Abstract

The invention relates to ammunition comprising a launcher (1) and an active charge (2) to be fired from the latter, the active charge being propelled from the launcher with the aid of a propulsive charge (14). According to the invention, it is proposed that the launcher (1) has in the bottom region an electromagnetic coil (6), which can be connected to an electrical supply source and has a movably mounted armature (10), the armature being designed as a striker pin (10) for a percussion cap (13), which fires the propulsive charge (14). In this way, the previously customary electrical ignition of the propulsive charge (14) is replaced by a reliable striker-pin ignition (5). <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to an ammunition consisting of a throwing cup and an active body according to the preamble of claim 1.

B. einen Stellungswechsel vorzunehmen; vgl. etwa die DE-OS 35 01 468.Such ammunition is used primarily for the self-protection of vehicles, in particular main battle tanks. The active bodies, e.g. B. smoke missiles are fired from throwing cups which are attached to the main battle tank in order to generate fog at some distance from the vehicle to be protected and under the protection of this fog z. B. make a change of position; see. such as DE-OS 35 01 468.

Throw cups have contact pins projecting into the cup interior in their lower side area, which are connected to an external electrical supply source via a connection block. In such a throwing cup, the active body is used, which consists of an active charge part with z. B. there is a fog charge and a contact head. A propellant chamber with a propellant charge is provided in the contact head and is electrically ignited. The ignition energy for a squib or the like is supplied to the contact head via the contact pins in the throwing cup and contact rings on the circumference of the contact head. Protection circuits against electromagnetic interference, so-called EMC circuits, are also provided in the contact head. After the propellant charge is ignited, the propellant gases flow out Blow-out openings at the bottom of the active body into the throwing cup, so that the gas pressure which builds up between the bottom of the throwing cup and the active body pushes it out of the throwing cup.

However, the propellant gases contaminate the contact pins, so that they have to be routinely cleaned in order to ensure a clean electrical contact between the contact pins and the contact rings necessary for the ignition of the propellant charge. So far, this problem has not been solved.

The contact head, which contains the propellant chamber with the propellant charge as well as ignition devices for the propellant charge and the EMC circuits, is fired with the active body. The EMC circuits in the contact head, which are used only once, are relatively complex and expensive, since the electrically initiated ignition charge for the propellant charge already reacts to relatively low interference currents. A simpler construction would be desirable to u. a. reduce the manufacturing costs of throwing cups and active bodies.

The previous designs of active bodies are also all based on existing throwing cups and are oriented in such a way that a maximum gas pressure in the range of approximately 13 bar is not exceeded in the throwing cup. At higher gas pressures, the guides of the movable contact pins could be destroyed and the bottom cover of the throwing cup could be blown off. In order to reach or even exceed the minimum throw distances with such gas pressures, special designs of the drive chamber and the blow-out openings are necessary; see. DE-OS 35 01 468. With higher gas pressures, which were not yet tolerable by throwing cups, and which also allowed simpler constructions of the drive chamber and the blow-out openings, the same or further throwing distances of the active bodies could be achieved.

All known solutions only incompletely meet the stated objectives.

The invention is therefore based on the object of specifying a simpler construction for an ammunition consisting of a throwing cup and active body, with which these objectives can be achieved, that is, in particular, reliability of contact in the ignition of the propellant charge, achieving long throw ranges, low susceptibility to electromagnetic interference and low manufacturing costs. Furthermore, the aim is to be able to retrofit throwing cups used without great effort.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the features specified in the characterizing part of patent claim 1.

The essential idea of the invention is accordingly to replace the previously usual ignition of the propellant charge by means of an electrically initiated ignition charge by firing a firing pin. The firing of charges by firing bolts is of course known. In the present case, ie the ignition of a propellant charge to eject a real charge, e.g. B. a smoke missile, firing a firing pin or percussion ignition brings surprising advantages.

The electrical connections for the actuation of the firing pin are not, like the previous contact pins, soiled by the propellant gases of the propellant charge when the active body is shot, since the propellant gases do not reach these connections. An ignition of the propellant charge is therefore always guaranteed.

The active body does not need its own contact head, which reduces the production costs for the ammunition.

EMV-Schaltungen sind nicht notwendig, da der Schlagbolzen als Anker der Elektromagnetspule nur mit hohen, durch Störimpulse nicht erreichbaren Stromstößen bewegt werden kann.EMC circuits are not necessary because the firing pin as the armature of the electromagnetic coil can only be moved with high current surges that cannot be reached by interference pulses.

The active body can also be inserted into a cartridge case, the cartridge case then remaining in the throw cup when the active body is ejected from it. The advantage here is that the gas pressure generated by the propellant only acts between the active charge and the cartridge case, but not on the throwing cup. This only has to absorb the recoil forces due to the acceleration of the active body. The active body can thereby be expelled at significantly higher gas pressures than was previously possible. With such a construction, the throwing cup remains closed after firing and cannot be soiled.

Further embodiments of the invention emerge from the subclaims.

The invention is explained in more detail in exemplary embodiments with reference to the drawing. In this represent:
  • Figure 1 is a partially sectioned view of an ammunition from the throwing cup and active body according to a first embodiment of the invention.
  • Figure 2 is a partially sectioned view of a modified embodiment of a throwing cup.
  • 3 shows a partially sectioned active body for firing from a throwing cup;
  • 4 shows an active body designed as a cartridge ammunition.

The ammunition shown in Fig. 1 consists of a cylindrical shot cup 1 and an active body 2 inserted therein, for. B. a smoke missile. The throwing cup 1 is closed at the bottom with a screwable bottom cover 3 which is designed in the manner of a can and in the interior 4 of which a firing pin igniter 5 is arranged. The firing pin igniter has an electromagnetic coil 6 which is wound on a coil carrier 7 and which is connected via a control circuit 8 to electrical connections 9 which lead to a supply source (not shown). A firing pin 10 is provided as the armature of the electromagnetic coil 6, which is mounted in the central bore of the coil carrier 7 and in the region of its tip in a bore 11 a survey 12 is performed on the top of the bottom cover 3. The longitudinal axis of the firing pin 10 lies in the central longitudinal axis A of the throwing cup and the smoke projectile. The base of the smoke throwing body 2 lies on the top of the elevation 12 and there carries an ignition cap 13 for a propellant charge 14, which is only indicated.

If the electromagnetic coil 6 is activated, the firing pin 10 snaps in the direction of the primer 13 and initiates this, as a result of which the propellant charge 14 is ignited. The propellant gases generated during the combustion of the propellant charge 14 emerge from blow-out openings 15 into the free space between the underside of the mist launcher 2 and the top of the base cover 3 in the throwing cup 1, so that a gas pressure is generated here which ejects the mist throwing body 2 from the throwing cup 1. The propellant gases do not reach the area of the electrical connections for the electromagnetic coil, so that they are not contaminated by propellant gases.

In Fig. 2, a throw cup 1a is shown, which is similar to conventional throw cups except for the bottom cover 3a. This throw cup has a connection block 21 in the lower side area, which is connected via electrical connections 8 to an electrical supply source, not shown. In the connection block 21, matching and EMC circuits are provided which connect the electrical connections 9 to two contact pins 22 which protrude into the interior of the throwing cup 1a. The bottom cover 3a, which is constructed in the same way with respect to the firing pin ignition as the bottom cover 3 according to FIG. 1, has one of its The outgoing cylindrical web 23, which is provided on its periphery with two contact rings 24 which are in electrical contact with the contact pins 22. Cables (not shown) lead from the contact rings 24 to the electromagnetic coil of the firing pin igniter.

This embodiment has the advantage that conventional throwing cups can be converted to a firing pin ignition according to the invention simply by replacing the bottom cover with a modified bottom cover 3a.

In Fig. 3, a smoke missile 2 is shown, which can be shot from throwing cups according to FIGS. 1 and 2. The mist launcher 2, which is usually covered with a rubber cap 31, has on its bottom a downward-pointing cylindrical extension 32, which lies on the elevation 12 of the bottom cover 3 when the launcher is inserted. The primer 13 and the propellant charge 14 are provided in the cylindrical extension 32. Several blow-out openings 15 are placed around the primer 13. The propellant charge 14 also ignites a delay charge 33, only indicated here, with which the active charge contained in the throwing body 2, e.g. B. a fog salt is ignited.

It consists of a sleeve 41, for. B. made of steel and a smoke charge body 42 inserted therein, containing an active charge. The sleeve and smoke body are sealed on their upper side with a rubber cap 31. In the flat bottom of the sleeve 41 the primer 13 is inserted in the center, by means of which the propellant charge 14 arranged in the bottom of the sleeve 41 is ignited. In the throwing body 42 there is in turn an only indicated delay charge 33 for the active charge of the active body, which is ignited by the propellant charge 14.

To shoot the ammunition shown from the sleeve 41 and active body 42 is inserted into a shot cup. The rubber cap surrounds the upper edge of the throwing cup with an edge region 31a. Along the upper edge of the active body 42, the rubber cap has a punch cut or a predetermined breaking point 43, so that the rubber cap is divided into edge region 31a and a cover region 31b. If the primer cap 13 is ignited by the firing pin igniter, the propellant charge 14 burns off and generates a gas pressure between the bottom of the sleeve 41 and the active body 42, through which the active body 42 with the cover region 31b of the rubber cap 31 is expelled from the sleeve 41. The sleeve 41 remains in the throw cup when it is fired, the edge region 31a of the rubber cap 31 also remaining in place and continuing to close the throw cup. The inside of the throwing cup cannot be contaminated by rain or dirt. Before the next launch, the sleeve 41 is removed from the throwing cup and a new cartridge ammunition consisting of the sleeve and the active body is inserted. With such a construction, the active body 42 can be ejected at high gas pressures.
