Definitions
- the present invention relates to an adjustable low pressure mattress device, used in particular to prevent the formation of bedsores.
- a pressure ulcer consists of a necrosis of the skin resulting from a defect of blood supply, it often develops in people forced to remain bedridden for a long time, because the pressure exerted by the weight of the body can generate, at particular points, an interruption of the blood circulation.
- Mattresses are already known to improve the comfort of the patient at certain points of the mattress. This is the case of the mattress proposed in EP 0 046 008, which comprises a cavity in which is placed an insert which comprises an inflatable base whose upper face has reliefs adapted to support a human body, and which is covered with a cover defining with it a space in which a pressurized gas is blown in such a way that, even if said cover is perforated to allow said gas to escape from the top, the pressure thereof remains slightly higher than that of the inflatable base.
- these mattress devices There are different types of these mattress devices, the most effective are those comprising transversely extending inflatable cells, distributed longitudinally, and that one can, by means of an inflation means, inflate alternately or simultaneously, at a variable pressure, so as to create on the surface of the mattress a movement such as a wave for example.
- the swelling of the cells can be carried out with water, but preferably air is used, the transport of which is more easily controllable and which has shorter reaction times.
- such a mattress consists of a succession of inflatable cells welded together or held together by an envelope, the assembly being covered with a cover of flexible textile material.
- Mattress devices of the type described in document EP 0 445 539 which consists of a mattress for the use of patients suffering from pressure ulcers and / or incontinence, comprising on at least one face, are also known. at least one region where the consistency of the mattress can be changed.
- the mattress comprises at least one cavity adapted to receive an insert, which may consist of a multiplicity of individually inflatable chambers and at will by means of a fluid.
- This mattress device like most, has disadvantages, particularly in terms of maintenance. Indeed, the cells are directly exposed to soiling and dirt, since only protected by the cover. However, despite the fact that these cells are generally designed to be washed or sterilized, this is an easy operation, and constraining.
- the known mattress devices are generally suitable for a person of average size, which has disadvantages for people of large or small size.
- the patients do not always remain bedridden, they can also take a semi-reclining position, on a chair for example, which can also promote the development of bedsores.
- an adjustable low pressure mattress device whose operation is similar to those used on a bed, it is however difficult, for obvious reasons of cost, to make available to one person a bed and a chair each equipped with a mattress device as described above.
- the present invention aims to provide an adjustable low pressure mattress device, used in particular to prevent the formation of bedsores, to remedy the various aforementioned drawbacks.
- the adjustable low pressure mattress device used in particular to prevent the formation of bedsores, object of the present invention, is of the type comprising several inflatable cells alternately, simultaneously or with variable pressure, according to predefined sequences, to create on the surface of the mattress a movement assimilable by the patient to a massage, and it is essentially characterized in that said cells are incorporated, individually and / or grouped, in at least one insert to be placed, removably, in at least one excavation practiced in one side of the mattress.
- the mattress device according to the invention may comprise either several inserts incorporating one or more inflatable cells and taking place in excavations made in the mattress at specific locations, or a single insert incorporating several inflatable cells distributed in groups so as to correspond to specific locations.
- the mattress consists of a block of synthetic foam covered with a removable protective cover.
- each insert consists of a block of synthetic foam that can be covered with a removable protective cover, and in which is practiced at least one housing intended to accommodate at least one cell inflatable.
- the mattress and the insert are made by superposition of two layers of synthetic foam of different characteristics so that the upper layer is pleasant to the touch.
- the device comprises several inserts of which at least two, of equal dimensions and where the inflatable cells are arranged differently, are interchangeable.
- Two inserts of the mattress device according to the invention can thus have the same dimensional characteristics, against the inflatable cells can be distributed differently, so that an exchange of positions can allow to modify the specific locations to be treated. This advantageously makes it possible to adapt the mattress device according to the invention to the size of the patient.
- At least one of the inserts of the first embodiment is connected to the air compressor independently of the other inserts, so that it can be used as a cushion.
- the device comprises an insert which incorporates at least two groups of inflatable cells, and which is reversible in the direction of the length.
- the insert has two groups unequal in number of inflatable cells, the largest group in number of inflatable cells is intended to take place under the patient's pelvis, while the smallest group in number of inflatable cells is intended to take place under the feet or under the head of said patient, according to the orientation given said insert.
- the thickness of the insert decreases from the end of the largest group in number of inflatable cells to its end comprising the other group of inflatable cells.
- the insert of the second embodiment of the device according to the invention is provided, on the side of the group of smaller number of inflatable cells, means for fixing the back of a chair.
- an adjustable low-pressure mattress device used in particular to prevent the formation of bedsores, according to the invention is in the form of a block 1 of a flexible but relatively firm material such as a foam of synthetic material, in which are made excavations 10, 11 and 12 where housings inserts, respectively 13, 14 and 15, which each incorporate inflatable cells 16 of shape elongated and arranged parallel to each other, and which are connected, independently or not, to an air compressor, not shown.
- a block 1 of a flexible but relatively firm material such as a foam of synthetic material, in which are made excavations 10, 11 and 12 where housings inserts, respectively 13, 14 and 15, which each incorporate inflatable cells 16 of shape elongated and arranged parallel to each other, and which are connected, independently or not, to an air compressor, not shown.
- the mattress device according to the invention is, in use, covered with a removable cover, not shown.
- the block 1 may consist of an inflatable mattress which, after inflation, leaves one or more lights adapted to receive the inserts.
- a mattress has advantages from the point of view cleaning and storage.
- the excavations 10, 11 and 12 are formed in the lower face of the block 1, so that the inserts 13, 14 and 15 are introduced from below, and also that the block 1 consists of two layers 17 and 18 of different materials, in this case synthetic foams that can be secured by gluing.
- the upper layer 17 is thin relative to the lower layer 18, these layers can both be made of the same material such as a polyurethane foam polyether base, with a difference of treatment for the upper layer 17, in so that it is pleasant to the touch, even through the protective cover.
- the excavations 10, 11 and 12 are made in the whole of the lower layer thickness 18 so that the inserts 13, 14 and 15 come into direct contact with the upper layer 17. It is possible, however, that a portion of the lower layer 18 remains between the inserts 13, 14 and 15 and the upper layer 17.
- the inserts 13, 14 and 15 consist of blocks made of a material preferably identical to that of which the block 1 is made, and in which are formed housings for the cells 16 which consist of sealed envelopes, such as tubes or sheaths, which may be identical to those used on current devices.
- the patient By swelling and / or deflating the cells 16 alternately or simultaneously according to predefined sequences, the patient creates a movement on the surface of the mattress that can be assimilated by the patient to a massage.
- the swelling and deflation of the cells 16 is provided by the air compressor, which itself is controlled by a processor that can optionally be programmed to take into account the state and / or weight of the patient.
- the mattress device according to the invention is easy to maintain, since the inserts 13, 14 and 15 are protected in the block 1. Moreover, it is also possible that each of the inserts 13, 14 and 15 is wrapped in a protective cover.
- the latter comprises a block 2 made up of the joining by gluing of two layers 27 and 28 of foam of synthetic material, and in which are made three excavations 20, 21 and 22 for housing respectively inserts 23, 24 and 25 which each incorporate inflatable cells 26, the excavations 20, 21 and 22 being made in the upper face of the block 2 the inserts 23, 24 and 25 are thus introduced from above.
- the inserts 23, 24 and 25, which preferably are each wrapped in a protective cover, not shown, consist of a block of material identical to that of the lower layer 28, covered with a layer of material identical to that of the upper layer 27, so as to achieve continuity when the inserts 23, 24 and 25 are housed in the excavations respectively 20, 21 and 22.
- the entire block 2 is also wrapped in a protective cover.
- At least one of the inserts 23, 24 and 25 can be detached from the assembly so that it can be connected autonomously to the compressor, and serve as a cushion on a chair or the like.
- the cells 26 of the inserts 23 and 25 are not regularly distributed, they are grouped on one side, and not the same according to the insert considered. Also, the inversion of the inserts 23 and 25 makes it possible to modify the dimensional characteristics of the active part of the mattress device, which is the smallest in FIG. 3 and the largest in FIG.
- a mattress device comprises a block 3 in the upper face of which is made an excavation 30 which houses an insert 31, the block 3 and the insert 31 also consist of the superposition of two layers of different materials, in this case an upper layer 32 and a lower layer 33, both of a polyurethane foam polyether base, that of the layer upper 32 being treated to be pleasant to the touch, even through a protective cover.
- the insert 31 contains inflatable cells 34 divided into two groups 35 and 36 of a different number of inflatable cells 34.
- the group 35 consists of six inflatable cells 34 while the group 36 is consisting of three inflatable cells 34.
- the excavation 30 represents in length about two-thirds of the block 3, and is offset on one side, so that when the insert 31 is introduced there, the group 35 occupies substantially the central region of the block, intended to support the patient's pelvis. Also, depending on the orientation of the block 3 on the bed, the group 36 of inflatable cells 34 is intended to support the patient's head or feet.
- insert 31 can be introduced into the excavation 30 under the protective cover of block 3 or over it.
- the thickness of the insert 31 decreases progressively from the last inflatable cell 34 of the group 35 to the end of the insert 31 of the This feature makes it possible, when the group 36 is intended to support the patient's feet, to obtain a progressive physio-anatomic discharge of the patient's lower limbs, from the popliteal fossa to the retro-achilean parts.
- the insert 31 can be used as a mattress for a chair, not shown, in which case it is divided into two parts, a part 37 which incorporates the group 35 of cells 34 and which constitutes the seat, and a portion 38 which incorporates the group 36 of cells 34 which serves to support the patient's head and the cell-free zone against which the back is supported. It will be noted that the portion 38 comprises means 39 for attachment to the chair, such as straps.
- the variation in thickness of the insert 31, in this case its portion 38 allows to gradually discharge the trunk of the patient, lumbar to the shoulder blades.
- the different inserts each consist of a fabric band or the like, optionally waterproofed, on one side of which are transversely secured longitudinal envelopes each intended to receive an inflatable cell. After removal of the cells, the fabric web or the like can be washed easily and folded and stored.
- This variant embodiment is particularly adapted to be associated with an inflatable mattress, the assembly then consisting of an inflatable surround, a peripheral bead, for example, in the center of which is disposed the fabric band provided with its transverse envelopes enclosing the inflatable cells, which of course are of the same thickness as the surrounding.
- the mattress device according to the invention offers many advantages over existing devices. In addition to the cleaning facilities of both the mattress and the active elements that constitute the inflatable cells, modularity and reversibility of the elements that make up the device according to the invention a great versatility of use.
