Abstract

An apparatus for cleaning escalator steps having grooved front surfaces cleans during the operation of the escalator. A brush extending across the entire width of each step is positioned under the rear edge of the tread. The bristles of the brush press against the front surface of the adjacent step when the steps are in predetermined regions of the escalator. The relative motion of the steps as they move from the horizontal to the inclined and back to the horizontal regions creates a relative vertical motion between the brush and the front surface for the cleaning of the front surface. The front surface thus is cleaned twice per revolution of the step conveyor by being moved against the brush bristles, once from top to bottom and once from bottom to top, practically across the entire height of the step.

Description

The invention relates to a cleaning device for the steps of an escalator, with at least one brush projecting over the entire width of a step.

The cleaning of the escalators, especially the treads and the end faces of the steps, which both have ribs and grooves, is particularly complex if, despite the large amount of dirt, cleaning is only carried out at large intervals. Part of the dirt that is deposited on the steps is probably tipped into a dirt trough in the upper or lower deflection station, especially in dry weather, depending on the direction in which the escalator is running. Part of the dirt can get stuck in the grooves and is difficult to remove. For this reason, various devices for cleaning escalators, in particular escalator steps, have already been constructed and have been put into practical use with more or less success.

With DE-OS 37 04 388 such a cleaning device for the steps of escalators has become known, which is provided as an independent transportable unit. The cleaning device consists of a support bracket with a rocker, on which an electric motor and a rotatably mounted brush roller, which can be driven via a V-belt, is installed. In addition, a suction device can be provided in the immediate vicinity of the brush roller, with which the brushed dirt is immediately suctioned off. To clean the steps, the cleaning device is set down with the carrying console when the escalator is stationary, for example on the lowest raised step. The rocker is directed against the higher neighboring step with the brush roller. When the engine is on, the The rotating brush roller is pressed manually onto the front surface of the neighboring step with the help of the rocker, raised at this and guided over the horizontal step surface. The grooved end face and the grooved tread of this step are cleaned by a suitably designed brush roller down to the groove base and the brushed dust is sucked off. For the cleaning of the next step, the cleaning device is placed on the cleaned step surface and again the higher neighboring step is cleaned, etc., until all the steps visible in the inclined lead of the escalator are cleaned. So that all the steps of the entire step belt can be cleaned, the step belt is moved forward step by step by briefly switching on the escalator and cleaned as described above until all steps of the escalator are cleaned. A disadvantage of this device is that a relatively unwieldy cleaning device is required for cleaning, which has to be carried around on the escalator, that cleaning can only take place outside of the operating hours, and that there is a certain risk of accident if the step belt moves forward in stages the cleaning device remains parked on one step and is not moved away from the escalator. Another disadvantage is that an area on the inner edge between the tread and the end face of a neighboring step is not reached by the round brush roller and can therefore be cleaned insufficiently.

The cleaning device consists of an adjustable base frame with a carrying device mounted on rails with a fixed cleaning brush. Due to the force of springs, the cleaning brush is pressed against the passing steps in the reversal point and the step surface of everyone Step continuously brushed and cleaned when the escalator is switched on.

A disadvantage of this cleaning device is that the end faces of the steps cannot be cleaned because the end faces are not freely accessible in the area of the deflection points.

The invention has for its object to propose a cleaning device with which each end face of the steps can be cleaned continuously.

This object is achieved by the invention characterized in the first claim.

The advantages achieved by the invention can be seen essentially in the fact that each grooved end face of the steps is continuously cleaned when the escalator is switched on. It is therefore not necessary to shut down the stairs and to carry out the cleaning outside of operating hours with the help of portable cleaning devices. Another advantage is that no additional personnel are required to clean the end faces. Another advantage is that cleaning takes place continuously, i.e. immediately after soiling, which prevents any dirt from sticking to the end face.

Each step 1 has a step surface 1.1 and an end surface 1.2. The tread 1.1 and the end face 1.2 are shown in FIG. 2 with grooves 1.4; 1.6 and with ribs 1.5; 1.7 provided. A toothing 1.8 of the rear end of the step surface 1.1 engages in the grooves 1.6 of the end face 1.2. A brush 2 is arranged below the rear end of the tread surface 1.1, which brushes the grooves 1.6 and the ribs 1.7 of the end face 1.2 of the adjacent step 1 with its bristles 3. The brush 2 can be firmly clamped in a holder 4 arranged on the step body or, as a variant, can be slidably mounted. The arrows 5 indicate a running direction of the step belt, while arrow 6 indicates the relative movement of step 1 in order to ensure the horizontal position of the tread surface 1.1 even when the step belt is running at an angle.

In Fig. 3, 7 is the step belt. The step belt has an upper deflection 8 and a lower deflection 9. The individual stages of the step belt 7 are again designated 1. Blow-off devices 10 can be arranged on the upper and / or on the lower deflection 8, 9.

The cleaning device described above works as follows: The brush 2 arranged under the rear end of the step surface 1.1 of a step 1 is directed against the end face 1.2 of an adjacent step 1 when the step 1 is installed in a step belt. If the step is installed in the area of the accessible lead of the step belt, the brush is already in contact with the front surface of the adjacent step during installation. If it is installed in the area of the upper or lower deflection point, there is still no movement between the brush and the end face of the adjacent step Contact. In the case of a complete rotation of the step belt, for example when driving upwards, the following relative movements take place between each brush and the end face of the adjacent step: When moving from the lower deflection station to the lower horizontal run of the advance, the trailing step moves with the brush against the adjacent end face and that at the highest point in order to press against each other horizontally. At the transition from horizontal running to oblique running, the front part of the leading step slides upwards past brush 2 by a relative movement according to arrow 6 to maintain the horizontal position of the tread surface, in order to reach the lowest point of front part 1.2 with brush 2 when running obliquely. The end face 1.2 is cleaned by rubbing with the brush 2 from top to bottom. The position reached between the brush and the end face is maintained during the skew without executing a relative movement. During the transition from skewing to the upper horizontal run, the front part of the leading step slides downward past the brush 2 by a relative movement, again to maintain a horizontal position of the step surface 1.1, in order to again reach the highest point on the end surface 1.2 in the upper horizontal run. The end face is cleaned a second time, this time by rubbing with the brush from bottom to top. The position reached between the brush and the end face is maintained without relative movement during the horizontal run. At the transition from the upper horizontal run to the upper deflection station, the brush and the front parts diverge and no longer touch. In the return between the upper and lower deflection stations, the brush and the front part press against each other again, but a relative movement associated with cleaning the front part no longer takes place. The downward movement results in the same relative movements and cleaning of the end faces as in the upward movement, but in reverse order and direction. The face Each individual stage is thus brushed and cleaned twice per cycle during operation.

It is readily conceivable that in the area of the upper and / or the lower deflection station of the step belt, a pneumatic blow-off device acting on the steps and / or on the brushes is additionally provided, which blows away loosened dirt that has not fallen off in the return of the step belt before the Level reached the accessible lead again.

It is also possible to use the cleaning device according to the application as a supplement to a cleaning device which is only used for cleaning the treads of the steps.
