Definitions
- the invention relates to a closure cap with the features of the preamble of patent claim 1.
- Sealing caps made of plastic material are used in a large number for closing containers, for example beverage bottles.
- a self-venting closure is known from DE 196 13 830, in which the cap base is weakened.
- the weakening leads to the fact that the cap base is arched outwards (so-called doming) and that an inner seal formed in one piece with the cap base is relieved of pressure.
- the closure cap should be simple and economical to manufacture and should be able to be screwed on using conventional screwing devices.
- the cap essentially consists of a cap base and a cap wall.
- a circumferential inner seal is provided on the cap base.
- the seal is provided with a sealing line which can be pressed against the inside of the container mouth and thereby achieves a sealing effect.
- the closure cap can be held on the inside of the cap wall with retaining elements, for example a screw thread, on the container mouth.
- the closure cap has a first stop which arises approximately from the bottom of the closure cap.
- a second stop is arranged axially between the retaining elements and the first stop to limit the screwing-on movement of the closure cap.
- the second stop can, for example, engage with the start of a thread at the container mouth and thus limit the unscrewing movement.
- the second stop is advantageously designed as a circumferential ring, the stop plane of which extends approximately perpendicular to the axis of the closure cap.
- the cap wall is also provided with a deformable wall section.
- the deformable wall section is arranged between the first and the second stop.
- the deformability can be achieved by weakening the wall thickness in the area of the wall section, for example by a recess on the inside of the cap wall.
- the inventors of the present invention have found that weakening the closure cap in the region of the cap wall has surprising advantages over known weakenings in the cap base.
- An increased internal pressure in the container closed by the closure cap does not primarily lead to a curvature of the cap base, but rather to an axial displacement of the cap base. So the movement is essentially linear. This means that any seals on the outside or on the front of the container mouth also come out of sealing engagement due to the axial translational movement of the cap base. Of course, a certain curvature can still occur.
- the axial distance between the first and the second stop on the one hand and the depth of penetration of the sealing line on the other hand are selected such that the sealing line disengages from the inside of the container mouth at a predetermined internal pressure.
- This minimum pressure varies depending on the contents in the container. In the case of fruit juices it is around 2 bar, in the case of slightly C0 2 -containing beverages at 5 bar and in the case of a content with 4% by volume of C0 2 above 8 bar.
- the degree of deformability of the wall section is also selected accordingly.
- the first stop comes into engagement with the top of the container mouth when screwed on before the second stop comes into engagement with the thread start.
- the penetration depth of the sealing line denotes the axial distance of the sealing line from the first stop in the deformed state or the distance of the sealing line from the top of the container mouth.
- the deformable wall section is pretensioned to a predetermined value in the manner of a spring when the closure is screwed on.
- the time of venting can be predetermined by a suitable choice of the penetration depth of the sealing line. If the internal pressure is so great that the cap base is pushed against the spring force by the depth of penetration, the closure vents.
- the deformability is set for normal conditions, ie for temperatures in the range of 15 - 35 ° C. If the outside temperature exceeds these values, the deformability becomes larger (softening of the plastic material). The ventilation function is therefore favored at a higher temperature.
- the two stops serve to precisely define the weakening zone in the cap wall.
- a precisely predefined ventilation pressure can be set.
- the inner seal also advantageously has ventilation cutouts on its side facing the cap apron.
- the ventilation cutouts are located below the sealing line.
- the inner seal is advantageously designed as a so-called olive seal. This means that the sealing line defines a maximum outer diameter of the inner seal and is arranged at a distance from the inside of the cap base.
- Such olive seals have the advantage of sealing inside the container mouth, where a precisely defined sealing surface can normally be found without damage.
- the disadvantage of such olive seals is that due to the pretension they already seal when the closure cap is not in the fitted position, but slightly above the sealing position axially. Thanks to the venting cutouts, which advantageously begin immediately below the sealing line, the sealing effect is canceled as soon as the sealing line lies outside the container mouth. An extension of the sealing effect due to a displacement of the sealing line over the inner seal that tapers downwards is thus prevented.
- the cap can also be provided with a circumferential sealing bead which can be pressed against the outside of the container mouth.
- the sealing bead is arranged axially between the first and second stop.
- the closure cap is also advantageously provided with hold-open elements.
- Such hold-open elements can, for example, above the sealing line on the cap wall facing surface of the inner seal may be provided.
- the hold-open elements prevent the sealing line from moving. If doming of the cap base should nevertheless occur with increased internal pressure, the hold-open elements are supported on the container mouth, so that the position of the inner seal with respect to the container mouth is essentially only changed by translation.
- Open-hold elements can of course be attached to the other sealing elements, in particular to the second stop acting as a seal or to the optional annular bead which can be pressed against the outside of the container.
- FIG. 1 shows a cross section through a closure cap according to the invention
- FIG. 2 shows an enlarged section of the sealing part of a closure cap on a container mouth
- Figure 3 is an enlarged view of the sealing part of a closure on a container with increased internal pressure
- Figure 4 is a schematic representation of a bottom view of a closure cap.
- Figure 1 shows a cap 1, which consists essentially of a cap base 2 and a cap wall 3.
- the cap wall 3 is provided with a screw thread 6, with which the closure cap 1 can be screwed onto a container mouth 20.
- An inner seal 4 in the form of a circumferential sealing lip is arranged on the inside of the cap base 2.
- the inner seal 4 is designed as a so-called olive seal.
- the inner seal 4 has a sealing line 5 which can be pressed against the inside of a container mouth.
- the sealing line 5 is arranged at a distance from the inside of the cap base 2 and defines the maximum outside diameter of the surface 10 of the inside seal 4 facing the cap apron 3.
- the inner seal 4 is provided below the sealing line 5 with ventilation cutouts 11 which are arranged on the surface 10.
- a first stop 8 is provided on the inside of the cap base 2.
- the first stop 8 is designed as a circumferential bead, which also has a sealing function.
- a second stop 7 is arranged on the inside of the cap wall 3 above the thread 6.
- the stop 7 has a stop plane which runs approximately perpendicular to the axis of the closure cap.
- the stops 7, 8 are spaced apart in the axial direction by a predeterminable distance d.
- the cap wall 3 is provided with a deformable wall region 9 between the first stop 8 and the second stop 7.
- the outside of the cap apron 3 is also with a Corrugation or provided with ribs 14 which give the cap wall 3 below the weakened zone 9 sufficient strength and good grip properties.
- the closure cap 1 can also be provided with a guarantee band 15 and with vertical ventilation slits 16 which interrupt the thread 6.
- Guarantee bands and ventilation slots are known to the person skilled in the art.
- FIG 2 the sealing part of the closure cap is shown enlarged according to Figure 1.
- the closure cap 1 When the closure cap 1 is screwed onto a container mouth 20, the first stop 8 first engages with the end face 23 of the container mouth 20.
- the cap wall 3 By further screwing on, the cap wall 3 is deformed axially in the region of the deformable wall section 9 until the second stop 7 engages with the thread start 22 of the container mouth 20.
- the deformable wall area 9 is therefore pretensioned to a precisely predetermined value.
- a circumferential sealing bead 12 seals against the outside 24 of the container mouth 20.
- the inner seal 4 bears with the sealing line 5.
- the sealing line 5 has a penetration depth t in the container mouth which is predetermined by the position relative to the second stop 7.
- the cap base 2 is shifted upward in the axial direction A (see FIG. 3).
- the axial displacement of the cap base 2 is favored by the deformable wall section 9.
- the second stop 7 remains in engagement with the thread start 22 of the container mouth 20.
- the first stop 8 is lifted from the end face 23 of the container mouth 20 and the inner seal 4 slides along the inside 21 of the container mouth 20 in the direction of the arrow.
- Direction A upwards, so that the sealing line 5 comes out of engagement with the inside 21.
- An increased internal pressure can therefore be compensated for by the ventilation cutouts 11. Due to the thread pitch, there is only a sealing contact between the second stop 7 and the thread start 22 on a short circumferential section.
- the reduction in the internal pressure is also promoted by the ventilation slots 16 shown in FIG.
- the axial displacement of the cap base 2 also relieves the pressure on the bead 12 pressed against the outside 24 of the container mouth 20, so that venting is possible.
- venting recesses 11 are particularly advantageous because the inner seal 4 is inserted into the container mouth under prestress and the sealing line 5 is arranged deep in the container mouth. Because of the ventilation cutouts 11, ventilation takes place as soon as the sealing line 5 comes out of engagement with the inner surface 21 of the container mouth. Without ventilation cutouts 11, the surface 10 of the inner seal 4 would still remain in sealing engagement with the inside 21 of the container mouth 20 due to the prestress even below the sealing line 5 during the axial displacement.
- the hold-open element 13 or the hold-open elements 13 ensure a straight displacement of the cap base 2 and prevent the inner seal 4 from tilting, i.e. rolls over the surface above the sealing line 5.
- the cap 1 is shown schematically in the bottom view. Threads, stops and the outer sealing bead 12 are omitted for simplification.
- the ventilation cutouts 11 and the hold-open elements 13 are arranged regularly over the circumference of the inner seal 4.
- the essence of the invention is to design the cap base 2 without weakenings, so that doming of the cap base, i.e. an outward curvature is made difficult or reduced. Instead, a deformable wall section 9 is provided in the area of the cap wall 3. This weakening in the area of the cap wall 3 allows the cap base to move axially with increased internal pressure.
- the illustration shown in FIG. 3 is exaggerated to illustrate the gas discharge process. In reality, the cap base only rises by a small amount with increased internal pressure. As soon as the internal pressure becomes smaller again, the cap base 2 lowers again and the closure cap 1 seals again. It has been shown that with such arrangements, the internal pressure in the container can be kept at a sufficiently low value over several weeks. A large number of successive venting processes can be observed.
- the distance d between the first stop 7 and the second stop 8 is essential for the degree of pretensioning of the weakening zone 9 in comparison to the axial distance d between the upper edge of the thread start 22 and the end face 23 of the container mouth 20.
- the distance between the stops 7, 8 is 1.3 to 1.5 mm in the exemplary embodiment.
- the distance between the upper edge of the thread start 22 and the end face 23 of the container mouth 20 is 1.7 mm.
- the depth of penetration t of the sealing line 5 is 0.8 to 1.0 mm, depending on the content of the container.
- venting cutouts 11 are arranged at a distance of 0.2 to 0.3 mm below the sealing line 5 on the surface 10 of the inner seal 4.
- the ventilation cutouts 11 extend towards the lower end of the inner seal 4 at least over that part of the surface 10 of the inner seal 4 which, when screwing on or unscrewing the closure cap 1, can be in engagement with the inside 21 of the container mouth.
