Description

The invention relates to a container made of sheet metal, such as a bucket, hobbock or the like, which has a press-in cover and in which the container edge is rolled out in a circular manner to the outside. The lid has an outwardly bent, U-shaped cross-section, open at the bottom and receiving a seal, the outer leg of which is rolled out at the lower end. The curl on the lid side has a smaller radius than the curl of the container edge. The two curls are close together. A profiled clamping ring which is open radially inwards has two legs, the upper one lies against the U-flange of the cover; the lower leg is - perpendicular to the container axis - below the two curls - the container edge curl and the lid edge curl. The clamping ring has a toggle lever clamp, with which a sealing ring can be compressed, which is arranged between the downwardly open U-edge flange of the lid and the container edge curl. As a result, the U-edge flange of the lid and the edge curl of the container are pressed together due to the action of the toggle clamp. Such a container with curl and toggle lever lock shows DE-U 19 87 042 and essentially equally DE-U 86 16 478.

Compared to this prior art, it is the object of the invention to give the container an (even) better dimensional stability and thus to ensure a more reliable tightness of the closure - even under high external loads.

This is achieved with the technical teaching of claim 1.

The invention adopts three key starting points on the edge of the container and the edge of the lid and is supported by a particularly stable design of the rolling edge of the container, which is designed in a spiral shape with a fixed flank pressure. The first two close points of contact between the clamping ring are - in the direction of the container axis - furthest down at the edge curl of Push-in lid and container. They lie in a common plane, oriented perpendicular to the axis of the container. In the closed state of the container, the clamping ring also curves closely with its inner surface around the lid edge curl and lies flush against part of the circularly curved U-edge flange of the lid (third point of contact). When tensioning the clamping rings, not only are the lid edge and border pressed together in the direction of the container axis to deform the sealing ring, but at the same time the outer limb of the lid edge is pressed against the stiffened container border with high flank pressure via the lower edge curl. Due to the relative position of the curl, the lower end of the leg is elastically deformed inward below the leveling middle. This results in an extraordinarily high dimensional stability of the entire connection; Forces acting on the clamping ring from outside - no matter where they attack - are transferred to the dimensionally stable container flange by direct and extensive contact. On all sides, the parts that lie opposite it are reliably supported on it. The frictional forces also contribute significantly to the dimensional stability of this connection. The closure is given such a high dimensional stability and such a high resistance to deformation that it can withstand even large external loads - without the risk of damage or loosening of the tension ring or even a leak in the connection.

In contrast, the container with the locking ring according to EP-A-167 183 shows a different relative position of the border and the outer edge curl of the lid, which accordingly also cooperate differently with the clamping ring shown there. In addition, the rim of the container in the location mentioned is not as dimensionally stable as the invention ensures. Finally, the edge curl of the downward facing leg of the lid is also not curled.

A spiral border also already shows DE-U 88 00 907.6, but none in the sense of the invention, because the spiral curl of the container shown in the prior art is an open spiral curl that has no flank pressure, so that a folding ring or the application of one folds over Clamping ring would deform the open spiral curl as desired, without being able to guarantee a stable hold. The extent to which this deformation can take shape is shown by way of example in DE-A 37 14 890.7 with its FIG. 3 there.

Claim 2 specifies a specific concrete shape for the teaching according to the invention (claim 1) in that the free inner edge of the container edge curl extends below the median plane of this edge curl. The central plane runs transversely to the container axis (claim 2). A diameter ratio claims 3; the edge curl of the lid and container can differ by a factor of 2. Is proposed with claim 4, an O-sealing ring, which is circular in the relaxed state, but which circular shape it leaves when it is pressed together by means of a clamping ring and its trapezoidal cross-section.

The invention is explained in more detail below with the aid of schematic drawings using an exemplary embodiment.

The parts of the container are made of sheet metal. The container 1 has a fuselage 12, the edge region of which is rolled outward in a spiral shape to form a rolled edge 13, the spiral regions of which lie firmly against one another under flank pressure and firmly abut against the fuselage wall 12 in the transition region. The free edge 14 of the spiral extends a predetermined length 15 beyond the horizontal central plane 16 of the rolled edge 13.

The lid 2 has an arbitrarily shaped lid mirror 3, which merges via a shoulder 10 into a core wall 4, which engages in the cylindrical body 12 with friction when the container is closed. The core wall 4 is adjoined by a U-shaped edge flange 5 which is open at the bottom and whose upper region 6 is curved in a circular arc and merges into a cylindrical leg 7 on the outside. The edge region of the leg 7 is shaped outwards into an edge curl 8.

A sealing ring, for example an O-ring 11, is inserted in the edge flange of the cover 2, as shown in FIG.

When closing the container, the lid is pressed so far into the container body that, on the one hand, the sealing ring 11 almost completely fills the space between the rolled edge 13 and the edge flange 5, as shown in FIG. 1, and that the lower edge 9 of the edge curl 8 or 17 of the rolled edge 13 lie in a common plane 18 running perpendicular to the container axis.

In the preferred embodiment, the diameter of the edge curl 8 is significantly smaller than the diameter of the rolled edge. The curl is preferably only half as large or even smaller than the rolled edge 13. Both come to lie next to one another in the radial direction in the closed position, the leg 7 in the closed position being firmly pressed against the outer circumference of the rolled edge 13 or pressed against it becomes.

A clamping ring 19 is used for this purpose. In the preferred embodiment, this has an approximately trapezoidal profile. Its lower leg 20 extends tangentially to the lower regions 9 and 17 of the edge curl 8 or the rolled edge 13 and lies against these parts with flank pressure. From the lower leg 20, the profile of the clamping ring 19 curves tightly under flank pressure around the edge curl 8, as shown at 21 or over a partial circumference of the arcuate part 6 of the edge flange 6, as shown at 23. Here, too, the clamping ring lies against the edge flange 5 under flank pressure. Both curved regions 21 and 23 are connected to one another by a straight profile section 22. From the curved area 23, the upper leg 24 of the clamping ring extends radially inward and slightly inclined upward and in the preferred embodiment over the core wall 4, so that the free edge 25 of the leg 24 is closer to the container axis than the core wall 4. Die free edge of the lower leg 22 is at 26 - possibly under the deformation shown - pressed against the fuselage wall 12.

The trapezoidal shape of the clamping ring provides the clamping ring with a high degree of dimensional stability. This is considerably reinforced by the profile of the edge flange 5 and the rolled edge 13, both in the axial direction and in the radial direction. The total cross section of the connection area thus has a very high resistance to deformation, so that the new container can safely absorb high external loads caused by falling or impact, without the connection area being deformed or damaged and without the risk that the clamping ring 19 detaches from the connection area .
