    Claims (3)

    1. Device for the support and handling of an object to be upholstered, such as a settee frame, which has at least two parallel cleats (3, 4), during its upholstery process, comprising
      a vertical upright (5) having a base (6) for fixing it to the ground (7), said upright being adjustable in height,
      a pair of parallel arms (10, 11) mounted so as to pivot about a horizontal axis (8) at the upper end of the upright (5),
      a cradle (13) mounted so as to pivot, about an axis (12) parallel to the axis of pivoting (8) of the arms (10, 11), at the free end of said arms,
      adjustable gripping means (25, 28) capable of grabbing the two cleats of the object to be upholstered, provided on said cradle (13), and
      means for controlling the rotation of the arms (10, 11) the rotation of the cradle (13) about their axes of pivoting (8, 12), and for adjusting the height of the vertical upright (5), the adjustable gripping means comprising:
      a first set of fixed clamps (25) mounted on the cradle (13) and aligned in a direction parallel to the axes of pivoting (8, 12), said fixed clamps (25) being capable of co-operating with one (3) of said cleats, and
      a second set of mobile clamps (28), carried by the ends of rods (20, 21) of synchronised jacks, said jacks having cylinders mounted on the cradle (13) and said mobile clamps (28) being capable of co-operating with the other cleat (4),
      said fixed clamps (25) and said mobile clamps (28) each having two jaws (29, 30) substantially parallel to each other and extending perpendicular to a wall forming a cleat stop, the jaws of the fixed clamps (25) and the jaws of the mobile clamps (28) extending respectively in substantially opposite directions.
    2. Device according to Claim 1, characterised by the fact that the spacing between the two jaws (29, 30) of the clamps (25, 28) is adjustable.
    3. Device according to Claim 2, characterised by the fact that each clamp (25, 28) has a bar (23, 24, 26, 27), one face of which constitutes the cleat stop, a first tongue (29) fixed to the bar and forming a fixed jaw, a glider (31) mounted so as to be mobile over said bar and having a second tongue (30) forming the mobile jaw, and means (32) for locking and releasing the glider on the bar.
