Claims (12)

  1. A freight car provided with at least one sliding wall (W) associated with a rail (5), on which the sliding wall can be moved on at least two rollers (6) either away from its closed position or into its closed position, a parallelogram linkage system being provided as retraction system located in the vicinity of each roller (6) when said sliding wall (W) is in its closed position, which linkage system comprises two rotatable levers (2, 4) and an interconnecting bridge (3), one of said rotatable levers (2) being firmly attached to a shaft (1) common to all parallelogram linkages and extending through to the end of the freight car, which parallelogram linkage can be rotated from a lower position to a raised position, and a roller support is connected to said parallelogram linkage,
    characterized in that
    in the raised position of the parallelogram linkage the roller support engages a recess in the rail (5) and is then in alignment with the rail so as to make the sliding wall free for sliding movement, whilst in the lowered position the roller support is positioned at a lateral distance from the rail, the parallelogram linkage being maintained in said lowered position substantially by the force of its own weight and the weight of the sliding wall with resultant retention of the sliding wall in its closed position.
  2. A freight car as defined in claim 1, characterized in that the bridge (3) forms the roller support.
  3. A freight car as defined in claim 1 or claim 2, characterized in that each roller (3) exhibits a concave running surface in known manner and the rail (5) has a runway adapted to suit said running surface.
  4. A freight car as defined in any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the parallelogram linkage hits a stop (7) when in its raised position.
  5. A freight car as defined in any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the roller support is provided with a bow (8) which engages above the roller (6) or its journal.
  6. A freight car as defined in any one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that an idler roller (10) is provided in the vicinity of said recess, and a bow (9) is mounted on the sliding wall and can be supported by the idler roller (10).
  7. A freight car as defined in claim 6, characterized in that the bow (9) engages below the rail (5).
  8. A freight car as defined in claim 6 or claim 7, characterized in that the idler roller (10) is mounted on the stop (7).
  9. A freight car as defined in any one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that there is attached to the sliding wall, in known manner, a bow (9) which engages below the rail (5).
  10. A freight car as defined in any one of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that there is provided on the rail (5) a bow which engages above the roller (6) or its journal.
  11. A freight car as defined in any one of claims 1 to 10, characterized in that on the sliding wall there is provided a counterbearing (11) which rests on the rail (5) when the sliding wall is closed.
  12. A freight car as defined in any one of claims 1 to 11, characterized in that the rollers (6) are provided in pairs and that the rollers (6) of any one pair and the recesses associated therewith are spaced at an interval which differs from the spacing of any other pair.
