Description

The invention relates to a device for cleaning cylindrical stencils with two cylindrical cleaning brushes rotatably mounted in a tub, on which the stencil rests in a position inclined to the horizontal during the cleaning process.

Facilities for cleaning cylindrical stencils, as are used in particular in textile printing, are divided into two large groups.

A group is characterized by a vertical wash box. The stencil to be cleaned is brought into this by pulling it over an initially horizontal spray tube and swiveling it up together with it and enclosing it in the cleaning container.

What is particularly advantageous about such devices is their small space requirement. The disadvantage is that only relatively short stencils can be swung up or processed without support. Processing is essentially limited to spraying off the inside and outside of the template, even if the use of a ring brush for templates of uniform diameter has already been proposed as an exception.

The second group of known stencil washing devices has the features outlined above. The advantage of these devices is that the sensitive stencils are supported over their entire length, so that damage during the washing process hardly occurs. The disadvantage is that the inclination of the cleaning brushes or the stencils to be cleaned is very limited is when the stencils are to be inserted into the device and removed by an operator standing on the floor.

The invention is based on the object on the one hand to support the template in operation by rotating cylinder brushes, on the other hand a significant oblique inclination in the range of 20 o - o 60 to reach at least in the final stages of processing. With such an inclined position, not only could paint residues drain away more easily, but it would also be avoided that liquid residues would accumulate in the area of the lower end ring and have to be removed after the actual cleaning process.

According to the invention the object is achieved in that the trough carrying the cleaning brushes is pivotally mounted about a horizontal axis.

When washing in a vertical arrangement, the entire pivoting time for the cleaning process is lost. The pivoting process must therefore be accomplished with the greatest possible acceleration, which requires considerably more design effort. Due to the fact that the process of screen cylinder or stencil washing is part of a complex changeover process, the cleaning time should be very short; otherwise there will be downtimes in a very expensive production plant.

This disadvantage can be avoided within the scope of the invention by means of a suitable procedure by putting the support device into operation already during the pivoting process. The circular stencil should only be rotated by means of the high-speed cylinder brushes when there are no longer any large accumulations of paint in the stencil, which should be supported (by the cylinder brushes).

Essential components of the device shown are (e.g. from AT-PS 284 169) known two cleaning brushes 1, 2, on which a stencil 11 to be cleaned rests. A spray tube 4 is used to clean the interior of the template 11 and is attached to a closed end 9 (left end according to FIGS. 1 and 2) of a trough 3 carrying the cleaning brushes 1, 2. The other end 10 of the tub 3 facing the end of the spray tube 4 is free so that the template 11 can be pulled over the spray tube 4.

New to the device shown is the proposal to arrange the tub 3 on a pedestal 5 pivotable about an axis 8. The pivoting takes place by means of a drive 6, which acts on a hydraulic unit 7.

The pivotable arrangement of the tub 3 makes it possible to insert the template 11 into the device while the tub 3 is in the horizontal position shown in FIG. 1. In order to keep the bearing block 5 low, the pivot axis 8 is located relatively close to the closed end 9 of the tub 3.

Swiveling the arrangement up into the position according to FIG. 2 ensures that paint residues and cleaning fluid run off properly. The cleaning liquid is supplied in a manner not shown from the end 9 of the tub 3 through the spray tube 4 and possibly by means of further spray tubes provided on the outside of the template 11 in a known manner. The drive of the cleaning brushes 1, 2, which is also not shown, is advantageously only switched on when the paint accumulations in the lower area of the stencil 11 near the brush have been eliminated. However, the entire cleaning process, including the rotation and external cleaning of the template 11 by the brushes 1, 2 rotating at different speeds, can already start while the tub 3 is being swung up. During the swiveling down of the tub, however, no further cleaning water is preferably supplied in order to avoid water accumulations in the region of the lower end ring of the template 11. During the swiveling down, however, the template can be air-dried, for example.
