Definitions

  • the invention relates to a paper-based identity card with at least one writing field for electrostatically printing data.
  • a first type consists of a weakly glued cardboard, which has the disadvantage, however, that it kinks easily, is not waterproof and is easily frayed. However, labeling them using an electrostatic process presents no difficulties. If such cards are sent to the recipient together with other messages, the card is usually part of the box on which this other message is printed. It can then be separated by perforations. Such cards are used for example in book clubs.
  • identity or membership cards made of plastic are known, which are relatively thin and therefore relatively flexible (thickness approx.0.3 mm). It is necessary to matt the step field for electrostatic printing of data. This is usually done by printing on the writing field with a plastic that forms a matt, color-accepting surface or by roughening. To print these cards, they are glued to the back of a carrier web and thus pass through the printer. The disadvantage here is that these plastic cards are electrostatically disturbed and partially prevented (see FR-A 2 541 978).
  • the printing is applied in powder form during printing and the powder then hardens. In the case of very fast-working printers, this is done by baking at about 200 ° C. If the machine comes to a standstill, such identity cards melt, which leads to longer interruptions in operation.
  • the card must not become detached from the carrier web in the printer and in the post-processing machines, such as folding and inserting machines, even if the carrier web is guided over small-diameter guide rollers.
  • these cards are made very thin, which in turn makes their appearance look cheap. They are translucent and therefore only ever printed on one side.
  • the card consists of a two-layer paper laminate. However, it is easily possible to use a three-layer laminate.
  • the first lower paper layer 1 is connected to the second upper paper layer 3 via an adhesive layer 2 which is colored intensely black or blue. This increases the opacity, ie the layer 2 prevents the print on the front or back of the card from showing through, so that both sides of the card can be printed.
  • the thickness d is preferably about 0.3 mm and the weight per unit area f is about 300 g / m 2 .
  • Calendering is preferably carried out in friction calenders.
  • Both surfaces of the cardboard are provided with a strongly glued pigment line 4, which omits the writing field 5 on the front of the card. If a writing field, such as writing field 6, is also provided on the back of the card, then this is also left out of the pigment line 4 'applied to the back.
  • the binder of this pigment coat is preferably based on rubber in the form of a rubber dispersion.
  • the card is now printed both on the areas provided with a pigment line 4, 4 ′ and on the lettering fields 5 , 6. This is done using a conventional printing method, preferably a raster print.
  • both surfaces of the cards are provided with a coating 7, which also omits the text fields 5, 6.
  • a coating 7 which also omits the text fields 5, 6.
  • the circumferential edge 8 of the coating on the back of the card can be spared.
  • the lacquer used for painting is an acrylate, which hardens through radiation and forms three-dimensional molecular chains. The curing takes place here by ultraviolet or by electron beams.
  • the card is now completed and can be glued to a carrier web for the passage of an electrostatic printer. If a writing field 6 is present on the back of the card, then the adhesive layer on the carrier web has a cutout corresponding to the writing field 6.
  • the card thus formed carries no electrical charge in the area of the writing field 5, so that it can be labeled in the writing field 5 by means of an electrostatic printing process.
  • the writing field 6 on the back of the card serves a signature, which can also be done easily.
  • the card has good abrasion and wet strength.
  • Their high elasticity in connection with the adhesion to the carrier web enables the carrier web to be guided even over rollers of small diameter in the area of the printer and the processing machines following the printer, such as folding and inserting machines. They can be removed from the carrier web without leaving any residue.
  • Their resistance to tearing and folding satisfies the demands placed on them. They are insensitive to temperature and can therefore be processed in laser printers, where baking temperatures of around 200 ° C occur.
  • the adhesion between the paper laminate and the pigment coating and between the latter and the coating is greater than the adhesion between the coating and pigment coating on the one hand and the glue of the carrier web on the other hand, the latter liability in turn being less than that between the glue and carrier web.
  • the card can thus be removed from the carrier web without the card surface being damaged or glue residues adhering to it.
  • the pigment coat is easy to paint and print. It is a relatively elastic line that is kink-resistant when the card is folded.
  • a two-dimensionally crosslinking acrylate lacquer dissolved in a solvent can also be used.
  • the identity card has a high elasticity and great strength. It has a good appearance, is inexpensive to manufacture and can be processed in very large quantities on fast-working printers. When the machine stops, it resists the temperatures in the printer.
