part of the plates 5 in order to be accessible of a person on the boat.
- the straps of connection 10 of the shielding plates 5 which are fixed to the lateral floats 2, their ends fixed to the corresponding plates 5 located towards the front, in the direction of travel of the boat, while the ends opposite straps attached to the rings 11 are directed towards the back of the boat.
- the tightening of straps 11 is carried out from the front to the rear of the boat in the running direction of the water when moving Of the boat.
- the rings 7, 8 and 11 are made of steel stainless.
- Armor plates 5 provide protection of the boat starting approximately from the top of floats 2, 3 and down, on the side of the boat, practically up to the waterline limit thereof.
- each plate can have a length of about one meter and a width or height about 40 cm.
- each armor plate 5 is made of a composite material based on polyethylene with unidirectional non-crossing fibers and resin preferably of the vinyl type, with the polyethylene having a density of 0.98.
- the composite material comprises about 80% by weight of polyethylene and about 20% by weight of resin.
- This material can include four fiber layers unidirectional polyethylene connected by resin, each layer of polyethylene having its fibers unidirectional oriented at 90% compared to unidirectional fibers of an adjacent layer.
- the composite material can have a thickness of 18 mm and a mass of 17 kg per m 2 so that to protect the external part of an inflatable boat with a length of 6.40 m, it will suffice to use 6.6 m 2 of this material, which will result in an overload of the inflatable boat of approximately 113 kg.
- the above-described shielding device the invention provides excellent impact resistance ammunition of a caliber of 7.62 NATO, 5.56 NATO and 7.62 x 39, without overloading the boat compared to protective ceramic material previously used and who overloaded boats with an overload practically three times greater than that resulting from shielding device of the invention.
- the main qualities of the inflatable boat namely its lightness, its fast speed of movement and its stability on water, are maintained despite the presence armor plates of the invention.
- the armor plates housed in their respective covers can be easily mounted on the floats of the boat and disassembled from them, without necessity of special tools, since the operator has just tighten or loosen the fixing angles of the covers for or floats.
