Definitions

  • the invention relates to a sub-caliber projectile with a projectile body, an empennage and a sabot.
  • FR-A 1 257 604 discloses a mortar or bomb projectile with an outer, pre-fragmented fragmentation shell and an inner centering shell. Such a projectile is for construction or strength reasons for firing by means of a sabot, as z. B. is known from US-A 4,382,411, with high initial speeds in direct shot completely unsuitable.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a sub-caliber projectile which is suitable for firing at high initial speed for a direct target bombardment and furthermore enables a larger mass fraction of the construction splinters in relation to the projectile mass and a variation of the mass of the construction splinters within wide limits.
  • the arrangement of the construction splinters on the outside of the sub-caliber floor is made without positive locking, d. H. that the projectile casing has no elevations, depressions, threads or the like in the arrangement area of the splinter casing, with which the splinter casing is engaged.
  • This has the effect that when the projectile is fired in the gun barrel an equilibrium of the forces between the sabot and splinter case on the one hand and the projectile casing with explosives on the other hand is achieved.
  • the projectile shell only has to carry itself and the explosive, so that it can be made thin-walled accordingly and the mass saved in this way benefits the construction fragment mass.
  • the construction splinters can be made of any suitable material, for example steel. They can be graded in their mass over a wide range and there is an inexpensive production, since the splinter sleeve is simply pushed on.
  • the sub-caliber projectile shown in FIG. 1 has a projectile body 1 with a projectile casing 2 which is connected at the rear to an empennage 3 and on the bow side to a conical projectile tip 4.
  • the shell 2 receives an explosive charge 5.
  • the projectile body 1 also carries a sabot 6, which is expediently pre-segmented by axial slots 7, has a guide ring 8 and can be provided with a storage pocket 9 on the front.
  • the shell 2 has a circular cylindrical outer surface which extends over the receiving area of the explosive charge 5 and ends at the front on a shoulder 10, while the sabot 6 also has a circular cylindrical inner surface in this area, so that an annular space exists between the sabot 6 and the shell 2 , which is taken up by a splinter sleeve 11.
  • the splinter sleeve 11 can consist of individual rings 12 arranged axially next to one another, which, as shown in FIG. 3, can be pre-segmented by slots 13.
  • the splinter sleeve 11 can, as shown in FIG. 2, also consist of a pipe section pre-segmented by grooves 14, the grooves 14 being arranged according to a predetermined pattern.
  • the splinter sleeve 11 is pushed onto the circular cylindrical outer surface of the projectile shell 2 from behind against the shoulder 10 and runs flush with the projectile body 1.
  • the splinter sleeve 11 is secured on the rear side by a ring 15, which is screwed onto the projectile shell 2, for example, the projectile shell 2 in this area can be threaded for this purpose.
  • the ring 15 can also have a shoulder 16, which serves as a rolling edge for the sabot 6.
  • Corresponding interlocking means 17 on the circumference of the splinter sleeve 11 and the circular cylindrical inner surface of the sabot 6 can be formed, for example, as a conventional thread.
