Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for producing tasteless pastes of alkyl ether sulfates in glycerol.
- alkyl ether sulfates In contrast to » alkyl ether sulfates, alkyl ether sulfates have so far found practically no use in toothpastes because of their unpleasant aftertaste and aftertaste.
- German Offenlegungsschrift DE 34 47 867 describes a process for separating 1,4-dioxane from alkyl ether sulfates, in which an ethoxylated silicone oil is added to the aqueous surfactant paste for defoaming and this mixture is then flowed through with a steam stream.
- aqueous pastes of alkyl ether sulfates are obtained which, owing to their reduced 1,4-dioxane content and the associated lower hazard potential, can be used advantageously in detergents and cleaning agents.
- the object of the present invention was to develop a process for the production of taste-neutral pastes of alkyl ether sulfates.
- Alkyl ether sulfates are to be understood as the sulfates of the adducts of ethylene oxide (EO) and / or propylene oxide (PO) with saturated and / or unsaturated, linear and / or branched fatty alcohols, which are obtainable by known processes.
- the fatty alcohols on which the alkyl ether sulfates are based can be pure compounds. However, it is usually preferred to use mixtures of different fatty alcohols which are obtained from native raw materials such as fats and oils. These fatty alcohols can be reacted with the alkylene oxides, for example under pressure and in the presence of catalysts, to give fatty alcohol alkoxylates.
- the degree of alkoxylation it applies that in alkoxylation reactions such as the addition of x mol of ethylene oxide to 1 mol of fatty alcohol according to the known ethoxylation processes, not a uniform adduct but a mixture of residual amounts of free fatty alcohol and a number of homologous (oligomeric) addition products of 1, 2, 3, ... x, x + 1, x + 2 ... etc. Molecules of ethylene oxide per molecule of fatty alcohol is obtained.
- the average degree of ethoxylation (x) is defined by the starting amounts of fatty alcohol and ethylene oxide.
- the distribution curve of the homogeneous mixture generally has a maximum in the range between x-3 and x + 3. Further information can be found, for example, in the magazine Soap / Cosmetics / Chemical Specialties, issue January 1988, p. 34.
- the desired alkyl ether sulfates are finally obtained by reacting the fatty alcohol alkoxylates with, for example, sulfur trioxide or chlorosulfonic acid and subsequent neutralization, for example with alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, aluminum or ammonium hydroxides.
- Preferred alkyl ether sulfates are compounds of the formula (I)
- R is a saturated or olefinically unsaturated, linear or branched alkyl radical having 8 to 22 carbon atoms, n is 2 or 3, x is 1 to 15 and M is hydrogen, an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, aluminum, a Is ammonium group or an alkyl or alkylolammonium group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms in each alkyl or alkylol group.
- step (a) the process according to the invention in particular uses aqueous pastes which contain 30 to 70, preferably 55 to 70% by weight of an alkyl ether sulfate.
- the pastes of alkyl ether sulfates in glycerol obtained in the process according to the invention are still water-containing because of the previous steam treatment and can be used as such. However, it may be desirable to reduce the water content, e.g. B. by distillation; for practical reasons, water contents below 3% by weight have proven to be favorable.
- the taste-neutral pastes of alkyl ether sulfates in glycerin according to the invention are suitable for use in the field of cosmetics. So can be cosmetic preparations where it is important to avoid taste impairment, e.g. B. toothpastes, based on the pastes according to the invention.
- Texapon N 70 aqueous solution of sodium lauryl ether sulfate; Active substance content: approx. 70% by weight ("Texapon ( R ) N70"; Henkel / Düsseldorf) Glycerin: 99% (Henkel / Düsseldorf) Dehvdazol A 400 P: carboxymethylallulose, Na salt ( Henkel) Sident 12 PS: silica, precipitated (Degussa) Syloblanc 34 (Sn 34): silica, amorphous (Grace)
- a mixture of 100 g of Texapon N70 and 400 g of glycerol was placed in a stirred container and the water contained therein was removed first by distillation at 80 ° C./100 torr, then at 110 ° C./20 torr.
- the paste thus obtained was flowed through with steam at 120 ° C./12 Torr for 2.5 hours.
- the mixture was then dried at 120 ° C./5 Torr for 30 minutes.
- the water content of the Texapon N 70 paste thus obtained in glycerol was 0.3% by weight.
- Recipe A which contained the alkyl ether sulfate pretreated by the process according to the invention, was practically taste-neutral, while recipe B, which contained the untreated alkyl ether sulfate, had a pronounced aftertaste.

Description
Bevorzugte Alkylethersulfate sind Verbindungen gemäß Formel (I)
R-0-(CnH2n0)χ-S03M (I)
