This makes it possible to support and transport workpieces whose expansion in the direction of travel A is so small that the workpieces cannot be caught by the pairs of rollers lying in front of and / or behind the respective grinding unit during the grinding process.

Claims (6)

  1. A belt grinding machine for grinding the underside of flat workpieces in a continuous process, comprising a conveying path (16) with a plurality of bottom and top rollers (42, 44; 46) which form a conveying gap for the workpiece between them and at least some of which are drivable, and two grinding units (18, 20) disposed successively in the feed direction (A) beneath the conveying path (16) and each having a grinding belt (22) adapted to be pressed against the underside of a workpiece passing through the conveying path (16), characterised in that the grinding units (18, 20) are so offset relatively to one another transversely of the feed direction (A) that their grinding paths - measured from the two side edges of the conveying path (16) - each extend over approximately half the width thereof and in that - as considered in the feed direction (A) - at least one bottom roller (44) co-operating with a top roller (46) is disposed adjacent the associated grinding unit (18, 20).
  2. A belt grinding machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the top roller (46) co-operating with the bottom roller (44) situated adjacent the grinding unit (18, 20) extends over the entire width of the conveying path (16).
  3. A belt grinding machine according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the grinding paths of the two grinding units (18, 20) slightly overlap transversely of the feed direction.
  4. A belt grinding machine according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the top rollers (46) of the conveying path (16) are mounted for vertical adjustment.
  5. A belt grinding machine according to claim 4, characterised in that the top rollers (44) are mounted jointly on a vertically adjustable frame (48).
  6. A belt grinding machine according to any one of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that a pair of top and bottom rollers (42, 46) extending over the entire width of the conveying path (16) is disposed in each case in front of, behind, and between the grinding units (18, 20), as considered in the feed direction (A).
