Abstract

The method involves passing the strip (9) through a guide channel whilst constricting it to form a chord of filter material which is finally enclosed by an envelope strip (24). Filter rods are cut from the chord. Compressed gas, preferably compressed air, fed into the strip during constriction emanates downstream in an air outlet zone. A further gas flow, preferably air is blown into the filter strip upstream of the outlet zone and the air emanates through channels in another downstream outlet zone. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for carrying out the method.

FIG. 1 shows an arrangement of the applicant for the preparation of filter tow, which preferably consists of cellulose acetate, which is known under the name AF in the tobacco processing industry.
From a bale 1 of superimposed strips of filter tow of cellulose acetate is drawn from a driven roller pair 2, for example consisting of grooved roller and gegenwirkender rubber roller, a strip 3, dissolved and spread by an air nozzle 4, passed over a roller 6 and another air nozzle. 7 further spread and relaxed. A dragged, ie non-driven brake roller pair 8 keeps the formed web 9 of expanded threads of filter tow something back. Another drive roller pair 11, z. B. also consisting of grooved roller and pressed against rubber roller, is driven slightly faster than the pair of rollers 2, so that the threads of the spread between the pairs of rollers 2 and 11 web 9 is stretched out in a plane largely isolated densely spaced threads stretched. Subordinate to the pair of rollers 11 is a Sprinkler 12, in the droplets of liquid plasticizer 13, z. As triazetin, sprayed from below by means of rotating brush 14 on the threads of the run in a plane path 9 of Towmaterial. After deflection by another pair of driven rollers 16, the web 9 passes reducing its width via a pressurized air nozzle 17 with a compressed air connection 17a to an inlet funnel 18 of a subsequent filter stranding machine KDF, not shown. As known in the tobacco processing industry type KDF2 or KDF3 the applicant. The arrows 19 indicate the direction of movement of the web 9.
To the hopper 18, a so-called format device 20 connects, which has a guide channel 21 for the filter tow (hereinafter referred to as "finger") with decreasing cross section, so that the filter tow is continuously gathered in its promotion by cross-sectional constriction until it is about the Cross section of a filter rod required in the tobacco processing industry for the production of filter cigarettes. The filter tow is pulled through the format device 20 by a so-called format strip 22, which is fed together with a wrapping strip 24 (eg paper strip) via a deflection roller 23. In the format device, the paper strip 24 glued to an edge is placed around the filter tow line and then a filter strand is formed in a known manner, not shown, from which the individual filter rods are cut off. Of the entire format device only the inlet part with the finger 21 is shown. The other parts of a format device such as adhesive chamber and the like. Are not shown, since they are not affected by the invention.

The FIGS. 2 to 4 show a conveyor channel 21, also called "finger" in practice, which narrows in the direction of the arrow 19, that is, whose cross-section decreases continuously. Thus, the filter tow is reduced in its cross section also, to about the thickness of the filter strand. The format tape 22 is in FIG. 2 only shown schematically as a bottom band, although in reality it is arched on both sides of the finger 21 and thereby partially obscure the finger. This part of the format tape is therefore omitted.
At a first air inlet 26 compressed air is supplied with, for example, 3 bar, which flows through in the wall 27 in three rows attached slot-like channels 28 in the interior of the finger 21 and the moving through the filter tow. Its fibers are thereby swirled, which desirably increases the draw resistance of filter rods made therefrom. The angle at which the air flows out of the wall 27 can be between 10 ° and 30 °, relative to the longitudinal axis of the finger, for example 20 °, so that the filter material receives a delivery component through the air. The injected air can escape from the finger 21 through a sieve-like air outlet zone 29. The outlet channels 31 in the outlet zone are the same size and have approximately circular shape in the embodiment with a diameter of about 0.5 to 1.5 mm, z. B. of about 1 mm. The outlet channels may also have other shapes and dimensions. Downstream of the air exit zone 29 is another air inlet 32 through which pressurized air of, for example, 2 bar is supplied, which flows through slit-like channels 33 mounted in the wall 27 in three rows into the interior of the finger 21 and the filter tow guided therein. Its fibers are re-entangled, which has a positive effect on the homogeneity of the filter rods produced. The angle at which the air flows out of the wall 27 may also again be about 10 ° to 30 °, based on the finger longitudinal axis, for example, about 20 °. The injected further air can escape from the finger 21 through a further downstream arranged sieve-like air outlet zone 34. The outlet channels 36 may have the same shape and dimensions as the outlet channels 31. The relatively small dimensions of the outlet channels are advantageous because virtually no fibers from the filter tow pass to the outside. The pressure of the supplied air may be higher or lower than the specified values.

FIG. 5 shows the distribution of filter tow in an opened filter rod used in a device according to the EP-B1-0269915 had been made. It can be seen that the distribution is non-uniform and has two bulbous thickenings 41, 42, between which there is a zone 43 with less material.

FIG. 6 shows the distribution of filter tow material in an opened filter rod made according to the invention. One recognizes a very homogeneous distribution of the filter tow 44 over virtually the entire surface, which is responsible for a better quality of the filter rod.
