Definitions
- the invention relates to devices for applying color or toner to a Printing cylinder to develop an image on.
- rollers for printing apparatus are state of the art known. These rollers are often served with an electrostatic charge to paint in Transfer form of toner from a toner reservoir to a printing cylinder. The toner on the applicator roller is then removed from one on the Pressure cylinder located latent electrostatic image attracted, with a Print image developed on the printing cylinder.
- US 5,315,061, Suzuki et al shows a development roller with a conductive surface that has dielectric body. Loaded toner comes off the roller attracted by micro-fields between the dielectric body and the conductive Surface of the roller arise. The toner is then applied to a print ribbon that is latent developing image carries, transferred. Using a squeegee, the thickness of the paint on the Development roller to be restricted.
- the development rollers of the prior art device limit the Speed of development and the quality of the developed images because of the quality of the developed image, the area and the repeatability of its different Tolerances, the insensitivity to surrounding conditions during the Development and the shortness of time or speed with which the development can take place, in large part, from the nature of the development or Ink roller and their interaction with the pressure body depends.
- US 3,689,933 shows a development station that has a larger one on a printing cylinder Area occupies than on a developing roller. However, there are the specific ones No criteria regarding the reliability and quality of the development station described.
- EP 0 141 663 shows an application roller which has a printing surface on a single tangential Contacted a printing cylinder. It is also disclosed that the applicator roll is through an endless belt can be replaced, although this belt probably also the would contact printing cylinders in just one place.
- Another object of the invention is to transfer color or toner onto the Pressure body in exactly the required amount.
- the present invention thus provides a device for the development of color on the outer surface of a printing body, which has the features of claim 1.
- Part of the belt path of an endless belt is in Agreement with the surface of a pressure body, e.g. B. a pressure cylinder, designed.
- Another part of the tape path allows the tape to come into contact with a color reserve so that ink is picked up from the tape and transferred to the impression cylinder.
- a geometric adjustment device which is preferably actuated with negative pressure, is provided within the band, so that the band adapts to the surface of the pressure body.
- the belt surface is preferably arranged in parallel with a pattern of pairs Electrodes equipped, each pair of electrodes under tension with opposite sign is held.
- the E fields which differ from one Extending the electrode to the other has the ability to attract paint or toner particles and build up a supply of paint on the belt surface, either by attraction charged particles or - in the case of uncharged color - by dipole forces, which the Put color on the fields.
- the ribbon can also be used for other designs Attract particles, including a uniformly charged surface or a charged surface with dielectric members arranged thereon.
- the final ink thickness can be limited or metered by a squeegee is next to the ribbon path between the inking roller and the print body.
- the belt has the ability to build up particle deposits of several hundred thickness Angstrom attract and the doctor blade preferably scrapes the top layer, so that a latent electrostatic image develops on the impression cylinder.
- the belt surface and the pressure body surface move with approximately that same speed.
- a drive mechanism is also provided that the tape with an independent of the speed of the pressure body Speed can be moved.
- the tape can then move a little faster or be moved slower than the printing surface. This relative movement between the Tape and the printing surface can favor image development and fog as well as counteract the accumulation of color particles.
- the paint application device described here is preferably used for the application of fixed colloidal matrix color (CMI) is used. However, due to their The paint application device can also be used for toner powder, Toner slurry or liquid toner can be used.
- CMI fixed colloidal matrix color
- Fig. 1 shows a paint application device 10 with a color reserve or 12, from which Color on an endless belt 14 of the ink application device 10 is supplied.
- Volume 14 is at a distance from an impression cylinder 50 with an outer surface 52, so that between the band 14 and over a certain curvature of the Printing cylinder outer surface 52, a gap 40 is formed.
- the impression cylinder 50 carries electrostatic charges that represent a latent image on its outer surface.
- the e.g. latent image by means of one in US Patent No. 5,325,120 Print head generated on the outer surface of the printing cylinder 50.
- the path of the belt 14 runs around the outer surface 52 of the impression cylinder 50 preferably at a uniform distance from the impression cylinder 50
- Use of a geometric adjustment element 60 The adjustment element 60 acts on the inner surface of the belt 14 and changes the belt path in adaptation the contour of the outer surface 52 of the printing cylinder 50.
- the adaptation element 60 acts preferably by means of vacuum or suction on the inside of the belt 14 in order to change the path of the tape 14. However, electrostatic or magnetic forces are applied.
- the adapter 60 preferably has a concave surface, as shown in Fig. 1, along which the vacuum is even acts when the path of the belt 14 is to be changed.
- the belt 14 is rotatably supported by the cylinder 16 and the cylinder 18; it can also be arranged further cylinders for carrying the band 14 to z. B. to form a triangular configuration of the belt 14.
- the cylinder 16 is a Drive cylinder and is driven by a belt drive mechanism 20, such as shown schematically in Fig. 1. However, it can be any or more than one cylinder are driven.
- the belt drive mechanism 20 can also be the same Mechanism that drives the pressure body.
- the belt drive mechanism 20 can move the belt 14 at a speed that is independent of the Speed of the impression cylinder 50 is so that the belt 14 is slightly faster or slower than the printing cylinder outer surface 52 or with the same Speed like this moves.
- doctor blade 70 On the outside of the belt 14 there is a doctor blade 70 which is actuated to the thickness of the paint attracted to the ink reservoir 12 by the tape 14 restrict before the tape 14 enters the development nip 40.
- Fig. 2 shows the outer surface of the belt 14 with a set of negatively charged Electrode fingers 90 and a set of positively charged electrode fingers 92, the Electrode fingers 90 and 92 are normally parallel to one another and at a distance are arranged from each other.
- the outer surface of the tape in which the wires embedded or on which these are attached consists of a suitable elastic and insulating material, e.g. B. from "Kaptel" polyester or "Hydrel”.
- This Electrode fingers 90, 92 can range from a DC power source to the desired one Voltage can be charged.
- an electrostatic adjustment element is used for the tape, that is The back of the band is made of metal.
- the metal layer therefore enables that electrostatic attraction.
- the ratios of the electric fields in the gap 40 can be changed.
- the back of the belt 14 with a Power source connected, and the impression cylinder can be a conductive layer to highlight the latent image fields and the lines of these image fields to show above the development gap.
- the forces in the Development gap 40 which hold the color particles on the endless application belt 14, increasingly weaker in the direction of the pressure cylinder outer surface 52. And that one latent image on the outer surface 52 outgoing forces of the electrostatic fields become weaker in the direction of the band 14. These forces determine the amount of Particle deposition, d. H. the thickness of the particle layer because the holding force is either in Direction of the tape or towards the latent image increases.
- the color particles are either by a two-pole force on the Band 14 held, this caft always with increasing thickness of the color layer weakens, or the color particles are electrostatically charged and are from the latent image is attracted until charge neutralization is achieved.
- Ink application tape preferably for approx. 30 - 50 milliseconds along the writing surface move, although depending on the given factors, such as type of ink, Print speed and required print quality longer or shorter Development times may be desirable.
- the ink application device can be used for all types of printing ink, including the CMI color, as well as for charged particles, mud toner and thin films become.
- the electrode fingers or the tape with an AC voltage instead of a DC voltage acted upon the direction of the E-field between the electrode fingers continuously is reversed. That is why the particles move in microscopic motion on the Band held, contacting the writing surface as a loose unit, from which individual due to slightly stronger electrostatic attraction forces Particles can be easily removed.
- the direction of movement of the belt 14 can also be determined by a mechanical device, e.g. B. can be changed by a changeable geometry roller.
- a suction device or brush is used. With the suction device can suck the particles back into the color reservoir to be led back.
