Definitions
- the present invention relates to a transfer paper and a method for transferring photocopies to textiles, such as in particular T-shirts.
- Such transfer papers carry a pressure-absorbing plastic layer which is transferred hot to the textile, the pressure being ironed onto the textile and, if appropriate, the paper being removed after a certain cooling time, after which plastic and pressure remain on the fabric. Since the photocopy is a positive print, a negative impression is created on the textile. If you want a positive image on the tissue, a negative impression must be made before transfer, e.g. in EP-05 22 898 A1 and DE-42 10 976 A1.
- the object of the present invention is therefore to create a transfer paper which can be used to produce positive prints directly and which furthermore have a plastic coating which ensures a higher brilliance of the image and into which a white pigment can be incorporated, in particular for printing on black textiles .
- the only solvent water used in the production of the coating should be able to be used, as well as a washability up to over 90 ° C. and also high color fastness with repeated washing. Ultimately, ironing after washing should be dispensed with.
- a transfer paper which has at least as a plastic coating: a polyurethane which can be crosslinked under the action of temperature through a methanol-etherified melamine-formaldehyde resin, in a mixture with an acrylic acid ester / acrylic acid copolymer, the latter being a thickener.
- the advantage of such a coating is that the coating (after the photocopy has been produced on it) can be removed from the paper as a film and placed positively on the textile base, in order to then iron it on and connect it to the textile fibers. It is also essential that a white pigment can be incorporated into the mixture (TiO2), so that the previously required white coating of dark (black) textiles is no longer necessary and the print can be transferred immediately with a single film.
- a mixture in the following weight ratios is particularly suitable for producing the coating: 2.5-10 parts of melamine formaldehyde resin as a 70% aqueous solution, 200-300 parts of polyurethane as a 40% aqueous dispersion and 7-36 parts of thickener in a 25% aqueous dispersion, the latter values depending on the desired application method on the paper straighten, and for the screen printing application process for finer stencils 7 and for coarser stencils 36 parts by weight are to be used. The request can of course also be made by doctoring.
- auxiliaries such as paraffin and / or defoamers and / or wetting agents and / or leveling agents to the mixture.
- the paraffin component serves to make it easier to remove the film from the paper and at the same time makes the surface tack-free.
- Particularly suitable as a polyurethane component are ionic or nonionic polyether or polyester polyurethanes.
- Sodium salt of sulfosuccinic acid is preferably used as the wetting agent and methoxymethylated melamine as the leveling agent together with nonionic surfactants in a suitable mixing ratio.
- the coating can preferably be produced from a mixture of 2.5-10 parts by weight of methanol-etherified melamine-formaldehyde resin (dissolved in water), 0-5 parts by weight of an aqueous, anionic paraffin emulsion, 0-100 parts by weight of titanium dioxide pigment, 0-1 parts by weight of defoamer (based on mineral oil ), 200-300 parts by weight of an aqueous dispersion of anionic polyester-polyurethane, 0-0.5 parts by weight of sodium sulfosuccinate, 0.5-2 parts by weight of leveling agent and 7-36 parts by weight of a 25% aqueous dispersion of acrylic acid ester-acrylic acid copolymer, the components in 10-20 parts by weight of water are mixed and stirred to a flowable mass.
- the titanium oxide pigment component may also be missing.
- aqueous acrylic acid-N-butyl ester-styrene copolymer dispersion can be added to the mixture.
- Textiles printed in accordance with the invention have the essential advantage that washing does not fade the image and thus completely eliminates the need for ironing to increase the color brilliance.
- the paper according to the invention can be used with particular advantage in the case of dark (black) fabrics.
- a white colored plastisol layer had to be applied to the fabric for such purposes, e.g. pressed onto paper by ironing. This had to have approximately the contour of the image, which was then cut to size and applied to the white coating.
- the edges become blurred, the image has to be cut mirror-inverted, the contour is based on simple outlines such as Rectangles limited. If instead a transparent printed film is ironed against an opaque second film in order to then apply the composite to the textile, the difficulty is that the image has to be viewed through the backing paper for cutting, which does not allow exact results.
- the procedure can now be much simpler.
- the image can be easily cut out on and with the paper.
- the polyurethane layer is then crosslinked under pressure and temperature, the temperature preferably being left to act on the back of the fabric, i.e. the fabric is ironed "left". Obviously, this eliminates a significant difficulty of all previously known printing processes, i.e. the print can be applied directly to the textile.
- the paper on which the print was initially placed can be easily selected on the side carrying the toner, ie placed on the outside, or a correspondingly larger paper can be selected for cutting.
- the paper can also be provided with a separating layer made of wax or silicone in a manner known per se.
- Transfer paper for transferring colored xerocopy prints to textile substrates consisting of a backing paper and a coating thereon, the coating containing methanol-etherified melamine-formaldehyde resin as a temperature-activable crosslinking component, at least one anionic polyester-polyurethane and acrylic acid ester-acrylic acid copolymer as a thickener.
- the substances are mixed in the 20 parts of water and homogenized, applied to a paper (e.g. doctor blade, screen printing) and allowed to set.
- a paper e.g. doctor blade, screen printing
- the result is a printable film which can be completely peeled off from paper and which can be ironed onto a textile at elevated temperatures.
- the products mentioned are commercial products and are used in their distributed form.
