Definitions

  • the present invention relates to washing machines and especially those with top loading.
  • German patent application 3,310,279 describes a device for stopping and maintaining a drum washing machine in the top hatch position at the end or when an interruption of a washing cycle.
  • a spring pulls on a brake and a lever up a position where the lever abuts on the drum preventing the brake acting on the drum.
  • the drum is then driven in rotation until the lever plunges into a recess in the drum allowing the brake to act on the drum under spring action while the drum motor is stopped.
  • the brake is brought to act abruptly on the drum while the latter still rotates by inertia, which causes an unwanted brutal shock. To limit this shock, it a specific slow rotation speed is provided, which makes the more complex system.
  • An object of the present invention is to provide a device for stopping a washing machine drum by hatch position at the top at the end or during an interruption of a wash cycle.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide such a device for holding the drum in position hatch at the top during unloading.
  • a stop device comprising a shoe which is normally in a rest position high allowing a washing machine drum to perform freely from rotations.
  • the shoe is lowered and pressed against the drum to rub against it at the same time as the drive motor of the drum is restarted.
  • the drive motor is sufficiently powerful to rotate the drum despite hoof braking forces.
  • the present invention relates more particularly to a stop device in a predetermined position of a drum driven by a motor to perform rotation cycles around an axis integral with a frame.
  • This device includes: a brake movable relative to the frame; an articulated detector lever on the frame; means likely to bring the brake and the sensor lever in a rest position or in a position active where the brake acts on the drum or an integral part of the drum; a finger secured to the drum capable of actuating the detector lever in the active position; and cooperating means with the sensor lever to start the engine in the active position and stop it when said lever is actuated by said finger.
  • the brake is a shoe brake mounted on a lever articulated to a end on the frame and whose free end is actuated by a connecting rod and crank system.
  • said crank comprises a cam against which is biased an arm of the detector lever, the cam being such that, at the position rest, one arm of the lever is outside the trajectory of said finger, and that, in the active position, the arm is in the path of the finger.
  • the detector lever cooperates with a setting switch operation of said motor, the detector lever actuating the switch in said active position.
  • the cam includes an indentation into which a heel fits of the sensor lever in the active position.
  • the cam includes a notch cooperating with a second switch detection of the cam position.
  • the shoe is articulated on the lever eccentrically and a spring is arranged between the lever and the shoe.
  • a stop device shown very schematically in Figures 1A to 1C includes a brake consisting of a shoe 1 secured to a lever 3 substantially horizontal.
  • the left end of lever 3 is articulated by compared to frame 5 of the washing machine.
  • a rod system 7 and crank 8 acts on the right end of lever 3 to whether or not to press the shoe 1 on a washing machine drum 10.
  • the crank 8 is in fact a circular cam pressing on one, 12-1, of the arms of a lever 12 articulated on the built near the lower part of the cam 8.
  • the arm 12-1 extends up and left and the lever 12 includes another arm 12-2 extending down and to the right up to vicinity of the drum 10.
  • the arm 12-1 is biased in the direction clockwise to cam 8 by spring 14 disposed between the free end of the arm 12-1 and the frame.
  • the position of figure lA corresponds to the position rest of the stop device according to the invention.
  • Leverage 3 is in a high position and shoe 1 does not press on the drum 10.
  • the arm 12-1 presses on a circular part of the cam 8 and arm 12-2 is in a raised position where its end free is outside the trajectory of an integral finger 16 of the drum 10. In this position, the drum 10 performs freely from rotations.
  • the cam 8 When stopping a rotation cycle, whether at at the end of a cycle or during a voluntary interruption, the cam 8 is rotated clockwise. By turning, this cam 8 lowers the lever 3 and presses the shoe 1 against the drum 10.
  • FIG. 1B corresponds to an active position of the device stop.
  • Cam 8 has rotated 180 ° relative to the position of Figure 1A and resulted in the blocking of the drum 10 by shoe 1.
  • Arm 12-1 is in contact with a flat 8-1 of cam 8, which caused a rotation in the direction clockwise lever 12 relative to position of Figure 1A.
  • the arm 12-1 activates a switch 18 and the free end of the arm 12-2 is in the trajectory of finger 16.
  • the profile of the free end of the arm 12-2 is such, as shown in the figures, that the finger 16 can lift this end regardless of the direction of drum rotation.
  • Switch 18 causes the rotation of the cam 8 and starts the drive motor drum 10 clockwise or clockwise reverse.
  • Drum 10 is braked by shoe 1 but the coefficient friction of this shoe is chosen so that the motor can overcome friction forces.
  • the drum 10 starts to rotate slowly and at a given instant finger 16 meets the free end of the arm 12-2. Then, the lever 12 is driven by the finger in the direction counterclockwise.
  • the rotation speed of the drum is chosen slow so that the kinetic energy of the drum is low enough that after deactivating switch 18, the drum stops at an angle such that the finger 16 always keeps arm 12-2 up.
  • Figure 1C shows the stop device at a instant after finger 16 meets the end free arm 12-2.
  • the arm 12-1 of the lever 12 has away from switch 18 and deactivated it. So the drum drive motor 10 stops and the drum remains blocked by shoe 1 in this position. Of course, we do match this position the hatch position at the top of the drum 10.
  • the cam 8 When starting a new rotation cycle, the cam 8 is rotated clockwise shows so that it returns to its initial position of the figure 1A where the drum 10 is unlocked and the arm 12-2 is moved away from its finger interception position 16.
  • FIGS. 2A to 2C represent an embodiment stop device according to the present invention in the Respective positions corresponding to Figures 1A to 1C.
  • FIGS. 1A to 1C we find the same elements as FIGS. 1A to 1C, or elements having identical functions, designated by the same references. This device works as described in relation to the previous figures. In the following description, we will not be interested only to details of the shape of the parts, which do not appear in Figures 1A to 1C.
  • Lever 3 has a U-shaped section reversed in the illustration Figures 2A to 2C and it is articulated on a plate 5 secured to the washing machine frame.
  • Shoe 1 is articulated on the side walls of lever 3 offset to the left relative to the center of the hoof which corresponds substantially in the center of the lever 3.
  • the upper arm 12-1 of the lever 12 comprises at its free end, as shown, a 12-3 heel extending to the right and pressing on cam 8. This arm 12-1 also includes a 12-4 extension to the left which is intended to actuate the switch 18 located above.
  • the lower arm 12-2 of the lever 12 comprises, at the level from its free end, a downward protrusion serving as support zone for the finger 16 secured to the drum 10.
  • Cam 8 which actuates lever 3 via of the connecting rod 7, is of cylindrical shape.
  • An indentation located at the rear of the cam 8 cooperates with the heel 12-3 of the lever 12 and plays the role of the flat 8-1 of the preceding figures.
  • a notch 8-2 located at the front of the cam 8 cooperates with a switch 22 to detect the position of this cam.
  • FIG. 2A corresponds to the rest position of the Figure 1A.
  • the lever 3 is in the high position and the shoe 1 is not not resting on the drum 10.
  • the cam 8 is at a position such that the heel 12-3 rests on a circular part of the cam and the notch 8-2 deactivates the switch 22.
  • the notch 8-2 cooperates with switch 22 to detect this position rest to stop a motor, not shown, drive of cam 8.
  • FIG. 2B corresponds to the active position of the Figure 1B.
  • Cam 8 has rotated 180 ° and indentation 8-1 is located opposite the heel 12-3 of the lever 12.
  • the lever 12 being clockwise biased by a spring not shown (such as a spiral spring arranged around the axis lever 12), heel 12-3 enters indentation 8-1 and end 12-2 of the lever lowers towards a position where it is likely to intercept finger 16.
  • a spring not shown such as a spiral spring arranged around the axis lever 12
  • Extension 12-4 of lever 12 operates the switch 18 which stops the motor of cam 8 and starts the motor drum 10.
  • the pressing force of the shoe 1 on the drum 10 is obtained by the spring 20 which is compressed by the lever 3.
  • the braking force caused by shoe 1 is chosen to be able to be defeated by the couple of drum motor 10. The drum 10 therefore starts to rotate slowly.
  • Figure 2C corresponds to the position of Figure 1C where finger 16 meets the free end of arm 12-2.
  • the lever 12 has turned in the opposite direction clockwise and its extension 12-4 has disabled the switch 18.
  • the drum motor 10 is stopped and the drum remains blocked in this position by shoe 1.
  • cam 8 When the stop device returns to its rest, the cam 8 is rotated until the notch 8-2 of cam 8 deactivates switch 22.
  • this shoe is preferably designed to press on a part integral with the drum located outside the tank in which is generally arranged the drum, such as the pulley or the drum drive belt. Finger 16 is then secured to the pulley.
  • switches 18 and 22 can be used to control the drive motors of the drum and cam 8 by a suitable programmer achievable by the skilled person.
  • the shoe material 1 If the shoe presses on the aforementioned belt, it can be metallic. If he presses a part metallic, its friction surface may be coated with a material commonly used in brakes, such as ferodo.
