Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a method and a device for opening folded, bound or stapled multi-sheet products, in particular printed products, according to the preamble of claims 1 and 5 respectively.
  • the invention further relates to a device for processing, in particular inserting, printed products.
  • a method and an apparatus of this type are known from CH-A-644 815 and the corresponding US-A-4,420,146.
  • the folded product to be opened is placed on a flat support element with an open side leading towards a stationary opening element.
  • This opening element has a flat tongue-like piercing element which is fastened to a shaft which runs approximately parallel to the support element and at right angles to the conveying direction of the product.
  • the piercing member can be rotated with this shaft and points in its starting position with its pointed piercing end against the incoming product. With this piercing, the inserting element sticks between sheets of the product.
  • the shaft and the piercing element are then rotated about their longitudinal axis, while the feed movement of the product continues.
  • This method and the corresponding device only allow moving products to be opened. Furthermore, the supplied product can be fanned out in the area of the open side, so that the product is opened between wrong sheets. Moreover, in the known device, adjustment work must be carried out precisely for processing products of different thicknesses.
  • FIG. 1 shows part of a device for processing folded printed products 10, which are transported step by step in the conveying direction F by means of a transport device 12.
  • the printed products 10 lie with one of their flat sides on a flat support element 14 and are fed to an opening device 16.
  • the printed product 10 comes into contact with the flat side facing the support element 14 on an opening element 18 designed in the manner of a segment of a disc and is pressed against it by means of a self-resilient pressing element 20 with little force, so that the printed product 10 is held together with sheets lying against one another.
  • the pressing element 20 thus forms a counter element 22 which interacts with the opening element 18.
  • the piercing end 26 of the piercing member 24 is in relation to an axis of rotation 18 ' right-angled support surface 34 of the opening element 18, against which the printed product 10 rests in the starting position 23 of the opening element 18, offset in the direction against the pressing element 10 acting as counter element 22 by a predetermined distance A (see FIG. 6).
  • This distance A thus precisely defines the point where the printing product 10 is pierced, since this lies against the bearing surface 34 in a defined manner under the action of the pressing element 20.
  • the printed product 10 is thus opened further from the open side 30 in the area of the corner to the likewise open, leading side 30 'by turning the opening element 18 further after the piercing into the open position 23' in that the on the piercing member 24 lying sheets from the remaining sheets, ie those between the support member 14 and the piercing member 24, are lifted in regions.
  • the printed product 10, which is now partially open in the area of the leading side 30 ', is moved in the conveying direction F against a stationary, wedge-shaped separating element 36 which moves in between the sheets which are lifted off one another and is moved past it.
  • a stationary, wedge-shaped separating element 36 which moves in between the sheets which are lifted off one another and is moved past it.
  • the sheets mentioned are lifted further apart and the printed product 10, which is now fully open, is kept open during further transport by a fixed, rail-like hold-open member 38.
  • an insert 42 is now inserted into the opened printed product 10.
  • the transport device 12 is of a generally known type and has controllable clamps 44 which are driven to and fro in the conveying direction F (see also CH-A-575 303 and US-A-4,058,202).
  • the clamps 44 are transferred to the closed position, where they clamp the respective printed product 10 at the collar 28 and take it with them.
  • the clamps 44 are opened, so that the printed products 10 stand still with respect to the support element 14.
  • the opening device 16, the separating member 36 and the open holding member 38 are outside the effective range of the clips 44.
  • the processing device according to FIG. 2 also has a flat support element 14, against which the printed products 10 are transported in the conveying direction F by means of the transport device 12.
  • the printed products 10 are first fed to the processing device in the feed direction Z with the collar 28 ahead. They come to rest with a flat side on the support element 14 and with their collar 28 in the effective area of the clamps 44, which of course are opened during insertion and then transferred to the closed position for holding the printed products 10.
  • the opening device 16 is arranged at the feed point 40 for the printed product 10, and in order to enable the feed, the opening element 18 is about a pivot axis 46, which runs parallel to the support surface 14 ′ and approximately at right angles to the conveying direction F, in the direction opposite to the arrow 46 'pivotable into a rest position 47 distant from the support element 14.
  • the opening element becomes 18 is pivoted in the direction of arrow 46 'into a pressure position 47', where it comes to rest on the printed product 10 on the flat side facing away from the support element 14.
  • the support element 14 is here the counter element 22, of which the printed product 10 is now held together in the piercing area 32 together with the opening element 18.
  • the opening element 18 rests with its bearing surface 34 on the printed product 10 and since in this case the piercing end 26 of the piercing member 24 in the direction against the support element 14 by a distance A from the bearing surface 34 is spaced, now after the reversal of the direction of rotation, the piercing member 24 pierces with the piercing end 26 between sheets of the printed product 10 in the piercing area 32 on the open side 30.
  • the opening element 18 By turning the opening element 18 further in the piercing direction E, these sheets are now lifted further apart by lifting the sheets resting on the piercing member 24 on the side facing away from the supporting element 14. It should be noted that when the open position 23 'is reached again, the opening element 18 with its bearing surface 34 has run off the printed product 10, but remains with its piercing member 24 in the opened printed product 10.
  • two printed products 10 can be fed with one another and one on top of the other in the direction Z, the respective upper printed product 10 being opened by the opening device 16.
  • the printed product 10 which has already been opened in each case is also opened in the region of a second one, shown in FIG. 3, by means of the hold-open member 38 Opening device 16 kept open.
  • this opening device 16 which corresponds to the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the printing product 10 lying at the bottom, ie the printing product 10 resting on the support element 14, is now opened.
