Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for dispensing a liquid or pulverulent product comprising, on the one hand, a container for the product, provided with a neck and, on the other hand, a cap for closing the neck of the container, this cap being fitted with an applicator member plunging into the container when the cap is in the closed position.
  • the applicator member is impregnated when the container is closed, for example by shaking or inverting the container so as to promote contact between the applicator member and the product.
  • the cap is then removed from the container to allow the applicator member impregnated with product to be used, and to apply this product at the desired location.
  • the container neck is opened and not only is the product exposed to the atmosphere, but the product may be spilled if, due to an unfortunate gesture, the container is overturned or comes to fall.
  • the object of the invention is, above all, to provide a device for dispensing a liquid or pulverulent product of the kind defined above which, while allowing the applicator member to be impregnated and reloaded correctly with product when the neck of the container is closed by the cap practically eliminates any risk of accidentally spilling the product when the cap is removed from the neck of the container.
  • a device for dispensing a liquid or pulverulent product of the kind defined above is characterized in that the neck of the container is provided with a pocket of deformable elastic material in which is housed the applicator member when the cap is fixed to the neck of the container, this pocket being provided with at least one slot which is substantially closed at rest but capable of opening when the wall of the pocket is subjected to a thrust force due to the applicator member when the cap is in normal closed position.
  • the pushing force exerted by the applicator member on the wall of the pocket, in the closed position of the cap may include a component orthogonal to the axis of the neck of the container, the direction of the slot or slots provided in the wall of the pouch having a component located in the same plane as the axis of the pouch, the applicator member having transverse dimensions such that when the container is closed with the cap, the applicator member causes lateral swelling of the wall of the pocket and an opening of the slot (s).
  • the pocket may have a frustoconical shape, and the slot (s) may be oriented along generatrices of the frustoconical surface.
  • the pushing force of the applicator member on the wall of the pocket, in the closed position of the cap may include a component oriented along the axis of the neck of the container, while the slot or slots have a component in a direction orthogonal to the axis of the pocket, the assembly being such that the applicator member in the closed position of the stopper, abuts against the bottom of the pocket to create the above pushing force and cause the opening of the slot (s).
  • the slots in the pocket can have a V shape, the V being substantially symmetrical with respect to a plane passing through the axis of the pocket.
  • the point is advantageously turned towards the outlet of the container.
  • the slots have a curved arc shape whose mean direction is orthogonal to the axis of the pocket.
  • the wall of the pocket may have an area of reduced thickness, the slot or slots being provided in this area, in a plane substantially orhogonal to the axis.
  • the zone of reduced thickness of the pocket can form a groove constituting a reserve of product, the slots being provided in the bottom of this groove.
  • the pocket may have a thermowell shape, essentially cylindrical with a rounded inside end.
  • the pouch and the applicator member may have a frustoconical-planar, or planar shape that is tapered like a pacifier.
  • Figure 1 of these drawings is a schematic vertical sectional view, with parts outside, of a device according to the invention, the container being open and the cap being spaced from the neck.
  • Figure 2 is a detail of the device of Figure 1 showing the bag with the open slots under the thrust of the applicator member while the cap is in the closed position.
  • Figure 3 illustrates an alternative embodiment of the pocket and the slots, in the closed position.
  • Figure 4 illustrates the pocket of Figure 3 subjected to the action of the applicator member, the slots being open.
  • FIG. 5 illustrates another variant of the pocket and the slots, in the closed position.
  • Figure 7 shows, in section, another alternative embodiment of the pocket comprising a peripheral groove with thinned wall at the bottom of the groove, the slots being closed.
  • Figure 8 shows, in section, the pocket of Figure 7, open slots.
  • Figure 9 is a vertical axial section of an alternative embodiment of a device according to the invention.
  • FIG. 10 shows, in axial vertical section, a pocket according to the invention, the end wall of which is thinned.
  • FIG. 11 illustrates in axial vertical section with parts on the outside, another alternative embodiment of the device in the open position, the slot of the pocket being closed.
  • Figure 12 illustrates the pocket of Figure 11 with the slot open.
  • a device D for dispensing a liquid or powdery product P comprises a container 1 for the product this container can be constituted by a bottle, in particular made of glass , and it is provided with a neck 2 or neck of relatively large diameter, generally provided with an external thread 3.
  • the plug 4 comprises, in particular, a transverse wall 6 which is applied in leaktight manner against the end of the neck 2.
  • the plug 4 is fitted with an applicator member 7 plunging into the container, essentially at the neck 2, when the plug is in the closed position as illustrated in FIG. 2.
  • the applicator member 7 comprises a pad 8 carried at the lower end of a rod 9 integral with the plug 4 and coaxial with the latter.
  • the rod 9, in the example considered, is integral with the transverse wall 6 and is coaxial with the neck 2 when the plug is in the closed position as illustrated in FIG. 2.
  • the pad 8 can be made of elastomeric material, flocked plastic, felt, foam or any other equivalent material which can be impregnated with product P and suitable for its application.
  • the neck 2 of the container is provided with a pocket 10 of deformable elastic material in which is housed the applicator member 7 when the cap 4 is fixed on the neck 2 of the container.
  • the pocket 10 comprises, at its upper end, a collar 11 projecting radially outwards, forming a rim which comes to bear axially against the end of the neck 2. This collar 11 can constitute a seal.
  • the pocket 10 is provided with at least one slot 12 closed at rest, that is to say when the plug 4 is removed. In the example of Figures 1 and 2, several slots 12 are provided, regularly spaced around the axis of the pocket 10. The slots 12 are suitable for opening when the wall of the pocket 10 is subjected to a thrust force due to the applicator member 7, when the plug 4 is in the normal closed position, as illustrated in FIG. 2.
  • the pocket 10 comprises a cylindrical upper part 14 engaged tightly in the upper part of the neck 2 and a lower part 15 which, at rest (FIG. 1), has a frustoconical shape whose small base is formed by the bottom 13 of the pocket.
  • the slots 12 are provided in this part 15 and are oriented along the generatrices of the frustoconical surface. The slots 12 are therefore located in planes passing through the axis of the pocket 10.
  • the pushing force exerted by the applicator member 7, more precisely by the pad 8, on the wall of the pocket 10 in the closed position of the plug 4 comprises a component orthogonal to the axis AA of the neck 2 of the container; the applicator member at its buffer 8 has transverse dimensions such that when the container 1 is closed using the stopper 4, this applicator member 7 causes lateral swelling of the wall of the pocket 10 at the level of the part 15 and an opening of the slots 12 as illustrated in FIG. 2.
  • the pad 8 can have a substantially spherical shape and the diameter of this pad can be of the order of the inside diameter of the large base of the frustoconical part 15 of such so that when the pad 8 is pressed into the frustoconical part 15, in the closed position, it causes it to swell.
  • the length of the rod 9 is chosen so that the pad 8 remains slightly recessed or is just in contact with the internal surface of the bottom wall 13 of the pocket. The latter is practically not subjected to a stress in a direction parallel to the axis A-A.
  • FIGS. 3 and 4 illustrate an alternative embodiment in which the elements identical or playing roles analogous to elements already described in connection with FIGS. 1 and 2 are designated by numerical references whose numbers of the units and tens are identical to those of FIGS. 1 and 2, but which are preceded by the number 1 of the hundreds. The same will be done for the variants of the following figures, with progressive increase in the number of hundreds.
  • the slots 112 have a V shape, the point of which faces the outlet of the container, that is to say upwards for the normal position of this container 101.
  • the V is substantially symmetrical with respect to a plane passing through the axis of the neck 102.
  • the pocket 110 has, as in the case of FIGS. 1 and 2, a lower part 115 of frustoconical shape closed in the lower part at its small base by a bottom 113.
  • the slots 112 are not entirely located in a plane passing through the axis AA and therefore have a component in a direction orthogonal to the axis of the pocket 110 and to the axis AA. It should be noted that the slots 112 also have a component along the direction of the axis AA.
  • the length of the rod 109 is such that in the closed position of the plug 104, as illustrated in FIG. 4, the applicator member 8 abuts against the bottom 115 and exerts a stress or a thrust force having essentially a component oriented along the axis AA of the container neck. This constraint, produced when the container is closed, generates the opening of the slots 112 which interlock as illustrated in FIG. 4.
  • transverse dimensions of the applicator member 08 may be sufficient to cause lateral swelling of the wall of the pocket at the level of the part 115, which also contributes to the opening and opening of the slots 112.
  • FIGS 5 and 6 illustrate another alternative embodiment.
  • the slots 212 have a curved arc shape, for example an arc of a circle, the convexity of which faces the outlet orifice of the neck.
  • the mean direction of the curve of the slits 212 is orthogonal to the axis of the pocket 210.
  • the bottom of this pocket 210 is substantially hemispherical, unlike the previous examples where the bottom was frustoconical.
  • the applicator member 208 exerts an axial thrust against the bottom of the pocket 210 which causes the slots 212 to open; it is then possible to impregnate the applicator member 208 with product P by agitating or inverting the container 201.
  • Figures 7 and 8 illustrate an alternative embodiment in which the bag 310 has a generally cylindrical shape with a substantially hemispherical lower part 315.
  • the wall of the pocket has an area of reduced thickness 16 defined by a groove 17 located substantially at the junction of the lower part 315 and the cylindrical part 314.
  • the mean plane of the groove 17 is orthogonal to the axis of the pocket coincides with the axis AA of the neck 2.
  • the slots 312 regularly angularly spaced are located in the bottom of the groove 17 also in a plane orthogonal to the axis of the pocket.
  • the pushing force exerted by the applicator member 307 is essentially oriented along the axis AA of the neck of the container, the member applicator 307, as illustrated in FIG. 8, exerting a pressure downwards against the bottom of the bag 310, when the plug 304 is in the position of closing.
  • the slots 312 may be two in number, diametrically opposite, each slot extending over approximately 45.
  • FIG. 9 illustrates an alternative embodiment in which the slots 412 are located at the bottom of a groove 417 as in the case of FIGS. 7 and 8.
  • the container 401 is constituted by a sort of bowl in the form of a spherical zone.
  • the cover 404 constitutes a spherical cap which, in the closed position, completes the sphere of the container 401.
  • the neck 402 has a reduced axial extent and the pocket 410 extends inside the container 401 beyond the neck 402. L the applicator member 407, in the closed position of the plug 404, exerts an axial thrust against the bottom 413 of the pocket 410 so as to cause the slots 412 to open.
  • FIG. 10 illustrates an alternative embodiment in which the wall of the pocket 510 has an area of reduced thickness 516 constituting the hemispherical bottom of this pocket, the upper part 514 of which is cylindrical.
  • the slots 512 are provided in this part 516 of smaller thickness, in the vicinity of the junction with the cylindrical part 514 of greater thickness.
  • the slots 512 are located in a plane orthogonal to the axis AA, they are closed at rest and open under the effect of an axial thrust against the bottom 515 of the pocket 510, thrust exerted by the applicator member when the plug (not shown) is placed in its closed position.
  • edges 512a of the slots are bevelled so as to be spread between them, from the outside of the pocket, towards the inside.
  • the product clamped between the edges of the slots flows towards the inside of the pocket, where the applicator is located, due to the slope of the edges 512a.
  • FIGS. 11 and 12 illustrate an alternative embodiment according to which the pocket 610, of constant thickness, in the form of thimble, has an upper cylindrical part 614 connecting to a hemispherical bottom 615.
  • the slots 612 are provided in the junction zone between the cylindrical part 614 and the bottom 615.
  • the slots 612 have a slightly curved shape, with their concavity turned towards the outlet orifice of the neck 602.
  • the mean line of the slots 612 is substantially orthogonal to the axis AA.
  • the slots 612 are closed at rest and, under the effect of a substantially axial thrust exerted by the applicator 607 when the cap is closed, as illustrated in FIG. 12, the slots 612 open by opening up and allow thus the impregnation of the applicator with the product P.
  • the applicator and the bag may have a frustoconical-flat shape, that is to say a frustoconical shape with a flattened straight section, for example with an oval section with a high ratio between the large axis and minor axis of the section.
  • the applicator can also have a flat, tapered shape like a pacifier, the width of which decreases from the support rod towards the point.
  • the inlet of the pocket can be cylindrical, and the lower part of the pocket can have a flattened cross section, in particular oval.
