Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for distributing the pressure of a ski, such as in particular an alpine ski, over its sliding surface.
- the invention also relates to a set of front and rear alpine ski binding elements, as well as an alpine ski.
- the skis which are used for the practice of alpine skiing consist of relatively long boards, on which the skier's shoes are retained by front and rear fastening elements.
- the boots and the fasteners are located approximately in the middle area of the ski, which is commonly called the skate.
- the skis have in themselves, at rest, a natural camber, by which the skate is raised naturally relative to the front end of the ski, or tip, and the rear end of the ski, or heel.
- the skis have flexibility.
- the ski deforms elastically in response to the various stresses to which it is subjected on the part of the skier, but also on the part of the terrain on which it slides.
- the main stress to which the ski is subjected is constituted by the weight of the skier, and by the reaction to which the sliding surface subjects the ski.
- the ski is also stressed by the binding elements. It is indeed known that the fastening elements pinch the shoe longitudinally. To do this, the rear fixing element is generally slidably mounted, and it is biased elastically towards the front by springs which are commonly called recoil springs. The reaction to this pinching action is transmitted by the binding elements to the ski. This reaction, however, has a different nature depending on the method of assembling the rear binding element to the ski. Indeed, certain rear binding elements are assembled directly to the ski, while others are connected to the front binding element by an inextensible link, such as a metal blade which extends under the boot.
- an inextensible link such as a metal blade which extends under the boot.
- Skiing is also influenced by the position of the skier over his boots, depending on whether he carries his weight forward or backward.
- the pressure distribution of the ski on the snow is mainly determined by the internal structure of the ski, and by the method of assembly of the binding elements to the ski, that is to say with or without connecting blade between the front and rear elements.
- the pressure distribution can also be influenced by the thrust intensity given to the recoil spring.
- European patent application No. 183 586 describes a blade of elastic material attached above the ski, between the binding elements and the ski. This blade has, at its front end and its rear end, sliders by which a portion of the forces to which the ski is subjected passes vertically.
- This device however has the disadvantage of having modest performance, for a large size. It is suitable for the case where both feet of the skier are in support for the same ski, to avoid that the whole weight of the skier is concentrated in the skate area. On the other hand, it would be ill-suited in the case of a pair of traditional skis.
- One of the aims of the invention is to propose a device which makes it possible to modify, dynamically, the pressure distribution of a ski on its sliding surface, that is to say which takes account of the position of the skier on his skis and the vertical pushing effort of the skier on his skis.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a device which also gives the skier a suspension effect with respect to his skis.
- the device according to the invention distributes the pressure of a ski on its sliding surface.
- the ski is equipped with front and rear binding elements intended to retain the ends of a boot.
- the device has at least one support element on which the shoe sole rests.
- - front and rear bending means for generating, in response to a vertical stress on the boot, a bending moment on the two front and rear ends of the ski,
- Figure 1 shows, in side view, a ski in the skate area, equipped with the device according to a non-limiting embodiment of the invention, and two front and rear fixing elements.
- Figure 2 is a top view of the assembly shown in Figure 1, more particularly of the front part of this assembly.
- FIG. 3 is a side view, in partial section, of the rear part of the assembly shown in FIG. 1.
- FIG. 4 is a top view of the device shown in FIG. 3.
- FIG. 5 is an exploded perspective view of elements visible in FIGS. 3 and 4.
- Figure 6 is a side view of the rear part of the device, and illustrates the operation of the device.
- Figure 7 shows, in side view, the rear part of the assembly of Figure 1, according to an alternative embodiment.
- Figure 8 shows, in side view, the front part of the assembly of Figure 1, according to an alternative embodiment.
- FIG. 9 illustrates an alternative embodiment of the invention.
- FIG. 10 is a top view of an element present in the assembly of FIG. 9.
- FIG. 1 shows, in side view, an alpine ski 1, in its skate area.
- a boot which is retained on the ski by a front binding element 3, and a rear binding element 4.
- These two binding elements are connected to the ski by means which will be described later.
- the front fixing element 3 has a body 5, movable relative to a base 6, against the elastic return force of a spring which is not visible in the figure.
- the body 5 also carries a retaining member 7 of the front end of the shoe 2.
- the base 6 is extended, furthermore, towards the rear by a support plate 8 on which the front end of the shoe rests. the shoe sole.
- any other suitable type of front fastener could also be suitable.
- the rear fastening element 4 has a body 9, which itself carries a retaining member 10 from the rear end of the shoe 2.
- the retaining member 10 is movable against the elastic return force of a spring which is not visible in the figure.
- the body 9 is movable longitudinally along a slide 14 against the elastic return force of a spring which brings it forward, so that the shoe 2 is pinched in a longitudinal direction between the element front 3 and rear element 4. All this is well known to those skilled in the art.
- the rear fastening element 4 also has a rear support plate 12 on which the rear end of the shoe rests.
- the ski is equipped with a device which is intended to control the pressure that the ski exerts on its sliding surface, or more exactly to control the pressure distribution of the ski on its sliding surface as a function of the stresses to which the shoe subjects the ski.
- This device mainly comprises a probe which is capable of picking up the vertical stresses of the shoe.
- this probe picks up the stresses on one end of the shoe, and thus it reacts in particular to the change in pressure, position and balance of the skier with respect to his shoes.
- the device also comprises front and rear bending means which, in response to the stresses picked up by the probe, generate bending moments at the base of the front fixing element, and at the level of the rear fixing.
- the device comprises connecting means between the feeler and the flexing means to transform a vertical downward bias of the shoe into bending moments which tend to cause the front end to plunge towards the sliding surface. the rear end of the ski.
- the probe is movable vertically, and it is constituted by the rear support plate 12 of the rear fixing element 4.
- a base plate 13 is assembled integrally to the upper surface of the ski, by any suitable means, for example by screws.
- the body 9 of the rear fixing element 4 is also slidably mounted relative to a slide 14, which can tilt relative to the base plate 13 around a hinge pin 15 located in the rear part of the slide 14 and base plate 13.
- the hinge pin 15 is also raised substantially relative to the upper surface of the ski. The reason for this will be explained later.
- the base plate 12 extends forward the slide 14, and constitutes with this slide a one-piece assembly.
- the base plate 13 rises laterally along the slide 14 by two longitudinal wings 18 and 19.
- the rear part of these wings 18 and 19 carries the hinge pin 15.
- the wings 18 and 19 have a lumen 20, 21, oriented substantially vertically.
- a pin 22, oriented transversely, is integrally connected to the slide 14. This pin passes through each of the slots 20 and 21, and its ends circulate in these slots.
- the feeler consists of the support plate 12, which is integrally connected to the slide 14, and therefore which accompanies the slide in its tilting movement around the axis 15.
- the support plate may also be coated with any suitable material, intended to facilitate the sliding of the shoe sole with a view to its release.
- the device according to the invention also comprises bending means, which are capable of inducing a bending moment in the rear end of the ski.
- the bending means are constituted by the rear base plate 13, which is secured to the surface of the ski, and which also has, at its rear end, the axis 15 of slide joint. It is understood that a horizontal backward push, exerted on the axis 15, induces on the ski a bending moment which tends to plunge the heel of the ski towards its sliding surface.
- the device also comprises front bending means. Referring more particularly to Figures 1 and 2, these means comprise a front base plate 25, which is secured to the ski by any suitable means, and for example by screws.
- This front base plate 25 is interposed between the base 6 of the front binding element 3 and the upper surface of the ski. In its rear part, the front base plate 25 has a free end 26 raised relative to the ski, where we can see in particular an axis 27 whose role will be described later.
- the device according to the invention further comprises connecting means between the feeler 12 and the front and rear bending means 25, for transmitting to the bending means thrust forces resulting from the vertical stress of the captured shoe by the probe 12.
- the connecting means mainly comprise a rocker 30, a front compression bar 31 which connects the rocker 30 to the front base plate 25, and a rear compression bar which similarly connects the rocker 30 to the rear base plate 13, and which is here constituted by the slide 14 and its front extension 12.
- the front compression bar 31 is connected to the front base plate 25 by the articulation axis 27.
- This compression bar is of any suitable type, and it is capable of transmitting to the axis 27 a longitudinal thrust towards the 'before. It is for example a rigid bar of metal or plastic.
- the rear compression bar which is formed by the slide 14, is connected to the rear base plate 13 by the hinge pin 15, which is also the pivot axis of the slide.
- This rear compression bar is rigid and it is able to transmit to the base plate 13, via the axis 15, a longitudinal thrust towards the rear.
- the connection between the rocker 30 and the front and rear compression bars is more particularly visible in FIGS. 3 to 5.
- the rocker 30 has, seen from the side, an L shape.
- the rocker 30 has a branch horizontal 35 oriented towards the rear, and a vertical branch 36.
- the free end of the horizontal branch 35 materialized by a transverse pin 37, bears against a wedge 38 secured to the upper surface of the ski.
- the shim 38 can be constituted by a forward extension of the rear base plate 13.
- the rear compression bar formed by the slide 14, is connected to the rocker 30 at a hinge pin 40 which is located in the central part of the rocker.
- the front compression bar 31 is connected to the rocker 30 at a transverse articulation axis 42 located in the upper part of the vertical wing 36.
- the various elements are arranged in such a way that a downward tilting of the slide 14 causes the rocker 30 to rotate counter-clockwise, the rocker resting on the wedge 38 via of its pin 37.
- This rotation of the the effect of the rocker is to move the articulation axes 40 and 42 in a substantially horizontal direction, the axis 42 moving forwards, and the axis 40 moving by reaction towards the rear.
- the amplitude of displacement of each of the axes 40 and 42 is determined by the vertical position of the axes 40 and 42 relative to the pin 38, and the distance between these axes and the pin 38.
- thrust forces F1 and F2 induced by the force F in the front compression bars 31 and rear 14 have the same order of magnitude, but are not a priori equal.
- the relation which binds them depends on the relative position of the three elements axes 40, 42 and pin 37, as well as on the inclination with respect to the horizontal of the segments delimited in the plane of figure 1, on the one hand by the axes 27 and 42, on the other hand the axes 40 and 15. This inclination is variable with the rotation of the rocker.
- the device which has just been described operates in the following manner.
- the ski induces in the compression bars a slight prestress oriented horizontally in the direction of the rocker. This rest preload tends to tilt the rocker clockwise, which drives the slide 14 and the probe 12 in the high position relative to the axis 15.
- the device When the stress F has ceased, the device returns to the rest position, that is to say the position of the rocker 30 and of the slide 14 which is shown in FIG. 3.
- the device according to the invention takes advantage of the flexibility of the ski to send forward and backward part of the vertical stresses that the boot transmits to the ski in the area of the skate.
- FIG. 7 illustrates an alternative embodiment of the device which has just been described, according to which the wedge 38 on which the pin 37 of the rocker 30 comes to bear, is no longer integral with the rear plate 13, but is integral with the ski by means of an element 50 independent of the rear base plate 13.
- This arrangement makes it possible to release the flexion of the rear part of the ski.
- the ski can, in fact, flex between the rear plate 13 and the wedge 38.
- FIG. 8 illustrates an alternative embodiment of the device at the connection between the front compression bar 31 and the base plate 55 of the front element 3.
- this connection is made by means of a rocker 52, articulated around a transverse axis with respect to a support 53 integral with the ski.
- the free front end of the rocker 52 is supported under a flange 54 that the front base plate 25 has in its rear part.
- the horizontal thrust forward which is transmitted by the compression bar 31 is transformed by the rocker into a vertical upward bias which is exerted under the rim 54 of the base plate 25.
- FIG. 9 illustrates another alternative embodiment of the device according to the invention, according to which the front compression bar 61 is produced in two parts 62 and 63, articulated together in their central part so as to constitute a sort of toggle joint.
- the compression bar 61 is in the configuration illustrated in FIG. 9.
- the toggle is broken, which eliminates any prestress in the device, therefore any additional prestress in the ski.
- this preload is generated additionally by springs 64 which act on the articulation axis 65 between the two parts 62 and 63.
- the axis 65 is mounted in the front part 62 at level of light 66, which is longitudinally oriented with respect to this part 62.
- springs 64 are housed by 'pairs in the portion 62 and push the axle 65 backward.
- the flattening of the toggle joint causes the axis 65 to move in its lumen 66 against the return force of the springs 64.
- the springs then induce, in the front compression bar 61, a preload in the direction of the rocker, which tends to bring the slide 14 up to its high position.
- a stop is additionally provided for bonding together in an integral manner, in a longitudinal direction, the two parts 62 and 63 when the toggle joint is in the flattened position.
- this stop is constituted by a screw 67, which is engaged in a threaded orifice of the part 62, so as to come to bear against the front end of the rear part 63.
- the forward horizontal forces that the rotation of the rocker 30 induces, in response to the vertical downward stresses of the shoe on the support 12 are transmitted to the front base plate 25 without causing additional compression of the springs 64.
- This construction also makes it possible to induce a prestress in the device, and therefore in skiing, only when desired, in particular when skiing. Apart from this skiing practice, this prestressing can be canceled by opening the toggle joint, as can be seen in FIG. 9.
- the rocker 30 could be turned over, that is to say place the pin 37 on the other side towards the front element 3 and interchange the position of the articulation axes of the compression bars 31 and 14 on the rocker .
- a probe could be used which is independent of the front and rear support plates.
- other variants are possible at the level of the connection means between the feeler and the front and rear bending means.
