Definitions

  • the invention relates to a security document, such as a banknote, security, identification card or the like, with a security element, which has at least one machine-testable, magnetic layer and at least one further layer.
  • DE-PS 16 96 245 discloses, for example, a security paper in which a security thread is embedded with a ferromagnetic coating.
  • the magnetic material commonly used has a very dark body color, so that the security thread is recognizable as a dark stripe even when fully embedded in the paper on the paper surface.
  • DE-PS 27 54267 From DE-PS 27 54267 it is also known to provide a security thread with a magnetic coating and another security feature.
  • An important selection criterion for the security features to be combined here is that the features for a counterfeiter should not be readily recognizable and imitable. For this reason, the magnetic layer is combined, for example, with a metal layer or an opaque lacquer which fluoresces under UV light.
  • the measures described in DE-PS 27 54 267 increase the security against forgery only in the event that the document is actually checked by machine. A visual inspection of the authenticity of the document is not or only partially possible by the described security features.
  • a security thread has already been proposed (WO92 / 11142), which enables both a mechanical check of the magnetic properties and a visual authenticity check.
  • the magnetic layer is combined with an opaque metal layer having recesses in the form of characters or patterns, the magnetic layer being disposed below the metal layer as seen by the observer, so that the optical effect of the magnetic material does not occur on the paper surface.
  • the recesses are practically invisible in reflected light in the paper, but contrast strongly in contrast from their opaque environment in transmitted light.
  • the recessed areas of the characters are transparent, i. There must be no magnetic material in the area of the signs. It must therefore be ensured in the production of the security element that the magnetic layer and the visually recognizable characters are generated in register with each other so that they do not overlap.
  • the invention has for its object to propose a security document with a security element having a magnetic coating whose intrinsic color hardly occurs in incident light and which can be provided in a simple manner with additional visually verifiable features.
  • a partially transparent in the visual spectral range cover layer is already sufficient to attenuate the dark appearance of the magnetic material so far that the most unwanted optical effects can be avoided.
  • the partially transparent cover layer additionally makes it possible to provide the security element with visually and / or machine-recognizable information, e.g. in that recesses in the form of characters are provided in the magnetic layer or the magnetic layer itself is formed in the form of visually and / or mechanically recognizable characters or patterns.
  • An exact register-containing arrangement of cover layer and magnetic layer is no longer necessary in this case, since the visually recognizable information can be seen through the partially transparent layer.
  • the security element consists of a magnetic layer and a partially transparent layer which obscures the magnetic layer.
  • the partially transparent layer consists of a thin semitransparent metal layer.
  • a semitransparent metal layer has optical reflection properties, which are very similar to an opaque metal layer, if the layer thickness is not too small.
  • the raster elements can be shaped as desired. Geometric standard shapes, such as points, lines, triangles, etc., come as well as special patterns, numbers, letters, etc.
  • the grid is chosen so that there is sufficient coverage of the magnetic layer, but at the same time also present under the screened layer Information remains recognizable.
  • the raster elements can be produced by means of any printing ink, but preferably a white or light-colored printing ink, or by any coating method, such as vacuum vapor deposition, hot stamping, etc.
  • the magnetic layer can be provided either over the entire surface or only partially, regardless of the type of cover used.
  • the magnetic layer is applied in the form of a coding, in particular a bar code.
  • the magnetic layer may also contain only recesses in the form of visually and / or machine readable characters.
  • further visually and / or machine-identifiable information can be arranged in the magnetic-layer-free regions of the code or in the recesses.
  • the magnetic-layer-free regions can be filled, for example, with a nonmagnetic layer which has the same color as the magnetic material.
  • a nonmagnetic layer which has the same color as the magnetic material.
  • This non-magnetic layer may also have recesses in the form of characters, patterns, etc.
  • the inventive combination of a magnetic layer and a partially permeable cover layer not only makes it possible to provide information to be inspected in the magnetic layer, but also to include the partially permeable cover layer in the design of the security element, which results in a variety of embodiments which, in addition to various specific advantages, provide the common Have the advantage that the security against counterfeiting of the security element or the object provided with this security element is increased.
  • the security element can be designed as a security thread or planchettes, which are at least partially incorporated into a security document.
  • These items can also be a security document.
  • the security element according to the invention can be used very advantageously in the field of product security.
  • the security element may contain further anti-theft elements, such as e.g. a coil.
  • the security element can also be provided on or in a document material, which in turn is applied to product protection for arbitrarily shaped objects.
  • FIG. 1 shows a security document 1 according to the invention.
  • a banknote is shown in which a security thread 2 in the form of a so-called “window security thread” is embedded.
  • This security thread 2 is virtually woven into the paper during papermaking and occurs at regular intervals on the surface of the paper. These areas 3 are shown hatched here.
  • security document is not limited to banknotes. Rather, it can be any value document, such as a check, a share, an identity card or the like.
  • the security element 2 likewise does not necessarily have to be a security thread.
  • the security element 2 can for example also be arranged completely on the surface of the security document 1 as a thin layer sequence or self-supporting label.
  • the shape of each element is also freely selectable.
  • the element 2 can, for example, extend in strip form from one edge of the document 1 to the opposite edge or, alternatively, be executed in the form of an island with any contour contours.
  • the security element is to be provided only as a thin layer sequence on the security document, it makes sense to prepare the layer sequence of the security element separately on a film material and then to transfer it to the document. In this case, the layers on the transfer film must be in reverse order to that which is desired later on the document.
  • Fig. 2 shows a possible embodiment of such a sheet material, wherein the illustrated transfer sheet 20 has the shape of a band.
  • the covering layer 6 is shown in this example as a screened layer with a constant screen ruling.
  • an adhesive layer 9 is provided over the magnetic layer 5, which provides for attachment of the layer structure 21 on the document. This may be, for example, hot melt adhesive or radiation-curable adhesive.
  • the carrier 7 may be advantageous to leave the carrier 7 also on the document as a protective layer. In this case, of course, no separation layer 8 may be provided on the substrate. Rather, additional measures must be taken that the layer structure of the element 1 has a good adhesion to the carrier layer 7.
  • the transfer film can either be provided with the security element layer structure over its full area and can only be applied in the desired areas, e.g. be removed and transferred by targeted activation of the adhesive from the full-surface coating.
  • the carrier material can already be provided in spaced-apart areas with the desired individual elements.
  • security elements consist essentially of a carrier layer and layers provided thereon for the authenticity marking.
  • security elements are usually fastened together with the carrier foil on or in the security document, such as e.g. Security threads or labels.
  • Fig. 3 shows the layer structure of a security element according to the invention in the simplest embodiment.
  • the carrier 4 is provided here over its entire surface with a magnetic layer 5 over which a layer 6 in the form of a grid is provided, wherein the grid elements are made of opaque material.
  • This screened layer 6 must face the viewer on the finished document in order to be able to ensure the effect according to the invention of covering the magnetic layer 5.
  • the security element is used as a security thread, then it may be useful to cover the magnetic material on the opposite side of the grid 6.
  • a further screen layer or a full-surface, preferably white or light print layer can be provided.
  • the white or light layer has the advantage that the thread from the bottom color well adapted to the paper and therefore practically does not appear on the back of the paper on the surface.
  • the use of a second screened layer has the advantage that the thread on the front and back sides looks identical and therefore can be dispensed with a laterally correct introduction into the paper.
  • FIG. 4 shows a security element with the layer sequence already explained with reference to FIG. 3.
  • the magnetic layer 5 is additionally provided with recesses 10 in the form of characters, patterns or the like. If it is apecializingseiament which is embedded in a paper layer, the carrier 4 is advantageously carried out transparent or at least translucent. In this way, the recesses 10 when viewed in transmitted light can be recognized as strongly contrasting characters in the environment formed by the opaque magnetic material 5.
  • the grid elements of the layer 6 in the region of the recesses 10 hardly impair this effect. When viewed in reflected light, however, the grid 6 additionally obscures the recesses 10, so that they practically do not appear.
  • the screened layer 6 is also sufficient to mask the dark appearance of the magnetic layer 5.
  • FIG. 5 shows a further variant of the security element according to the invention, which, as already explained with reference to FIG. 4, consists of a carrier layer 4, a magnetic layer 5 with recesses 10 in the form of visually recognizable information and a screened layer 6.
  • the screen width of the layer 6 was changed.
  • Fig. 5 shows the case that the screen width a in the region of the magnetic material is greater than the screen width b in the region of the recesses 10.
  • the screen width a is smaller than the screen width b, is of course also possible.
  • the recesses 10 in the magnetic layer 5 can be more emphasized or hidden.
  • FIG. 6 shows an embodiment of the security element 2 according to the invention, in which the magnetic layer 5 is present over the entire surface of the carrier 4 and only the screened covering layer 6 contains readable information 12. These are represented by a variation of the screen ruling.
  • Fig. 6 again shows the case that the screen ruling a is greater than the raster width b in the area of the information 12. The reverse case is of course also possible here.
  • This security element has the advantage that the magnetic layer 5 is adequately covered, but at the same time visually and / or mechanically recognizable information is present, which is generated in a simple manner in the same operation with the application of the covering layer 6.
  • FIG. 7 shows an embodiment of the security element according to the invention which, in addition to a magnetic authenticity feature, has an optically variable, visually testable authenticity feature.
  • the security element is shown here in longitudinal section to better illustrate the particular embodiment of the magnetic layer 5 in the form of a coding can.
  • the carrier 4 is provided on one of its surfaces with the magnetic authenticity feature 5, which in the present case is in the form of a magnetic code.
  • the cover layer 6 according to the invention is arranged over the magnetic layer 5, the cover layer 6 according to the invention is arranged.

  • the layer 13 is provided with a reflection layer 14.
  • the individual layers can be configured differently.
  • the carrier 4 In the event that the element is to be tested in transmission, the carrier 4 must be made of a transparent or at least translucent material.
  • the reflection layer 14 must also be an at least partially transparent layer. It may, for example, consist of a transparent lacquer which has a different refractive index to the layer 13 or else of a semitransparent metal layer.
  • the reflection layer 14 is formed as a grid, wherein the grid elements consist of an opaque metal layer.
  • the optically variable information can be observed in reflection and, on the other hand, the magnetic layer 5 applied on the opposite surface of the carrier 4.
  • the magnetic layer 5, not as shown in FIG. 7, is in the form of a coding is present on the support 4, but has recesses 10 in the form of characters, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5.
  • the diffraction structure 13 or the reflection layer 14 serve here as an additional covering layer for the magnetic layer 5, in particular if the security element is embedded as a window security thread in security paper.
  • the diffraction layer 13 faces the viewer with the transmissive reflection layer 14 in the window areas, it will primarily recognize the optically variable effects in incident light. Only in Duichlicht become present in the magnetic layer 5 Recesses 10 visible through the grid gaps.
  • the screened layer 6 arranged above the magnetic layer 5 serves here to make the thread inconspicuous even when viewing the back side of the paper, ie to cover the dark magnetic layer.
  • the reflection layer 14 is also conceivable to form the reflection layer 14 as an opaque metal layer. If the observer in this case faces the covering layer 6, then he can observe the diffraction structure urine in the regions free of magnetic layer and covering layer. If the magnetic layer 5 has, for example, recesses in the form of characters, these characters show the optically variable effect of the layer 13. However, when the element is viewed from the back, the observer only recognizes the optically variable information.
