- This manual process involves the mobilization of at least one operator for a non-negligible time and requires a certain dexterity on its part because the operation of the support bars can be damaging for the products, the leaves in particular risking being scratched.

- the invention therefore essentially relates to a device for supplying sheet material, said sheets being stacked on an openwork tray, of the type comprising a lifting mechanism capable of supporting such a tray loaded with sheets and a mechanism temporary support for supporting a certain number of sheets during a tray change, characterized in that said support mechanism comprises a plurality of bars linked to or forming part of respective jacks capable of moving them in their own longitudinal directions under said sheets in interstices of a said plate and in that said jacks are carried by respective mobile equipment arranged to place said bars opposite such respective interstices.

- the sheet feeding device 11 comprises an elevating mechanism of which only a base 12 has been shown, subject to moving vertically (under the action of any suitable mechanical means), a fixed stop 13 and a movable stop 14, both perpendicular to the direction of distribution (indicated by the arrow F) of the sheets 15 and two lateral flanges 17, 18 parallel to said direction of distribution and the positioning of which is adjustable according to the format of the sheets 15 Distribution means, not shown, are arranged at the upper part of the device for picking up the sheets one by one and discharging them in the direction of the arrow F.
- the base 12 receives a stack of sheets 15; this pile is conventionally placed on a wooden skeleton 21, commonly called a pallet.

- the free end 30 of the bar 26 acts as a probe capable of coming into contact with one side of a plate 21 during a movement of the corresponding moving element 29. To this end, this end 30 can be rounded, as shown, or provided with a roller.
- each bar 26 is provided with a plurality of rollers 31 arranged to come into contact with the sheets and thus avoid scratches. As can be seen in Figure 2, the rollers 31 are mounted along the bar 26 alternately projecting upward and downward.

- each bar 26 can therefore move along a certain stroke while remaining in contact with the edge of a plate 21 (when the latter has reached the level of the bars 26) and means for supplying actuating fluid are arranged to apply at the actuator 27 a low pressure during the displacement of the movable assembly, that is to say during part of the stroke of the corresponding actuator 35 and a high pressure at the end of a probing phase.

- the end of a probing phase is determined by detection means 38 sensitive to the stroke of the jack 27.
- the jack 27 is supplied by one or the other of two compressed air sources, a low pressure source BP and a high pressure source HP, via a three-way solenoid valve 40 controlled by a control unit 41 of the electromechanical type or another whose design is within the reach of the skilled person.
- the detection means 38 comprise, for example, a cam 42 whose position is representative of the longitudinal displacement of the bar 26, and a sensor 45, for example a simple electromechanical contactor, placed to be actuated by the cam and electrically connected to control the control unit 41.
- the output of the latter is also connected to the control input of a solenoid valve 46 controlling the isolation of the jack 35 from its control pressure and its simultaneous venting.
- the detection means 38 are combined with fluid switching means (40, 41) connected to supply the jack 27 at a low pressure or at a high pressure.
- the pressure switching takes place as soon as the bar 26 has engaged, during probing, by a predetermined distance in a gap of a plate.
- the moving element is controlled by or operates in synchronism with the fluidic switching means, so as to stop the actuator 35 from displacement of the assembly constituted by the jack 27 and the bar 26 substantially simultaneously with the admission of the high pressure into the jack 27.
- the jacks 35 define the starting positions for the bars 26, these positions being the closest to the fixed and mobile stops 13, 14.
- the starting position is fixed for the mobile equipment located in the side of the fixed stop 13 and "floating" depending on the format of the sheets, for the mobile equipment located on the side of the mobile stop 14.
- each actuator 35 located on the side of the mobile stop has two opposite rods, l 'one supporting the cylinder 27 and the other forming a reference probe 48 coming into contact with the movable stop 14.
- the assembly is completed by four retractable fingers 49 which deploy in the vicinity of the edges of the sheets. Two opposite fingers are provided, arranged in the direction of the distribution axis and two others in a perpendicular direction, between the bars 26.
- the operation is as follows.
- the latter is then discharged and replaced by a new battery, supported by another tray.
- the base is raised until the top of the stack is again at the level of the support bars 26.
- the bars are then removed by actuating the jacks 27 so that the last sheets of the previous stack come to rest on the new stack. The distribution process is thus practically undisturbed.
