Date Aug. 13, 1987.There is provided a fluorescent lamp having a fluorescent tube and a connecting element for connection to a source of current. The connecting element includes a mains plug having contact plugs electrically connected to the fluorescent tube and projecting on one side of the mains plug. Description

The invention relates to a fluorescent lamp with a fluorescent lamp tube and a connection element serving for connection to a current source.

Fluorescent lamps are used more and more compared to conventional incandescent lamps, because the fluorescent lamps have a longer service life and are more economical in energy consumption. In addition, it is possible in a simple manner to obtain light of the desired color, in particular also light similar to daylight, with the aid of fluorescent lamps, while incandescent light has a yellowish color in conjunction with a lower luminous efficacy, which is often not sufficient, in particular for lighting work rooms. It is therefore customary to equip in particular workrooms, especially large-scale workrooms such as open-plan offices, canteen kitchens and the like, with fluorescent lamps, which are mostly designed as elongated, permanently mounted ceiling lights.

Because of the advantages that fluorescent lamps have over incandescent lamps, however, it is desirable to also use fluorescent lamps increasingly in smaller spaces and to make fluorescent lamps more flexible, so that incandescent lamps can also be used in areas in which they are still used exclusively, for example for lighting bedside tables, work tables and the like, can be replaced by fluorescent lamps.

From the publication "Philips Compact Lighting Catalog, 1981, page 149" a fluorescent lamp (SL lamp) with a connection element serving for connection to a power source is known. The lamp has a screw thread for screwing into a bulb socket, a plastic base body and a lamp cap. This cap contains a folded discharge tube. A ballast resistor and a starter are housed in the plastic base body. The lamp is screwed into a conventional floor lamp, for example, instead of a light bulb.

From US-A-22 27 739 a lamp with an elongated lamp tube, a holder for the lamp tube and a power plug body as a connecting element is known. The power plug body protrudes from one side of the holder and has plug contacts that are electrically conductively connected to the lamp tube. The bracket for the lamp tube consists of several parts that must be brought together during assembly. In addition, the power plug body is made as a separate component that is assembled with the bracket during assembly.

The invention has for its object to provide a fluorescent lamp in which a simple assembly is possible and which can be connected to mains voltage in a wide variety of rooms in a simple manner and arranged with sufficient support.

To solve this problem, the fluorescent lamp according to the invention is designed such that
the connection element is designed as a mains plug body with plug contacts projecting on one side and electrically conductively connected to the fluorescent lamp tube,
the housing is elongated and is composed in two parts of two half-shells which can be separated from one another in the longitudinal direction,
the area of the power plug body adjacent to the plug contacts to the housing is formed from the half shells and
the power plug body is arranged on a long side of the housing and protrudes vertically from this long side.

The fluorescent lamp according to the invention can advantageously be plugged into a mains socket, which is generally present in every room. The fluorescent lamp is connected to the mains voltage by being plugged into the mains socket, and is advantageously arranged in the mains socket with sufficient hold, since an area of the mains plug body itself is designed as a housing and carries the fluorescent lamp tube. The fluorescent lamp is immediately ready for use, and additional holders on the fluorescent lamp and on the walls or ceilings of the room in which it is to be used can advantageously be dispensed with.

The power plug body is preferably designed as a flat plug, which is also referred to as a Euro plug, so that it can be plugged into any power socket, in particular also when traveling in power sockets of different standards, e.g. in a hotel room, can be plugged in.

The plug contacts are preferably arranged in the parting plane of the two half-shells, so that the plug contacts and other parts of the power plug are accessible when the housing is open. The half-shells are particularly inexpensive to produce as injection molded parts, preferably made of plastic.

In a preferred embodiment of the housing, the two half-shells forming the housing are assembled in a simple manner by plugging the two half-shells together,

die in ihrem Inneren sowohl negative, als auch positive, über die Trennebene der Halbschalen vorragende Rastelement aufweisen, die bei zusammengesetztem Gehäuse mit den passenden Rastelementen der jeweils anderen Halbschale in Eingriff stehen.which have in their interior both negative and positive locking elements projecting beyond the parting plane of the half-shells, which, when the housing is assembled, are in engagement with the matching locking elements of the other half-shell.

According to a development of the fluorescent lamp according to the invention If the interior of the housing is approximately in the form of two mutually parallel, adjacent sleeves, the fluorescent lamp tube is arranged in the first sleeve, an electrical circuit necessary for operating the fluorescent lamp tube is accommodated in the second sleeve and is located on the longitudinal narrow side of the sleeve facing away from the first sleeve molded on the second sleeve of the power plug body.

The fluorescent lamp tube and the circuitry required to operate the fluorescent lamp tube can be accommodated in the two sleeves running parallel to one another in a compact and easily replaceable manner. The housing advantageously has only about twice the volume of the fluorescent lamp tube, so that the fluorescent lamp according to the invention is handy and has so little weight that it can be securely held in a mains socket. The power plug body is formed on the second sleeve, which contains the circuit, so that the plug contacts can be electrically connected by short connections to the circuit, and the fluorescent lamp tube with the fluorescent lamp plugged into a power outlet points away from the power outlet into the room to be illuminated.

The spatial shape of the first sleeve is adapted to the fluorescent lamp tube, so that the fluorescent lamp tube can be inserted into this first sleeve and is held in the first sleeve without play. In order to allow the light of the fluorescent lamp tube to exit the housing, the first has Sleeve in its wall on a recess as a window for the fluorescent lamp tube, wherein the recess preferably extends almost over the entire central region of the wall of the first sleeve. The recess is preferably covered, for example, to protect the fluorescent lamp tube and its connection contacts against dust, by a cover or an insert, for example made of transparent plastic.

In a preferred embodiment of the housing, the second sleeve opens into chambers which adjoin the end walls of the first sleeve outside the first sleeve and contact tabs for end connection contacts of the fluorescent lamp tube are arranged in the first sleeve on the end walls and pass through the chambers with the in the second sleeve arranged circuit are electrically connected. The contact lugs are arranged on the end walls of the first sleeve so that the fluorescent lamp tube is electrically connected to the mains plug via its connecting contacts as soon as the fluorescent lamp tube is inserted into the first sleeve without it having to be connected by clamp connections or the like. Guides for the connection contacts of the fluorescent lamp tube can preferably be present in the first sleeve, so that the fluorescent lamp tube can only be inserted into the first sleeve in a position in which the connection contacts abut the contact tabs.
