Description

La présente invention concerne une cartouche de produit consommable pour imprimante, tel que poudre, ou toner, d'impression pour imprimante laser ou encore du ruban d'impression par transfert thermique d'encre. Par transfert thermique, il faut entendre tout procédé de transfert de l'encre d'un ruban au moyen d'une source thermique, y compris donc le procédé de sublimation.
Dans le cas d'une l'imprimante laser, celle-ci comporte un tambour développeur électrostatique sur lequel est formée, par un rouleau chargé électriquement, une couche de charges électriques. Angulairement en aval, le laser balaie chaque génératrice qui passe pour former une image latente selon les données qui le commandent. Lorsque les génératrices du rouleau passent ensuite en regard d'une cartouche de pigment, ou toner, les particules de celui-ci sont attirées par les charges restantes et l'image latente est ainsi révélée pour que ses particules de pigment se déposent progressivement sur une feuille défilant contre une régénératrice du rouleau. Un four fait ensuite pénétrer le toner dans le papier pour l'y fixer définitivement, après régulation de l'épaisseur de pigment par une lame à potentiel réglable.
La qualité de l'image dépend de l'ensemble des réglages des diverses tensions des éléments ci-dessus et de la température du four, en fonction du type de pigment, de son fabricant et du constructeur de l'imprimante.
En outre, cet ensemble optimal de réglages varie en fonction du pourcentage restant de pigment dans la cassette qui le contient.
En pratique, lorsqu'une cassette neuve de pigment est mise en place, l'imprimante effectue automatiquement une impression d'un motif de test et un capteur optique détermine la qualité du résultat obtenu, pour déterminer empiriquement un ensemble de réglages sensiblement optimal. Le capteur ne fournit cependant qu'une information relativement pauvre, étant donné le nombre de paramètres de réglage, si bien que le réglage global n'est que grossier et il n'offre aucune garantie de fiabilité à long terme.
Dans le cas de l'imprimante à tête thermique, la source thermique de l'imprimante, utilisant du papier ordinaire et un ruban d'impression à transfert thermique, comprend une tête d'écriture comportant une pluralité d'éléments chauffants commandés électriquement par des informations logiques.
La qualité d'impression dépend directement des caractéristiques de commande de la tête thermique dont, notamment, les caractéristiques du ruban d'impression.
Comme caractéristiques d'un ruban d'impression à transfert thermique, on citera :
  • son type : à encre noire, à encre de couleur, monochrome ou à plages de couleur multiples, par transfert thermique stricto sensu ou par sublimation, métallisé ou autres,
  • la plage de couleur à l'instant d'impression,
  • la couleur de la plage,
  • le niveau dans la plage à l'instant d'impression,
  • le début de la plage considérée,
  • le niveau dans le ruban à l'instant d'impression,
  • la définition des couleurs des plages du ruban.
Il existe donc une grande variété de rubans possibles.
US-A-5 491 540 enseigne une cartouche de produit consommable pour imprimante comportant une carte à mémoire de données, spécifiant les caractéristiques du produit, que l'on peut relier par un connecteur à un contrôleur de l'imprimante.
Dans le but d'optimiser la qualité d'impression des imprimantes recevant un produit consommable, la demanderesse a donc eu l'idée de proposer l'invention qui va maintenant être présentée.
A cet effet, l'invention concerne une cartouche de produit consommable pour imprimante, comportant une puce électronique de stockage de données techniques caractéristiques du produit consommable et de commande d'impression, la puce étant agencée pour être lue, cartouche caractérisée par le fait que la puce de stockage est disposée sur une carte-support amovible et est agencée pour le téléchargement des données techniques.
Dans une forme de réalisation intéressante, avec, comme produit consommable, du toner, la puce de stockage comporte des données de réglage de la tension d'au moins un rouleau d'impression et de la température d'un four de cuisson du toner.
L'invention sera mieux comprise à l'aide de la description suivante de deux formes de réalisation préférées de la cartouche de l'invention, en référence à la figure unique représentant très schématiquement en coupe une cartouche de ruban encreur, et la partie impression d'une imprimante à tête thermique, appartenant ici à un télécopieur.
La cartouche de ruban, référencée 1, est représentée montée dans un télécopieur. Elle comporte un moyeu 2 portant un rouleau de ruban d'impression 6, ruban qui est reçu sur un moyeu 11 de réception après passage entre une tête thermique d'impression 13 et un rouleau de contre-appui 12, avec une feuille de papier à imprimer, non représentée.
La cartouche 1 porte, sur une face accessible, un circuit 3 de saisie de données techniques caractéristiques du ruban 6 et de commande d'impression de la tête 13. Le circuit 3 est ici une carte portant une puce électronique 4 qui coopère, par des plages de contact de la carte 3, avec un connecteur 15 de l'imprimante relié à une logique 14 de commande de la tête 13. La carte à puce 3 peut ainsi être lue par cette logique 14 pour que celle-ci saisisse, dans la mémoire de la puce 4, les paramètres ou caractéristiques de commande de la tête 13, tels que le type d'encre du ruban 6, évoqués au début. La carte à puce 3 effectue donc le stockage des données de commande et offre à leur lecture par la logique 14.
La puce 4 de saisie de données peut être disposée sur une carte-support amovible comme une carte à puce et, dans ce cas, l'utilisateur plaque ou introduit la carte à puce de saisie (3, 4), sur ou dans un connecteur (15) pouvant alors être intégré à la logique 14.
En variante ou en complément, il peut être prévu de saisir tout ou partie des données de commande de la tête 13 par téléchargement de ces données depuis un serveur.
Dans ce cas, comme le télécopieur comportant l'imprimante dispose d'une interface 16 de raccordement à un réseau de tranmission de données (20), comme le réseau téléphonique commuté ou l'INTERNET, la puce 4 peut commander l'interface 16, par le connecteur 15, pour établir une liaison avec le serveur, afin de télécharger la logique 14 par les données de commande appropriées au ruban de la cartouche 1. Pour cela, la puce 4 émet en ligne le numéro d'appel du serveur puis, la communication établie, elle lui transmet des données identifiant le type de cartouche, tel qu'un numéro de référence. Ce numéro sert d'adresse interne au serveur pour sélectionner les données de commande de tête 13 appropriées et les émettre en retour vers la logique 14, à travers l'interface 16.
Dans le cas de la seconde forme de réalisation, relative à une imprimante à tête laser, la carte à puce 3 est associée à une cartouche de pigment d'impression (toner). Les données de commande de la carte à puce 3 comportent alors divers jeux de commande de réglage des tensions de divers rouleaux ou tambour évoqués au début et de la température du four, en fonction du pigment de la cassette. L'influence de l'hygrométrie peut de même être modélisée et prise en compte à partir des relevés d'un capteur. De préférence, la logique 14 comporte un microprocesseur associé à une mémoire contenant des données identifiant le type de l'imprimante. La logique 14 sélectionne ainsi le jeu de commandes, de la carte à puce 3, qui concerne l'imprimante.
En outre, la carte à puce 3 comporte, pour chaque jeu de commandes, plusieurs blocs de données, ou tableaux, chacun représentant le jeu optimal en fonction du taux de vidage de la cassette de pigment, par exemple à l'origine, après mille impressions et après deux mille impressions.
La logique 14 compte le nombre de tirages et effectue ainsi une mise à jour du jeu optimal de paramètres, éventuellement par interpolation entre deux jeux successifs.
La carte à puce 3 ayant dès l'origine fourni l'identité de la cassette à la logique 14, et donc sa capacité en nombre d'impressions, la logique 14 commande l'affichage d'un message correspondant d'alarme, sur un écran de télécopieur, lorsque la cassette est quasiment épuisée.
Il peut aussi être prévu que ce soit la puce 4 qui, en plus de la mémorisation des données pour une gestion intelligente des réglages, effectue les tâches, exposées ci-dessus, de la logique 14. L'intelligence est donc alors pratiquement en totalité dans la carte à puce 3, pour ce qui concerne les réglages, la logique 14 ne faisant que retransmettre les réglages aux éléments asservis et fournissant les informations à la carte à puce 3. Ce genre de commande intelligente à partir de la carte à puce 3 est aussi valable pour tout autre produit consommable, pour assurer une gestion perfectionnée, optimale, de l'imprimante.

Claims (4)

  1. Cartouche (1) de produit consommable (6) pour imprimante, comportant une puce électronique (4) de stockage de données techniques caractéristiques du produit consommable (6) et de commande d'impression (14), la puce (4) étant agencée pour être lue, cartouche caractérisée par le fait que la puce de stockage (4) est disposée sur une carte-support amovible (3) et est agencée pour le téléchargement des données techniques.
  2. Cartouche selon la revendication 1, dans laquelle, le produit consommable étant du toner, la puce de stockage (4) comporte des données de réglage de la tension d'au moins un rouleau d'impression.
  3. Cartouche selon la revendication 2, dans laquelle la puce de stockage (4) comporte des données de réglage de la température d'un four de cuisson du toner.
  4. Cartouche selon l'une des revendications 2 et 3, dans laquelle les données de réglage de la puce (4) sont associées à divers taux de remplissage en toner de la cartouche.
