Definitions
- the present invention relates to an expansion joint element, in particular for creating expansion joints in building construction, which is intended to remain a joint gap.
- Expansion joints have various tasks to perform. They subdivide larger concrete units to prevent them from hardening before cracks, which can occur due to the shrinkage of the material. The main task is to record the stretching movements that occur due to temperature differences. Expansion joints are also intended to prevent sound and cold bridges.
- the board is replaced by a polystyrene rigid foam plate, as is already available on the building.
- Polystyrene rigid foam panels that are intended to remain in the joint gap become brittle and crumble under the influence of thermal expansion movements.
- FR-A 2 487 884 a covering element for expansion joints made up of several layers has become known, but it does not serve to create and remain in the joint itself, but only covers an already finished joint and seals it from the outside.
- an expansion joint element according to the preamble of claim 1, which is characterized in that it consists of at least three layers, of which the two outer layers consist of rigid plate material, which has a structured surface towards the edge of the joint and one towards the adjacent central layer or layers have a smooth surface, and that at least one of the layers in between is a rubber-elastic, closed-pore foam sheet with a low compression hardness, the individual layers being glued to one another.
- foam sheets are made from peroxidically cross-linked polyethylene foam.
- the element Since it is not possible to manufacture the element in all the required dimensions, it is advantageous to produce relatively large panels that can be sawn to the desired dimensions. For this purpose, it makes sense if the outer layers consist of hardboard that does not absorb water.
- Figure 2 shows a multi-layer element with attached triangular strip.
- the expansion joint elements are shown in section in the two figures.
- the two outermost layers 1 are made of a relatively rigid material. Relatively high-density hardboard, such as those known under the Pavatex brand name, are particularly suitable for this purpose.
- the two outer surfaces 2 have a structured surface that forms an intimate connection with the adjacent concrete. Nevertheless, at least the surface should be impregnated so that the panels do not absorb and swell.
- the above-mentioned known Pavatex panels (WZ) have, for example, a textile-like structure on one side.
- the surfaces 3 directed towards the inside of the gap are smooth.
- the foam plate 5 is glued to the outer layers 1 on both sides.
- a so-called contact adhesive 4 is suitable for this purpose. In the case of standardized sizes, the adhesive 4 can be applied in the manner of a strip or a squeegee, because these elements only have to be cut to length.
- the element is made in the form of relatively large panels that are sawn to size on site, it is advantageous to carry out the bonding at least approximately over the entire area in order to prevent gaping between the layers.
- the relatively low compression hardness means that the expansion joint element can be compressed relatively strongly when concreting under the concrete load. A shrinkage then occurs during the hardening process of the concrete, so that the element adhering on both sides is pulled apart again.
- the foam plate thickness can vary between about 4 and 20 mm.
- FIG. 6 An expansion joint element with more than three layers is shown in FIG. Films 6 are ge between the outer layers 1 and the foam sheets 5 sticks 4, which serve as vapor diffusion barriers. Furthermore, the foam sheet 5 is present in two layers with another relatively rigid sheet 7 in between, which can be made of the same material as the two outer layers. However, both sides of the plate 7 are smooth so that the connecting adhesive layer 4 can be as thin as possible.
- the upper and lower longitudinal end edge can additionally be provided with a removable triangular strip 8.
- This bar is removed after the concrete has hardened, and the remaining groove is filled with a permanently elastic putty.
- the permanently elastic putty where it performs an important sealing function, the element itself is already tight here and the putty only contributes to increasing the tightness.
- the main task of the putty is then more aesthetic in order to create a visually perfect finish. In principle, however, the putty joint could also be omitted.
