Description

The present invention relates to a vacuum cleaner nozzle comprising a box capable of being connected, upwards and backwards, to a suction tube via a connection sleeve swivel, a sole which is located under the housing and which has a suction channel, the bottom of which recesses in the sole, a suction opening located in the suction channel, a scraper member located under the housing and rear wheels, the pivot axis of the sleeve of connection being located behind the axis of rotation of said wheels or coinciding with this axis of rotation.

The term “scraper member” is intended to denote any member such as a brush, for example of the type commonly referred to as "strips" by a person skilled in the art, or such as a squeegee which, during the passage of the nozzle on the floor, rub on the floor to promote cleaning.

We know suckers of this type, for which the scraper member, consisting of one or more brushes, is mounted on a plate housed in the case. The manufacturers of vacuum cleaner nozzles consider general that the scraper member must be able to be retracted into the housing for the passage of the squeegee on carpets or rugs, while it must protrude under the sole through a slit in the latter for the passage of the squeegee on hard floors. So most of the suckers known include a control device for retracting the scraper member, which comprises a plate actuated by a pedal. The need to provide such control means increases considerably the manufacturing costs of the squeegee and, due to the need to operate them frequently, these means may wear out or deteriorate.

French patent application FR-A-2 729 842, in the name of Applicant, simplifies these known suckers by providing for the possibility automatically retract the scraper member depending on whether the squeegee is pushed or pulled. Thus, the sole has a longitudinal housing in hollow which allows the scraper member to fold back into position retracted, this housing being delimited by a wall element against which the scraper member cooperates in abutment in its active position.

It is true that these provisions make it possible to limit the costs of manufacture of the squeegee and its risk of wear, since none no special actuation device should be provided. However, the need to provide the wall element and the housing for the organ scraper in retracted position requires adaptation of the dimension anteroposterior of the sole accordingly. In addition, the organ scraper only works effectively when it is in its active position, that is to say only when the nozzle is moved on the ground in the sense of traction.

It has long been thought that it is not possible to equip a nozzle intended to be used on all types of soil with a fixed scraper member, and the scraper member must be retracted when passing the crevice on floors such as carpets or rugs, to avoid the user too much effort. It is during displacement of the squeegee thrust on the ground that the user or the user exerts the maximum effort, while the pulling movement backwards is less painful. Thus, in the French patent application FR-A-2 729 842 above, it was intended that the scraper member does not occupy its position active only when pulling backwards which, like indicated above, has the drawback of not rendering the organ effective scraper only on half the path of the squeegee on the ground.

Document JP-A-05261038 discloses a vacuum cleaner nozzle, the sole has two wire-stripping elements located in its part front and sides, as well as two brushes, respectively arranged in front and behind the suction opening. At the back, the squeegee has a wire puller roller. The scraping organs that constitute brushes are fixed, which is allowed by the fact that these brushes are in shrinkage with respect to the fixed wire stripping elements and the roller hard son.

The object of the invention is to propose an even simpler nozzle and less expensive to manufacture than the nozzles of the aforementioned prior art, which can be used on all types of soil, without excessive effort on the part of the user, while giving results, as to the quality suction and final cleaning of floors, which are at least comparable to those of the nozzles of the prior art, or even better.

This goal is achieved in a vacuum cleaner nozzle according to claim 1.

The present invention, by providing a scraper member which makes continuously protruding under the sole, helps to ensure that it is continuously active and effective.

After many tests, we realized that planning a fixed scraper member, insofar as this is fitted to a nozzle said "to floating body "(ie a nozzle in which the pivot axis of the connection sleeve is located behind the axis of rotation of the rear wheels or is at most confused with the latter), and in the extent that said scraper member is located in an area of the nozzle which extends in front of the rear edge of the suction opening, gives excellent results in terms of suction quality and does not require the user to make significant efforts to move the squeegee on the floor, whether it is a carpet or a carpet or hard floor.

Indeed, in a floating body nozzle, the force applied by user simply rolls rear wheels and allow the displacement of the squeegee, without pressing the latter against the ground, it is only under the effect of the depression generated by the suction that the floating body nozzle is pressed against the ground. The fact using a fixed scraper member eliminates the need for provide means for controlling the movement of the scraper member, or even means for automatically urging the scraper member towards its active position or to its inactive position. Whatever the meaning of displacement of the squeegee on the ground, the scraper member occupies the same position and its efficiency is constantly assured.

Providing that the scraper member extends into a region front of the squeegee relative to the rear edge of the suction opening helps to give the nozzle maximum efficiency. Indeed, from apart, the scraper member is far enough away from the rear wheels to that indeed no vertical force is directly exerted on this scraper member when the user exerts a force on the rear wheels to move the nozzle on the ground. In addition, thanks to this available, the squeegee is perfectly stabilized on the ground since it rests, in its rear region, on the rear wheels and, in its front region, on the lower end of the scraper member. The efficiency of suction is everything quite satisfactory insofar as, when the nozzle is pushed, the dust detached from the ground by the scraper member is then vacuumed in the suction opening. We thus obtain a good compromise between the pushing forces to be applied to move the squeegee on the ground and dust removal. To reduce pushing efforts necessary while maintaining the same results in terms dust removal, we choose advantageously to place the axis sleeves pivot closer to the ground than in the squeegees traditional floating bodies, for example by reducing the radius of the wheels back.

According to the invention, the scraper member is arranged in the suction channel and over at least part of the length of the said channel channel, separates the latter into a portion of front channel and a portion of rear channel.

Thanks to this arrangement, the dust repelled towards the front by the scraper member when pushing the squeegee, and the dust pushed back when pulling on the squeegee are perfectly sucked. In addition, the scraper member is "self-cleaning", since the depression created by aspiration is exerted in the suction channel, that is to say in the region in which the scraper member is placed, and cleans this last.

Tests have been carried out in accordance with standard IEC 60312, on the so-called "Wilton carpet" to which this standard refers. These tests have consisted in measuring the suction capacity on this carpet of a vacuum cleaner equipped, first, with a squeegee not comprising a scraper member and, then, of a nozzle of the same type, but with a scraper member disposed in the suction channel according to the above-mentioned arrangement. We found that the efficiency, in terms of dusting the carpet, was higher about 10% with the second nozzle compared to the first.

Advantageously, the nozzle has wall elements which substantially close the rear channel portion on the sides of the sole.

This arrangement increases the depression in the portion rear channel, which further pushes the squeegee to the ground and confines the dust in the rear channel portion, before sucking it in the suction opening, without increasing the efforts too much must exercise the user moving the nozzle on the floor.

The invention will be clearly understood and its advantages will appear better on reading the description which follows, of an embodiment shown by way of nonlimiting example. The description refers to the accompanying drawings in which:
  • FIG. 1 shows, in perspective and in view from below, a nozzle according to the invention,
  • FIG. 2 shows the squeegee of FIG. 1 in section in an anteroposterior plane along line II-II of FIG. 3, and
  • FIG. 3 shows the same nozzle in longitudinal section in the plane III-III of FIG. 2.

The figures show a vacuum cleaner nozzle including a housing 10, susceptible by means of a connection sleeve 12 directed towards the top and back, to be connected to a suction tube (not represented). The squeegee also has a sole 14 located under the housing and provided with a suction opening 16.

In the following, we will consider that the front parts of the various elements which will be described will be those which are furthest from the opening 12A of the sleeve 12 to which the suction tube is connected. Thus, the direction forward (indicated by the arrow F in Figure 2) naturally corresponds to the direction of push of the squeegee in the normal conditions of use of the latter, while the direction towards the rear (indicated by the arrow G) corresponds to the direction in which the nozzle. In addition, we will consider that the longitudinal direction of the squeegee, indicated by the double arrow L in Figure 3, is perpendicular to the anteroposterior direction of this nozzle, indicated by the double arrow A-P in Figure 2. The suction opening 16 is made in the part central of a suction channel 18 formed hollow in the sole. The underside of the sole has first and second wire stripping strips 20, 22 respectively arranged in front and in back of the suction opening 16. As indicated by the double arrow P of Figure 2, the connection sleeve 12 is pivotally mounted by relative to the housing 10. It pivots about a pivot axis which, in the example shown is substantially coincident with the axis of rotation A rear wheels 24 and 26. In general, the pivot axis of the connection sleeve coincides with or is located on the axis of rotation A behind the latter, so that the nozzle is of the "body type floating".

The squeegee also includes a scraper member 28 which projects under the sole 14, the lower end 28A of the scraper member extending a distance H downward beyond parts of the lowest sole when the squeegee rests on the ground. Advantageously, these lowest parts are respectively arranged on the front and rear edges of the suction channel, 18A and 18B respectively. The distance H is advantageously included between 1 and 4mm, preferably around 3mm. The scraper member 28 is fixed and not retractable, so that the plane of rest PR of the squeegee on the ground is defined by the contact zones of the rear wheels 24 and 26 with the ground and by the lower end 28A of the scraper member, also in contact with the ground. As seen in Figure 2, the entire sole is set back from this PR plane, that is to say that it found above the ground and without contact with it when the squeegee rests on the ground. To facilitate visualization in Figure 3, we have slightly raised the front part of the squeegee, the lower end 28A of the scraper member 28 thus being slightly above the plane of rear wheels contact with the ground.

As seen in particular in Figures 1 and 2, the organ scraper 28 extends only in a longitudinal zone of the nozzle which, considered relative to the rear edge 16A of the suction opening, is located at the front of the squeegee.

The scraper member 28 is disposed in the suction channel 18. More specifically, it has two sections 29A and 29B aligned in the direction longitudinal of the squeegee and arranged on either side of the opening suction 16. In the example shown, the scraper member is therefore interrupted in the area of the suction opening but we could also use a continuous scraper member extending across the suction opening. We see in Figures 1 and 2 that, in front and in rear of each of sections 29A and 29B, the suction channel 18 is thus separated into a channel portion before 18C and a channel portion rear 18D. The scraper member 28 (more precisely its sections 29A and 29B) is arranged substantially in the middle of the width of the channel 18 measured in the anteroposterior direction of the squeegee.

More precisely, as can be seen in FIG. 2, these elements of walls extend downwards when the nozzle is placed on the floor substantially to the same level as the front and rear edges 18A and 18B of the suction channel 18. They extend over the entire width of the rear channel portion 18D measured in the anteroposterior direction from the squeegee, substantially to the front face of the scraper member 28.

The scraper member 28 may consist of a brush or "strips" known per se. More specifically, in the example shown, it comprises two sections of such a brush. Given the nature of the hairs used and their density, this brush is rigid enough not to not bend and "butter" the floor when moving the squeegee on the floor.

Alternatively, the scraper member may be formed by a strip of plastic material, also suitably chosen not to bend on itself when moving the squeegee.

If necessary, one can choose to provide the scraper member with slots transverse to create small suction passages for dust, which will be particularly advantageous if, according to a variant not shown, the scraper member is located at the front of the suction channel 18.

The two sections 29A and 29B of the scraper member can be arranged so as to form the branches of a very open V, the tip, interrupted in the region of the suction opening, would facing the rear of the squeegee.

The sole of the vacuum cleaner nozzle according to the invention has simple geometry and, as can be understood in Figure 2, can optionally be molded in one piece with the top wall 30 of the housing (the underside of which delimits the suction opening and the guide for pivoting the part 32 which carries the sleeve 12). Optionally, a simple decoration housing 34 indicated in lines interrupted mixed in Figure 2 can be added to perfect the aesthetics of the squeegee. The axes 24A and 26A of rotation of the wheels can also be made in one piece with the sole, the wheels can be force fitted on these axes.

This possibility of making the sole and the sole in one piece wall 30 is linked to the fact that, the scraper member being fixed, the housing is free of means for retracting this scraper member. For example, the scraper member can be mounted on a simple mount profile snapped or force fitted into an opening corresponding longitudinal that the underside of the sole.

By extending the suction opening, a second hollow suction channel (not shown), located behind the channel 18, the two channels being separated by a longitudinal wall.

It is also possible to have a secondary scraper member 36 shown in broken lines in Figure 2 and located behind the member 28, for example in the region of the groove 38 located towards the back of the sole. To avoid lifting the sole and increasing the pushing forces necessary to move the squeegee on the ground, this the secondary scraper member is preferably endowed with great flexibility and / or is arranged so that its free end recedes compared to the PR plan (set j). The secondary scraper member is by example a very flexible plastic squeegee.
