Description

The invention relates to a packaging, in particular under vacuum, for products releasing moisture when they are enclosed in the packaging, particularly for food products such as cold meats such as slices of ham, or meat, the packaging comprising an advantageously waterproof envelope made of a transparent material.

Packages of this type are widely known, but have the major drawback that the moisture released by the product and thus enclosed in the sealed envelope condenses. The product then bathes inside the envelope in a liquid, which reduces the shelf life of the product and deteriorates its quality. In addition, the presence of the liquid gives the product a less attractive appearance and forces the consumer to open the envelope, taking great care to prevent the liquid from causing damage. Even after the product is removed from the envelope, the humidity on the surface of the product gives it an appearance making it less appetizing in the eyes of the consumer.

The present invention aims to provide a packaging of the type stated above, which does not have the drawbacks which have just been exposed.

To achieve this object, a package according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises, disposed between said envelope and the external surface of the product, on at least part of it, a layer of a material which absorbs the moisture from the product packed and transparent at least after absorption of moisture.

According to an advantageous characteristic of the invention, the layer of this material consists of a sheet of paper of the tissue paper type, the grammage of which is chosen so that it becomes transparent under the effect of the absorbed moisture.

According to another advantageous characteristic of the invention, the absorbent material has been bonded beforehand to the material forming the envelope.

  • La figure 1 est une vue schématique en coupe d'un emballage selon la présente invention ;
The invention will be better understood and other objects, characteristics, details and advantages thereof will appear more clearly during the explanatory description which follows, made with reference to the appended schematic drawings given solely by way of example illustrating a mode of the invention and in which:
  • Figure 1 is a schematic sectional view of a package according to the present invention;
  • Figure 2 is a top view of a strip of transparent material forming a packaging envelope carrying sheets of moisture absorbing material according to the invention; and
  • Figure 3 is a sectional view along line III-III of Figure 2.

Referring to FIG. 1, it can be seen that product 1, for example a certain number of slices of ham, is enclosed, hermetically, in an envelope sealed closed 2. The packaging of the product 1 is made for example under vacuum, in a manner known per se. According to the invention, between the free upper and lower surfaces of the product 1 and the envelope 2, a sheet 3 is respectively disposed of a material which has a large suitable moisture absorption capacity and is completely transparent, at least after have absorbed the moisture released by the product.

It has been found that tissue has the two properties of absorbing moisture and becoming transparent after absorption. Thus all the parts of the tissue which are in contact with the product become completely transparent. Therefore, when the sheets 3 are placed as shown in Figure 1, the packaging is completely transparent and the sheets of tissue paper 3 are invisible to the consumer.

Of course, the grammage of the paper should be adapted to the amount of moisture which will be released from the product 1, inside the envelope 2, so that the paper can absorb all of this moisture. the grammage of the paper is to be chosen accordingly and is advantageously between 20 and 25 g / m² depending on the paper used. By choosing a too high grammage, the paper becomes too dense and has a somewhat grayish appearance. The paper is not completely transparent after absorbing the moisture. On the other hand, it could be advantageous to subject the material forming the tissue paper to a bleaching treatment to improve, if necessary, its transparency property after the absorption of moisture. However, you must avoid the paper become too white as this would give it a milky appearance inside the packaging and make the paper visible. It is therefore by appropriately determining the two parameters formed by the grammage and the bleaching that a completely transparent packaging can be obtained, depending on the nature and dimensions of the product to be packaged.

To make a packaging as shown in Figure 1, one could lay sheets of tissue paper cut to the appropriate size on surfaces, for example upper and lower of the product and subsequently perform the vacuum packaging operation in the 'envelope 2. It is noted when opening such a packaging that the sheets of paper 3 tend to remain stuck on the plastic forming the envelope 2 under the effect of moisture which accumulates between the envelope and paper.

The sheets 3 could also be fixed, for example by gluing to the surface of a ribbon of the transparent material forming the envelope, before the vacuum packaging operation of the product therein. This fixation could be done in any suitable way. Of course when the fixing is done by gluing, it is advisable to use an adhesive material which is compatible with the product and the liquid which it gives off and does not in any way affect the food qualities thereof. Any other way of fixing can however be applied.

Of course, any material other than tissue paper can be used provided that this material satisfies the two conditions, namely that it absorbs moisture and is transparent, or in its natural state, either after absorption of moisture. By choosing an appropriate thickness of the interposition sheet between the product and the outer envelope generally made of transparent plastic, it can be obtained that all the moisture which could be released by the product is absorbed, without this causing drying of the product, at its parts in contact with the absorbent material.

The invention thus provides a packaging which could be entirely transparent, insofar as the absorbent material is completely transparent, that is to say invisible to the eye of the consumer.
