Definitions
- the present invention relates to a two-stroke V-engine with at least one unit consisting of two cylinders, with two pistons, each arranged on a connecting rod, which act on a common crankshaft.
- the present application relates in particular to an engine for racing motorcycles. a. good acceleration and top speed are important.
- two-stroke engines in V-arrangement have prevailed, since in this case the carburetor can be arranged directly in front of the engine and the exhaust pipe directly behind the engine, and in particular a narrow design is achieved, which has advantages when cornering, among other things.
- a multi-cylinder two-stroke engine with cylinders arranged in a V-shape is known from DE-C-672 974, which mentions that two cylinders are flushed out by a single crank chamber, but the two cylinders are connected with a pin and offset.
- the difficulties for the crank chamber resulting from this arrangement are solved by means of an additional, double-acting compensating piston.
- each pair of cylinders has a common crank chamber, but the cylinders are offset by 180 ° to one another, so they are not of the V type.
- a two-cylinder unit consists of two separate individual cylinders, each with a crankcase space, the pistons being on the common crankshaft are arranged in such a way that a time-shifted movement occurs, as can be seen in particular from FIG. 1.
- FIGS 1 and 2 show schematically a two-stroke V-engine 1 according to the prior art with the two pistons 2 and 3, which are attached to a connecting rod 4 and 5, one of the two inlets 6 and the two outlets 7 and 8.
- a crankcase-flushed engine the fuel-air mixture being compressed in the crankcase and then entering cylinders 9 and 10, respectively.
- FIG. 2 also shows the common crankshaft 11 as well as the crank arm pairs 12 and 13 and the power output 14. It can also be seen from FIG. 2 that the two crankcase spaces 16 and 17 are separated from one another and sealed on the crankshaft via shaft seals 15. In this construction, three main crankshaft bearings 24 are necessary. The usual piston rings 18 and the spark plugs 19 can also be seen. In addition, the two cylinder housings 20 and 21 and the crankcase housing 22 and a crank pin 23 can be seen in FIG.
- FIGS. 3 and 4 show an exemplary embodiment of a racing engine according to the invention with a two-cylinder unit.
- the engine 30 with the two cylinder housings 31 and 32 and the crankcase housing 33 can be seen.
- the pistons 34 and 35 which run in the cylinders 36 and 37 and are arranged on the connecting rods 38 and 39, are located in the cylinder housings.
- the two connecting rods are connected to the common crankshaft 48 via the elements known per se, such as crank pin 49 and cranking.
- this two-cylinder engine unit has a common crankcase space 40. This means that there is only one common inlet 41 and the two outlets 42 and 43, and v. a. that there is no separation in the crankcase space and there are only three crank webs 44.
- the middle seal and the middle main bearing are omitted and there are only a total of two shaft seals 45 and two crankshaft main bearings 50.
- the output 51 can also be seen.
- the two pistons are arranged on the crankshaft in such a way that they run in the same direction, ie that both pistons are at the same time are in the top dead center position, as shown in FIG. 3, or at the same time in the bottom dead center position.
- Such a piston arrangement results in maximum pre-compression, but pistons arranged offset can also be used in this motor arrangement.
- the pistons with the piston rings 46 can be worked in the same way as the previously known pistons. In Figure 3, the spark plugs 47 are also indicated.
- the present exemplary embodiment is a two-cylinder two-stroke V-engine, but the principle disclosed above can of course also be adopted, with adaptations, for an engine with more than one two-cylinder unit, in particular for a four-cylinder engine.
Abstract
