Definitions
- the present invention relates to a snap hinge closure made of plastic with a lower part and an upper part integrally connected therewith via at least one hinge, which is designed as a cap or lid, and an elastically deformable element which is operatively connected to the two parts during the closing and opening process and which produces the snap action .
- closures have been available on the market for several years and in numerous design forms. Examples of such closures include only those described in U.S. Patents 3,629,901, 4,386,714 and 4,573,600.
- Closures make up an essential part of the packaging of a product. Depending on the type and shape of the container on which the closure is to be attached, and depending on the functional requirements of the closure, the construction must be adapted accordingly. The physical properties of the product to be packaged also influence the design of a closure. Finally, the closure also has the function of individualizing the packaged product. All of these requirements have resulted in a huge number of differently designed closures. Plastic closures are used in typical mass production produced. This entails high initial costs for the development and manufacture of the molds required for injection molding. This is in direct contradiction to the desired variety, which rather forces a reduction in the number of pieces required.
- the present invention achieves both of the above-mentioned objects with a snap hinge closure made of plastic with a lower part and an upper part integrally connected to it via at least one hinge, which is designed as a cap or lid, and an elastically deformable, which is operatively connected to both parts during the closing and opening process.
- the element producing the snap action which is characterized in that the lower part, with the omission of an end surface with a spout, merely consists of a circumferential ring wall, on which form-locking means are provided for attachment to a container or an adapter piece, so that the lower part and the upper part can be produced one above the other in the closed position .
- the solution which has a surprisingly large scope, lies in the ingeniously simple idea of omitting the usually always present, more or less large end surface on the lower part, which contains the spout. This creates space so that the lower tool part can form the entire inner surface of the closure. For the first time, this enables the snap hinge closure to be produced in the closed position.
- the two main components 1, 2, which are connected to one another in one piece, namely the cylindrical lower part 1 and the essentially gable-shaped upper part 2, can be clearly seen in the side views according to FIGS. 1 to 3 , which is used to open the closure using thumb pressure.
- the separating surface T runs exactly on the upper edge of the lower part 1. This separating surface T is also shown again in broken lines in the sectional drawing according to FIG.
- the lower part 1 consists essentially of an annular wall, from the inside of which a plurality of beads 4 arranged in a circle protrude. These beads 4 serve as positive locking means, which are suitable for fastening the closure on a correspondingly shaped container. As will be explained later, these beads 4 can also do this serve to hold an adapter, which is inserted, which in turn establishes the connection with the container on which the closure is to be placed.
- Upper part 2 and lower part 1 are connected to one another via a film hinge 7 located in the separating surface T.
- the lower part 1 and upper part can be pivoted relative to one another around this film hinge 7.
- the film hinge 7 actually disintegrates into two parts, which are elastically deformable on both sides and produce the snap action Element 8 lie.
- this element 8 consists of a curved, relatively thick, resilient plate, each of which is connected to the upper part 2 on the one hand and to the lower part 1 on the other hand via a film hinge.
- the film hinge 9 producing the connection with the upper part 2 lies at least approximately in the separating surface T, while the film hinge 10 forming the connection with the lower part 1 lies at least approximately vertically below the previously described film hinge 7.
- the pivot point moves between the element 8 and the upper part 2 over the pivot axis formed by the film hinge 7, the element 8 being stretched and thus developing the force required for the snap process.
- one or more bridges lying in the separating surface T can be attached between the upper and lower part. In this way, the closure can also easily guarantee the integrity of the packaged product.
- the closure is shown placed on a tube.
- the container is labeled B.
- the resilient element 8 is arranged relatively close to the film hinge 7, which connects the upper and lower part, and can therefore be made correspondingly smaller. The other, otherwise the same parts will not be discussed further.
- Figure 7 shows a preferred solution.
- An adaptation piece 20 is inserted into the actual snap hinge closure, which merely represents an enlarged variant corresponding to the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 5. This is a simple, completely symmetrical part that can be injection molded with an inexpensive shape.
- This adaptation piece has the otherwise usual horizontal end wall 21 with a central, spout-shaped spout 22.
- This adapter piece 20 is used to connect the closure with a container B '.
- Such an adapter 20 can be adapted to the neck of the container. Of course, it can be made in any color, even in a color that differs from the color of the actual closure, and thus serves in the simplest way to individualize the product to be packaged.
- FIG. 8 only serves to illustrate the multitude of different design forms of the closure.
- the separation surface between upper part 2 and lower part 1 is graduated. This makes it possible to move the actual snap hinge from the area of the periphery to the center.
- the film hinge 7 connecting the two main parts 1 and 2 is now in the vertical region of the separating surface T.
- FIG. 9 a variant of the closure is shown in which the elastically deformable element 8, which produces the snap action, is a stretched tension band which is in the area its elastic deformation when opening and closing the closure is stretched.
- FIG. 8 A further variant of the snap hinge is shown in FIG.
- the element 8 which produces the resilient effect is designed here in the form of a lever once bent. This toggle lever is stretched to a greater or lesser extent when the lock is opened or closed.
- the wall areas 12 adjacent to element 8, the toggle lever can be designed flexibly. The easiest way to do this is by reducing the wall thickness or by making slots.
- the adapter piece 20 can be made from polyethylene. Snap hinge closures must be created because of the strength and the stresses of the element producing the spring elastic effect, as well as because of the film hinges made of polypropylene. This material is relatively hard. If the adapter piece is now made from the softer polyethylene, this results in a better seal. However, this results in further advantages, such an adapter can be welded directly to the film of a tube and ultimately this also results in cost savings because polyethylene is about 20-30% cheaper than polypropylene.
- the snap hinge closure according to the invention can have all additional elements that can otherwise also be attached to conventional snap hinge closures. In particular, only appropriate guarantee bands are mentioned here.
Abstract
Description
- Fig. 1-3 ein Ausführungsbeispiel des erfindungsgemässen Verschlusses in verschiedenen Seitenansichten;
- Fig. 4 einen Schnitt durch den nämlichen Verschluss entlang der Linie A-A von Figur 1;
- Fig. 5 einen Schnitt entlang der Linie B-B von Figur 4;
- Fig. 6 zeigt ein weiteres Ausführungsbeispiel in Form eines ähnlichen Verschlusses in montiertem Zustand mit einem anderen Schnappscharnier;
- Fig. 7 verdeutlicht die Möglichkeit einer Variante mit eingeschobenem Adapterstück;
- Fig. 8 zeigt, wie die Trennfläche zwischen Ober- und Unterteil auch abgewinkelt sein kann;
- Fig. 9 stellt rein schematisch noch eine weitere Ausgestaltung des Schnappscharniers mit einem Spannband dar;
