- a self-inductance coil is used to inject a low frequency current into a cable of a television distribution network, to power various devices.
- a coil intended for the application mentioned above has relatively large dimensions, since it must let through large currents (of the order of ten amps). Therefore parasitic capacitances, between each turn and also vis-à-vis the environment, are troublesome because they induce in the characteristic of the inductance many resonance frequencies located in the bandwidth of television signals. This can be combated by damping the resonances by means of damping resistors. It has been proposed for example to split the winding into several parts, a resistor being connected in parallel on each of these parts. However, this means is costly to implement.
