Definitions
- the invention relates to an adjustable propeller for watercraft, which is rotatably mounted on an outboard-supported, pivotable support body and is driven by an engine via a drive connection, the propeller blades of which are rotatably mounted in a propeller hub fastened to a drive shaft at the end of the drive connection and by an adjusting device are adjustable with different pitch angles, the adjusting device being designed as a mechanism rotating with the propeller hub and being integrated into the propeller hub and having a manually operable handle arranged on the outflow side, with which the desired position of the propeller blades can be set via a synchronous flange.
- Variable pitch propellers have long been used as drive means for watercraft. They essentially consist of propeller blades rotatably mounted in a propeller hub, on which the pitch of the propeller blades can be adjusted. Two propeller blades are usually used for small drive powers and three, four and more propeller blades for larger drive powers. The different embodiments of the variable pitch propellers differ, apart from the number of propeller blades, only by the type of adjusting device for the pitch adjustment of the propeller blades.
- the adjustment devices for the variable pitch propellers include hydrostatic thrust piston drives, which are located inside the drive shaft and the propeller hub are housed.
- hydrostatic thrust piston drives which are located inside the drive shaft and the propeller hub are housed.
- mechanical adjustment devices are used in which the propeller blades are adjusted by push rods, which act eccentrically on the base of the propeller blade.
- the push rods themselves are moved back and forth via a mechanical linkage in the direction of the axis of the propeller hub.
- the adjustment force can be applied either manually or using a linear motor.
- variable pitch propellers have only been used in certain categories of watercraft, since even with the simplest construction, the price for certain categories of watercraft is still too high.
- a generic adjustable propeller has already been proposed, the propeller blades of which can be adjusted with a manually operated handle (US-A-25 74 951).
- the synchronous flange of the adjusting device has a toothed ring which engages in assigned toothed ring sections on the feet of the propeller blades.
- a fine adjustment of the propeller pitch cannot be achieved with such a simple ring gear drive.
- the handle is fixed with the help of a nut, and an additional undesired adjustment of the propeller blades can hardly be avoided.
- a spindle-like adjustment device US-A-29 53 208
- a sensitive and precise adjustment of the pitch of the propeller blades is not possible.
- the object of the invention is to improve a generic variable pitch propeller so that a sensitive and exact adjustment of the pitch of the propeller blades is possible.
- the adjusting device is designed as a spindle drive fastened to the propeller hub, the spindle nut rotatable on the spindle being designed as a displacement member for an adjusting linkage of the propeller blades connected to the synchronous flange, that the handle is non-rotatably coupled to the spindle nut, however is axially displaceable against a spring preload, and that axially directed pins are provided as a rotationally fixed coupling of the handle with the spindle nut in the handle, which project through the spindle nut into bores of the synchronous flange.
- variable pitch propellers that are used on outboard drives and so-called Z drives
- the handle is easily accessible after swiveling up the drive and can be adjusted easily.
- the invention is based on the consideration that to simplify the adjustment drive ie existing swiveling of the outboard drive can be used; By swiveling the drive, the variable pitch propeller connected to these drives is swung over the level of the water surface and is therefore easily accessible.
- the outboard drive 1 shown in FIG. 1 has a support body 2, on which an engine, preferably a thermal motor, covered by a hood 3 is supported.
- an adjustable propeller 5 is arranged, which is attached to a drive shaft (not shown).
- the horizontal drive shaft is driven by the engine via a shaft mounted in the support body 2 and an angular gear.
- Such a mechanical power transmission from the engine to the variable pitch propeller 5 is generally known and is therefore not described in detail.
- the outboard drive 1 is rotatably mounted on a fastening support 6, which is fastened at a location provided for this purpose on the rear wall 8 of the boat hull, which is shown partly in broken lines.
- the support body 2 is pivotally mounted about an axis 9 and can be pivoted into the position shown in dashed lines, as a result of which the variable-pitch propeller 5 protrudes from the water.
- an adjusting device 12 see FIG. 2, is attached to its hub 11, which has a handle 15 protruding from the hub 11.
- the adjusting device 12 is described in detail with reference to FIG. 2.
- the inner hub 18 is essentially an annular hollow body which is placed on the end of the drive shaft 16 and secured with a nut 14.
- the inner hub 18 has a tubular Hub extension, which is provided at its end with an external thread 21.
- the outer hub 19 is also essentially a closed ring which is connected to the inner hub 18 by webs 22. Between the webs 27 there are through-channels 50 through which the flue gases of the drive machine are discharged.
- Propeller blades 25 are rotatably mounted in the outer hub 19.
- the propeller blade has a foot 26 with which it is screwed by screws 24 to an adjusting plate 27 which is rotatably guided by a retaining ring 28 screwed into the outer hub 19.
- a guide groove 31 is incorporated in the adjustment plate 27, into which a pin 32 provided with a sliding block 31 is guided.
- the pin 32 is part of a bumper 33, which lies in a bore 35 in the outer hub 19.
- the annular outer hub 19 has a corresponding thickening of material at the location of the bearing of the propeller blades 25.
- the bumpers 33 which are equipped with seals 36, for example O-rings, to seal the bore 35 and the space around the adjusting plate 27 are connected to one another at the end 37 protruding from the bore 35 by a synchronous flange 40 which is connected by means of nuts 41 the ends 37 of the bumpers 33 is firmly connected.
- the synchronous flange 40 has an inner bore 42, with which the synchronous flange 40 is rotatably guided in a guide groove 43 of a spindle nut 45. So that the synchronous flange 40 can be inserted into the guide groove 43, the spindle nut has a screw ring 46 with which the one side wall of the guide groove 43 is formed.
- the spindle nut 45 forms, together with the hub extension 20 carrying the external thread 21, a spindle drive which can be rotated by the handle 15.
- the handle 15 is equipped with axially directed pins 47, which protrude through the spindle nut 45 into bores 48 of the synchronous flange 40.
- the handle 15 is pulled against the spindle nut 45 by spring force (not shown). If the spindle nut is to be axially displaced in order to adjust the pitch of the propeller blades 25, the handle 15 must be withdrawn to such an extent that the pins 47 are removed from the spindle nut 45 and the latter can rotate freely with respect to the synchronous flange 40. By turning the spindle nut 45, this and thus also the synchronous flange 40 with the bumpers 33 is axially displaced, the displacement of the bumpers 33 causing the adjustment plate 27 and thus the propeller blade 25 to rotate. If the desired pitch of the propeller blades 25 is set, the pins 47 of the handle 15 are snapped back into the bores 48 of the synchronous flange 40. As a result, the spindle drive is secured, so that an unwanted adjustment of the pitch of the propeller blades 25 is prevented.
- the adjustment device described makes it possible to adapt the pitch of the adjustment propeller 25 to the respective driving conditions. If, for example, water skiing is carried out with the watercraft, the propeller blades 25 are set to a smaller pitch, as a result of which a much better drive efficiency is achieved. For fast driving, on the other hand, a larger pitch of the propeller blades 25 is set by turning the handle 15 again, as a result of which a good drive efficiency is again achieved.
- This setting option saves a lot of fuel. The saving is achieved by a very simple and therefore inexpensive solution that can also be operated without any problems.
- the spindle drive does not take up a much larger diameter than that of the inner hub 18, so that the smoke gases of the drive machine can be discharged unhindered through the through-channels 50.

Description
- Fig. 1
