Description

The present invention relates to a luminaire comprising an envelope which contains at least one member necessary for the electrical supply of at least one lighting lamp and which is provided with an opening for the exit of light, and a closing grid. which, in the position of use in front of said opening, must be placed outside the envelope.
Such a luminaire, provided for example for tubular lamps, is in particular intended to be installed in a suspended ceiling with visible irons.

A luminaire corresponding to the above preamble is known from document DE-GM-73 19557. The luminaire described in this document comprises a reflector which occupies most of the interior volume of the envelope, and the closing grid, when it has a certain thickness, must necessarily be placed outside.
Therefore, such fixtures are relatively bulky which is expensive from the point of view of storage and packaging.
In addition, the installation of such luminaires embedded in suspended ceilings, due to the height of the envelope, generally requires relatively large technical gaps, of the order of 250 to 300 mm. To facilitate installation in technical voids of limited height, less than 150 mm, it has been imagined to use flexible luminaires. However, the lack of rigidity and robustness harms the image of such lighting fixtures and, moreover, makes necessary reinforced and expensive packaging.

The invention provides a luminaire which allows savings on transport and on storage volumes, thanks to a lower packaged volume than in the prior art.
This is obtained from the fact that a free space is provided in the envelope, sufficient so that in the absence of a lamp the closing grid can enter the envelope.
Thus during transport and storage the total volume is lower due to the fact that the closing grid has entered the envelope.

Advantageously, the closing grid comprises at least one recessed part for, when it has entered the envelope, to accommodate the shape of an organ.
Thus the depth of the envelope can be even smaller, which facilitates its mounting in technical voids of limited height. In addition there is also savings on the material of the envelope.
To further gain depth by avoiding the need for a fixed reflector in the envelope, the internal wall of the envelope is reflective so as to constitute by itself a reflector.
To compensate for the absence of an optical reflector, the closure grid may also include light-reflecting profiles.
When the luminaire comprises a decorative cover to hide the organs necessary for the electrical supply, this cover is advantageously fixed by means allowing it to be removed and put back without tools.
When the closing grid is of the louvre type, the cover is advantageously provided with slots in which the louvre slats are capable of becoming embedded when the louvre is tucked into the envelope.
Thus the cover can be placed, in the absence of the lamp, in another position than its working position, but nevertheless inside the envelope, in order to allow the introduction of the grid into the envelope.
With all these provisions, it is possible to produce a luminaire whose total height in storage is only 60 mm.
The luminaire being of the type to be recessed in a ceiling made of suspended elements, with profiles comprising a vertical profile part and a horizontal profile part serving as a support on which the ceiling elements are placed, is advantageously provided with means for laying the envelope on the top of said vertical profile part, the closing grid being placed on a horizontal profile part in place of a ceiling element.
When the luminaire is packaged in a transport carton, the luminaire is placed there with the closing grid returned to the envelope and the interior dimensions of the carton are then reduced to those of the envelope alone.
These aspects of the invention as well as other more detailed aspects will become more clearly apparent from the following description of a nonlimiting embodiment.
Figure 1 shows schematically in cross section a luminaire according to the invention, of a type provided for tubular lamps, at the top in the use position, and at the bottom in the transport position. 2 shows a longitudinal section along AA of Figure 1, of one end of the same luminaire in the position of use.

The luminaire which will now be described is designed for a linear type lamp, for example one of those known under the references TL, PL (fluorescent tubes). Throughout the description below, the so-called longitudinal direction will be that of the axis of the lamps.
The luminaire of FIG. 1 comprises a rigid envelope essentially comprising a profile 1 with a generally trough profile upside down (in the figure), with the opening facing downwards for the exit of the light. A member 8 (for example a "ballast") is provided for the electric supply of lamps. To simplify the figures, the tube supports are not shown.
The grid 2 is here of the type called "louvre", made of strips 10 parallel to each other. It is equipped with longitudinal reflector profiles 4, here four in number.
At the top of the figure, the luminaire is installed in a suspended ceiling with visible irons 3 in the shape of a T upside down. Inside the envelope, two tubular lamps 9 are mounted in a fixed position. The grid 2 is adapted in the opening of the irons 3, placed on a part of a horizontal profile in place of a ceiling element, and placed below the envelope on the outside thereof. This way of supporting the louvre, which is the simplest, requires that the spacings between bars of the ceilings are normalized, which is generally the case. Common standard irons are those called "15 mm" and those called "24 mm".
The envelope is fixed to the irons 3, at a certain height above the louvre 2, in particular to make room for the tubes 9. The width of the envelope is slightly less than the passage dimension between the irons to facilitate the fitting of the luminaire, and it is also of a low enough height to allow its adaptation in technical voids whose height is limited to 100 mm. It is clear that with the tubes in place in the luminaire, the louvre 2 is too thick to be able to be contained in the envelope.
The ballast 8 is fixed longitudinally in the middle of the envelope, and covered with a decorative cover called a "ballast cover" 5.

For storage and / or transport of the luminaire, the lamps are removed. In the luminaire in the storage position shown at the bottom of the figure, the louvre 2 has returned to the free space of the envelope 1, and completely contained in the latter. The height of the reflector profiles 4 is limited to allow the louvre to be housed in the position shown. The louvre has a recessed part, here the part below the ballast 8, for, when it has entered the envelope, to accommodate the shape of the member 8.
The ballast cover 5 is fixed by means allowing it to be removed and replaced without tools. This makes it possible to mount it on the side, to the right in the figure, to release the ballast 8 and allow the louvre to approach it as close as possible, and then easily reassemble it in its place in a luminaire in position use.
Due to the reduced space in the body of the luminaire, no reflective profile fixed to the enclosure is provided. To overcome this drawback, the internal wall of the casing 1 is reflective, for example lacquered in glossy white, so as to constitute by itself a reflector.

In FIG. 2, the left end of the envelope 1 of the luminaire is placed on the top of the first bars 3 of a suspended ceiling. The other end, not shown, rests in the same way on top of other irons parallel to the first. So the envelope is placed at its ends, while the louvre is placed by its side edges.
The manner of supporting the envelope described above again assumes that the spacings between the irons of the ceilings are normalized. In the event that this condition is not fulfilled, it would however be easy to make other fixing means making it possible to obtain a similar position of the envelope, for example by means of mobile stirrups or fingers of spring wire. , attached to the casing and supported laterally on the carrier irons 3 or even the primary irons (not shown, supporting the carrier irons 3).
The ballast cover 5 is provided with slots 6 in which the strips 10 of the louvre are capable of being fitted when the louvre has entered the envelope. The reflectors 4 are not shown in Figure 2 for simplicity.
The above description refers to a luminaire with two tubes, it is clear that it can easily be adapted to the case of luminaires with three or four tubes, for example those with four tubes of 600 mm which are square in shape, seen from below. In the case of three tubes, the ballast would be off-center and placed between two tubes.
