Abstract

The window sill has a sill body (1) and lateral edges (4), which limit the sill body laterally. These rise beyond the sill body (1) to prevent water from penetrating in the reveal region. The plastering in the reveal region adjoins the said edges. To prevent having to provide a putty joint between the edges and the plaster for the purpose of taking up the thermal expansion of the sill body, the edges (4) are joined by a permanent-elastic material (7) to the sill body (1). The thermal expansion is then taken up by said permanent-elastic material (7) between the sill body (1) and the edges (4). <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a prefabricated window sill according to the preamble of the first claim.

In the case of window sills with this structure, the shelves are provided for the lateral connection in the reveal area. This is important for any masonry, as the penetration of moisture - especially with external insulation - must be prevented. If the external insulation is plastered, a sealing joint made of putty must be installed between the plaster on the external insulation and the shelf. This is because the window sills work according to their longitudinal expansion.

For this reason, sealing joints made of putty are usually formed in the case of plastered masonry, between on-board and plastering. If these are not used, a crack between the shelf and plaster must be accepted. The attachment of unprotected sealing joints is undesirable for various reasons. They represent a source of damage or a maintenance problem. Even with correct installation, the putty exposed to the weather loses its elasticity over time, so that the joints can leak. Finally, the on-site installation of the putty joints involves an additional work step in which errors can occur.

Compensation elements are used between the window sill and the masonry. Each of these elements comprises one end of the window sill in a U-shape and consists of an outer jacket and an inner, elastic compensation layer. However, this device is quite complex to manufacture. In addition, the part of the leveling layer below the window sill is permanently loaded and quickly loses its elastic properties. Neither can this construction prevent moisture from penetrating between the wall and the compensation elements, unless the window sill is glued to the plaster in an additional step.

Two solutions for metallic window sills are proposed in DE-A 3 231 600 and DE-U-89 03 268. However, these are not suitable for use with window sills made of concrete, stone or the like.

It is therefore the task of improving a window sill of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that the plaster can be brought directly up to the flank without a sealing joint, and the above-mentioned disadvantages are avoided.

This is achieved by the features defined in the patent claims.

The bench body can thus work in its longitudinal direction independently of the lateral overhangs. These remain firmly attached to the side reveal or plaster. The full thermal expansion of the bench body is absorbed by the permanently elastic material between the bench body and the overhangs. This eliminates the need for a sealing joint on the border between plaster and reveal. The prefabricated window sill can be installed on site without any special sealing measures. It is advantageous if the bench body and the flanges are designed so that the joint containing the permanently elastic material is concealed from the outside when the window sill is installed and is therefore protected against external influences. In addition to aesthetic advantages, this provides protection for the permanently elastic material against the effects of light or UV and bird feed, etc. This ensures the lasting effect of the measure taken.

  • Figur 1 die perspektivische Ansicht einer linken Fensterbankseite in Explosionsdarstellung;
  • Figur 2 eine Seitenansicht dieser Fensterbank;
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. Show it:
  • Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view of a left window sill side;
  • Figure 2 is a side view of this window sill;
  • Figure 3 is a sectional view of the right window sill side according to the section line III - III in Figure 1, in the installed state, and
  • Figure 4 is a plan view of the right window sill side.

The illustrated embodiment is an insulated window sill, the bench body 1 has a core 2 made of thermally insulating polystyrene rigid foam, which is surrounded by glass fiber concrete 3. However, it should already be pointed out here that the measures according to the invention also in the case of non-isolated ones Window sills and those made of concrete or artificial stone are applicable.

The bank body 1 is laterally delimited by a flange 4, which essentially consists of glass fiber concrete. This is designed as a side wall which laterally covers the heat-insulating core 2. It essentially has a lower wall area 5 and a head area 6 adjoining it at the top, which have different functions. The wall area 5 forms the connection to the bench body 1 via a layer 7 of permanently elastic material. The layer 7 can consist of a permanently elastic adhesive, such as, for example, Sikaflex 11 FC or a pressure-sensitive hot-melt adhesive, such as Jet-melt from 3M. This material does not have to be present as a continuous layer, but can, for example, be applied as a bead along the circumference of the wall region 5.

On the other hand, the layer 7 can also be arranged as an elastic intermediate layer by means of a pourable material, such as the adhesive mortar Reckli-Epoxy-K-Elastic. If the elasticity is sufficient, the intermediate layer can be arranged over the entire surface.

What is essential here is the permanently elastic connection between the flanges 4 and the bench body, which is able to absorb the thermal expansion of the bench body. This stretch can be 1 to 2 mm on each side in the longitudinal direction of the window sill.

A function of the head region 6 of the shelf is to ensure a moisture-tight connection of the plaster to the reveal and to cover the layer 7 made of permanently elastic material. As can be seen in particular from FIG. 3, the rim has in its head region 6 a flank 9 with a slope towards the window sill. The plaster 10 thus overlaps the head region of the shelf. The borders 4 are thus well anchored in the plaster. It can be seen from FIGS. 1 and 4 that the head region 6 projects inwards and forwards over the lower wall region 5. He thus covers the layer 7 between the shelf and the bench body on its top. In this area of overlap, the shelf is not connected to the bench body, so that the parts can work against each other there. This corresponds to a lateral gap which remains open between a sealing lip 11 arranged on the rear of the bench and the head region 6 of the flange.

Another function of the head area 6 is to direct rainwater into the front window sill area, where it can flow off via the water nose without contaminating the facade. It should be noted that, as can be seen from FIG. 3, the lateral flanges are arranged higher than the sealing lip 11 or a weatherstrip (not shown) arranged above the sealing lip. This eliminates a leak at the side connection of the weather bar.

In order to cover the joint 7 made of permanently elastic material also to the front, a nose 12 is laterally provided at the front end of the bench body 1, which lug is aligned with the outer surface of the flanges 4 and covers the front edge thereof (see FIG. 4). Thus, when the window sill is installed, the joint 7 made of permanently elastic material is covered on all sides and, in particular, is not visible from the outside. Accordingly, no light, in particular no UV light, reaches this material, and other environmental influences are also prevented, which could lead to a change in the material.

A drip groove 14, which is arranged on the underside of the bench body 1, also ends on both sides in the region of the lugs 12.

The window sill described comes to the construction site as a prefabricated, one-piece element ready for installation. You can then, as shown in Figure 3, to be built in. For this purpose, it is placed in a mortar bed 15 on the window sill. Later, the external insulation can be installed or the plaster 10 can be installed so that it joins the flange 4 without a putty joint.

If the bench body 1 now begins to work laterally due to thermal expansion, as is indicated by an arrow in FIG. 3, the flanges 4 and their connection to the plaster 10 remain unaffected by this. Lateral dilations are absorbed by the permanently elastic material 7. It is no longer necessary to take special measures to seal the connections when laying the window sills. Rather, these can be laid in a conventional manner without special instructions, which means that errors on site can almost be excluded.
