Abstract

An articulated wristlet has a plurality of decorative elements, an equal number of elements articulated by hinges capable of being unhooked and sliding type fittings. Adjacent lateral faces of two juxtaposed decorative elements hold the decorative elements to each other when the wristlet is worn normally. The lateral faces are shaped to permit the releasing of two adjacent decorative elements when the wristlet is folded beyond a predetermined angle, this releasing permitting the removal of one decorative element of the wristlet and then the unhooking of the corresponding linking element. The arrangement permits adjustment in the length of the wristlet without the use of tools.

Description

The invention relates to an articulated bracelet comprising a plurality of decorative elements arranged side by side along a longitudinal axis, a foldable inner core, assembly means associating each decorative element with the inner core and comprising an assembly of the type slide authorizing a movement of the decorative element relative to said inner core only in a longitudinal direction, said assembly of the slide type comprising the engagement of sliders carried by said foldable inner core in slides carried by said decorative elements.

A bracelet meeting the generic definition given above is described in patent CH-A 604 594. Each of the links or visible decorative elements of this bracelet comprises locking means consisting of two semi-cylindrical surfaces of the same radius and of which the 'one is concave and the other convex. This bracelet also has a foldable inner core and a slide-type assembly allowing each decorative element to be associated with the inner core. The inner core comprises a series of connecting elements comprising parts folded in the form of hooks and corresponding openings for locking two decorative elements so that the concave part of one rests, while being able to pivot, on the convex part of the other.

Like the bracelet of the present invention which will be described below, the bracelet of the patent cited above has an inner core which alone supports the mechanical tensile force which is exerted on said bracelet. The soul is dressed in a kind of decorative elements on which no mechanical constraint acts. If the bracelet described in the quotation is of a simple assembly where the decorative links are not linked by screws or pins and therefore does not imply the use of special tools, then arises the question of setting length of the bracelet or the modification of its aesthetic appearance since, in the construction provided, there is no angular position where a decorative element can be released from the foldable inner core. This must be done using a special attachment element which is not described and which will necessarily involve the use of tools.

To overcome the aforementioned drawbacks and propose a bracelet of which at least one link can be changed or added or removed without the aid of tools whatever its place in the chain making it up, the bracelet according to the present invention is remarkable, in addition to the characteristics listed in the first paragraph above, in that each decorative element has a lateral face at least partially covering the lateral face of a neighboring decorative element to lock them said elements when the bracelet is worn normally, said lateral faces being shaped in such a way that they are uncovered in relation to each other when the bracelet is folded beyond a predetermined angle thus allowing unlocking, then extraction of any decorative element located at any place along the bracelet by sliding said decorative element along the slides on which it is mounted.

The invention will now be understood on reading the following description, description illustrated by way of example by the drawing in which:
  • FIG. 1 a is a partial view from below of the bracelet according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, a view limited to two links of said bracelet,
  • FIG. 1 b is a section along the line Ib-Ib in FIG. 1 a,
  • FIG. 1c is a view along arrow C in FIG. 1b,
  • FIG. 2 is a sectional view of part of the bracelet when the latter is normally worn on the wrist,
  • FIGS. 3a and 3b are geometric drawings illustrating the rotation of an element of the bracelet with respect to a neighboring element under two conditions of different dimensions,
  • FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the bracelet of FIGS. 1 a and 1 showing how to proceed to remove a link from the bracelet, and
  • - Figures 5a to 5m schematically show the operations to be performed when it is desired to remove a link from the bracelet according to the invention.

Figures 1a and 1b are drawings showing a bottom view and respectively in section of the bracelet according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, bracelet of which only two links have been shown. Figure 1c is an end view of the bracelet according to arrow C shown in Figure 1b. The bracelet comprises a plurality of decorative elements 1 which are arranged side by side. The decorative elements 1 are arranged transversely to the longitudinal axis of the bracelet. The bracelet also includes a foldable inner core 15 composed of connecting elements 7 articulated one after the other by means of hinges 8 along an axis of articulation x. Each decorative element 1 is associated with a connecting element 7 by means of assembly of the slide type 9 and which does not allow, as is clearly visible in FIG. 1a, a movement of the decorative element 1 relative to the 'corresponding connecting element 7 that in a longitudinal direction symbolized by the arrow 10. When the bracelet is normally worn the adjacent side faces 5 and 6 of the two decorative elements 1 are, at least partially, facing one of the other and thus prevent these elements from escaping from the corresponding connecting elements 7. These lateral faces therefore constitute means for locking one decorative element on the other.

More particularly, in the embodiment presented in the drawing, the decorative elements 1 have the appearance of stirrups each provided with two branches 2 and 3 connected by a solid part 4 which forms the visible upper part of the bracelet. Similarly, the side faces 5 and 6 of each decorative element comprise a convex cylindrical portion 5 and a concave cylindrical portion 6 of radii of curvature r substantially identical. Thus when the decorative elements 1 are mounted on the connecting elements 7, they can move angularly one with respect to the other by reciprocal sliding of said cylindrical portions.

When the bracelet is worn normally, that is to say when its roundness matches the curvature of the wrist, the cylindrical portions 5 and 6 are at least partially opposite one another as shown in Figure 2. Since the decorative elements 1 are associated with the connecting elements 7 by the assembly means 9, these decorative elements are prevented from being released from the chain.

Still according to the particular embodiment shown in the drawing and as shown in FIGS. 1 a and 1 b, the axis of articulation x of a connecting element 7 on the neighboring element coincides with the axis of the concave cylindrical portion 6 of a decorative element.

De même la limita- fion de la longueur de la coulisse 14 positionne avec exactitude l'élément 7 par rapport à l'élément 1.The connecting element 7 is in the form of a substantially rectangular plate terminated by a hook 11 disposed on one of its long sides and by an opening 12 disposed on the opposite long side. Hook 11 and opening 12 make up the hinge 8. The short sides of the plate each have a slide 13 adapted to be engaged in a blind slide 14 formed in each of the branches 2 and 3 of the stirrup. Thus, as shown in FIG. 1a, the right decorative element 1 can be released from the connecting element 7 only in the direction of the arrow 10. Similarly, the limitation of the length of the slide 14 positions with accuracy of element 7 compared to element 1.

Very generally, the bracelet according to the invention comprises decorative elements 1 whose lateral faces 5 and 6 are shaped to allow the unlocking of two decorative elements when the bracelet is folded beyond a predetermined angle a, which allows the minus the extraction of a decorative element from the bracelet and the installation of another decorative element having for example a different aesthetic appearance. Thus, without having to use any tool, it will be possible for the seller or even the buyer of the bracelet to modify as desired the composition of the object if it has two or more decorative elements different. One can thus imagine an all-gold or all-steel bracelet or even having a regular alternation of gold and steel elements. One can still imagine elements on which would be reported, by crimping for example, one or more precious stones.

As already mentioned above, the inner core alone supports the mechanical tensile force exerted on the bracelet. It is therefore possible to use decorative elements made of hard and fragile materials and which would not withstand such a constraint if they were directly attached to each other. It could be synthetic or natural sapphire, polycrystalline ceramic materials or even hard metals sintered at more than 1000 ° C. Again, the bracelet according to the invention could carry a wide variety of decorative elements made with these materials individuals taken alone or in combination.

In the particular of cylindrical lateral faces as illustrated in the drawings, the radius of curvature r and the total thickness h of the decorative element 1 taken in combination, will depend on the angle a from which an element 1 can be extracted from chain. This is illustrated in FIGS. 3a and 3b which are geometric drawings of two different choice situations of the parameters r and h given above.

To make possible the release of the element 1', it will be necessary to fold the element 1" relative to the element 1 'at an angle a = 85 ° . If we denote by r the radius of curvature of the elements l 'and 1 "and by h the total thickness of the same elements, if we admit that the articulation axis x of one element on the other is confused with the axis of the cylindrical portion 5 of radius r, and if the axis x is placed in the middle of the thickness h, we can calculate that r must be equal or greater than h "2/2 if l 'we want to be able to fully release element 1'. Thus for a decorative element having a thickness h of 3.2 mm, the radius of curvature r must be equal to or greater than 2.25 mm.

On voit que le dégagement de l'élément l' est déjà possible pour un angle a de 40°.FIG. 3b shows decorative elements l ′ and 1 "of the same thickness as that chosen for FIG. 3a. Here the radius of curvature r has been enlarged. It can be seen that the clearance of the element l is already possible for an angle a of 40 ° .

Returning now to FIGS. 1 a to 1 c, it can be seen that the plate forming the connecting element 7 has a single hook 11 which is folded and is made in one piece with the plate. This hook extends over more than half the length of the long side of said plate. Similarly the opening 12, adapted in length to the hook 11, is stamped directly in the plate 7. The slides 13 are also cut in the extension of the plane of the plate. Their widths 1 are chosen to be large enough to avoid any rotation of the plate relative to the decorative element and to the slides 14 in which they slide. In this way, movement of the decorative element 1 relative to the corresponding plate 7 is only authorized in a longitudinal direction 10, as already mentioned above.

Il est clair qu'on pourrait avoir une situation où l'axe x serait situé dans le même plan que le plan de la plaque proprement dite sans s'écarter de l'objet de la présente invention.FIG. 1b also shows that the axis of articulation x from one plate to the other is located in a different plane than the plane of the plate itself, the latter being located in the same plane as the slides 13. It It is clear that one could have a situation where the x axis would be located in the same plane as the plane of the plate itself without departing from the object of the present invention.

Cette opération, dite de mise de longueur, va être expliquée maintenant à l'aide des figures 5a à 5m.Figure 4 is a perspective view showing how to remove a link from the bracelet. The bracelet is here limited to three decorative elements 1 ', 1 "and 1"'. To release the element 1 ", the element 1 is bent at an angle towards the rear of the figure. At this moment, the concave face 6 of the element 1" is no longer engaged facing the face convex 5 of element 1 "and element 1" can be slid out of the connecting element 7 'in the direction of arrow 10 by sliding the slides 14 out of the sliders 13. It is then possible to replace the element 1 by another element, of different color for example. Figure 4 also shows that we can unhook the hinge 8 by aligning the element 1 'on the element 1 "which will separate the connecting elements 7 'and 7 "from each other and then lengthen or shorten the bracelet at will with the aid of tools. This operation, called length adjustment, will now be explained in using figures 5a to 5m.

Figures 5a to 5m schematically show the operations to be carried out when it is desired to shorten the bracelet with a link. FIG. 5a presents a series of five decorative elements 21 to 25 attached together by five corresponding connecting elements 71 to 75. The aim is to shorten the bracelet by removing elements 23 and 73. To do this, we fold the bracelet to beyond the predetermined angle a by rotating the element 73 on the element 74 (FIG. 5b). The lateral faces 5 and 6 of the elements 24 and 23 are then released from each other which allows the extraction of the decorative element 23 in the direction of the arrow p and leads to what is shown in FIG. 5c . The remaining links are then aligned as shown in FIG. 5d, which makes it possible to unhook the connecting elements 73 and 74 from one another (FIG. 5e). The elements 24, 74 and 25, 75 are placed on hold. The connecting element 73 is rotated downwards in the figure, which makes it possible to remove the decorative element 22 in the direction of the arrow q (FIG. 5f). The element 22 is placed on hold (FIG. 5g). The element 73 is straightened horizontally (FIG. 5h), which makes it possible to unhook it from the element 72 (FIG. 5i). Element 72 is connected to group 74, 24, 75, 25 which had been put on hold (Figure 5j). The connecting elements 72 and 74 are folded at the angle a (FIG. 5k), which makes it possible to slide in the direction of the arrow f the decorative element 72 (FIG. 51). Finally we straighten the brace-. let (Figure 5m) which has been freed from the decorative element 23 and its corresponding connecting element 73. The example of shortening which has just been described makes it clear that any link in the chain can be removed . However, if the bracelet is intended to wear a watch, the arrangement according to the invention could be limited to a few links located on the side of the watch case or on the side of the bracelet clasp.

The embodiment which has been described above emphasizes rounded side faces, nested one inside the other when the bracelet is worn normally. It is clear, however, that these side faces could have other shapes that do not lock as intimately as shown the links one after the other. These faces could for example be flat or be composed of two or a plurality of flat portions without departing from the object of the invention, the essential being that these faces are shaped to lock the decorative elements between them when the bracelet is worn normally and to unlock at least one of these elements when the bracelet is folded beyond the predetermined angle a.

Depending on the materials used for the elements making up the bracelet and the dimensional tolerances adopted to make them, it could be feared that some of the decorative elements may inadvertently escape from the connecting elements which trap them when the bracelet is removed from the wrist. To avoid this, one could imagine a system of notching or any clamping of the decorative element on the connecting element which would require some effort to carry out the extraction of the decorative element.

Very generally, the bracelet according to the invention comprises a series of decorative elements associated with a foldable inner core made in one piece. According to the preferred embodiment described above, this inner core is composed of as many connecting elements as there are decorative elements, these connecting elements being attached one after the other by means of hinges. However, the invention is not limited to this single embodiment.

The inner core could be made of a single elongated and flexible strip of steel or rubber for example. Of this strip would protrude in the width direction and at regular intervals of the slides 13. In this case it is the flexibility of the strip that would replace the hook hinges described above.

The inner core could also be made in one piece of rubber inside which would be held captive steel plates arranged transversely to the core and protruding from it to play the role of the slides 13. A plate would be provided by decorative element.

The two variants envisaged above could be suitable in the case where only the aesthetic modification of the bracelet is envisaged. The shortening could however be easily envisaged in the case where the inner core is made of rubber. It would then suffice to cut a section of the core, on the clasp or box side, of a length corresponding to one or more decorative elements.
