Claims (14)

  1. A modular electrical operating and protecting device such as a circuit breaker or differential circuit breaker containing, in a modular type casing, at least one contact assembly consisting of a fixed contact and a movable contact, an arc chamber (5) at the level of the contact zone, a bimetallic release (15, 126) and at the level of one (1; 101) of the interconnecting terminals of the casing, a conductive member (8; 108) which is constructed in one piece by cutting and bending and which has: a part (9; 109) for connection to the terminal (1; 101), a flexibly deformable lug (12; 124) situated opposite a regulating screw (18; 119) and receiving the end of the bimetallic member (15, 126), and an elongate and incurvate part (21, 22; 129, 130) forming a switching electrode, characterised in that the said conductive member (8; 108) has at least one first preferred deformation zone (10; 122) disposed between the said connecting part (9; 109) and a conductive part (11, 123) carrying the said lug (12, 124) receiving the end of the bimetallic member (15, 126), the said zone allowing deformations about a geometrical axis parallel with the large sides of the casing of the device, so that torsion stresses occurring in the connecting part (9; 109) upon clamping of the terminal (1, 101), cannot be transmitted to the lug (12, 124) which accommodates the end of the bimetallic member (15, 126).
  2. A device according to claim 1, characterised in that the connecting part (9; 109) takes the form of a blade which at one of its edges extends through the said first preferred deformation zone (10; 122), by the said conductive part (11; 123) dividing on the one hand into the said lug (12; 124) which accommodates the end of the bimetallic member (15, 126) and on the other into the said elongate part (21, 22 - 129, 130).
  3. A device according to one of claims 1 and 2, characterised in that the said connecting part (9) is fixed against a lug (23) on a part (26) of the terminal (1), the said part (26) of the terminal (1) bearing on a relief (27) on the casing.
  4. A device according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the said regulating screw (18) is screwed into a nut (16) held in a housing (17) in the casing.
  5. A device according to one of claims 3 and 4, characterised in that the said connecting part (9) is parallel with the large faces of the casing and is connected to the rest of the conductive member (8) by a bend forming the said first preferred deformation zone (10), the said connecting part (9) being welded against the lug (23), the said lug (23) being off-centre from the terminal (1) and connected to the rest of the terminal by a bend (24).
  6. A device according to claim 5, characterised in that the said lug (23) on the terminal (1) comprises a notch (25).
  7. A device according to one of claims 1 and 2, characterised in that the connecting part (109) is in the form of a blade which at one of its edges is extended by a lug (115) which accommodates the regulating screw (119) and on another edge, at right-angles to the first, via the said first preferred deformation zone (122), via the said conductive part (123).
  8. A device according to claim 7, characterised in that the said lug (115) which accommodates the regulating screw (119) has a female screw thread (118) and comprises a portion of reduced width (116) and of angular shape which forms a second preferred deformation zone permitting deformations about a geometrical axis at right-angles to the large surfaces of the casing of the device and about another axis at right-angles to that mentioned previously.
  9. A device according to any one of claims 2 to 8, characterised in that the said first preferred deformation zone (122) disposed between the said conductive part (123) carrying the said lug (124) which accommodates the end of the bimetallic member (126) and the said connecting part (109) comprises a part (120) provided with a cut-out (121) defining arms of reduced widths (122).
  10. A device according to one of claims 8 or 9, characterised in that the lug (115) which accommodates the adjusting screw (119) is, upon assembly, inserted into a casing part which substantially permits the said lug (115) to be locked in all three spatial directions, the reduced width part (116) forming the second preferred deformation zone being free, the conductive part (123) carrying the lug (124) which receives the end of the bimetallic member (126) being likewise locked in all three spatial directions.
  11. A device according to claims 9 and 10 taken in combination, characterised in that in one of the spatial directions, locking is accomplished by a nipple penetrating the cut-out (121).
  12. A device according to any one of claims 9 to 11, characterised in that the conductive part (123) carrying the lug (124) which accommodates the end of the bimetallic member (126) extends in front of and parallel with the connecting part (109), being connected thereto by the said first preferred deformation zone (122) which is cut out and which is itself connected respectively at two parallel edges, one of which belongs to the said connecting part (109) while the other belongs to the said conductive part (123), this latter extending, after a bend (127), via the said elongate and incurvate part (129, 130) forming the switching electrode (130).
  13. A device according to any one of claims 8 to 12, characterised in that the said conductive member (108) is obtained by cutting out and bending a strip of metal plate, the adjusting screw (119) being disposed in a position for pre-setting the bimetallic member (126).
  14. A device according to any one of claims 1 to 13, characterised in that the connecting part (109) comprises notches (111, 112) co-operating with notches (113, 114) in the corresponding terminal (101) in order to be assembled together with and welded against the said terminal.
