The packaging machine 1 has a machine frame 2, a molding station 3 carried by the latter and a sealing station 4. A lower film 5 is pulled off a supply roll 6 and is moved forward in cycles between the work cycles of stations 3 and 4: Containers 7 are formed in the forming station 3 and are fed to the sealing station 4 after filling. An upper film 9 is drawn off from a second supply roll 8 and guided over a deflecting roller 10 over the containers 7, from where the upper film is guided into the sealing station 4 for closing the containers.

A pressure device 11 is provided on the path of the upper film from the supply roll 8 to the deflection roller 10, that is to say before the upper film moves into the sealing station 4.

The printing device comprises a frame 12 which is connected to the machine frame 2. The frame 1 2 carries two guide rods 13, 14 which are arranged at a distance from one another and extend in a direction perpendicular to the upper film 9 to be passed through the printing device and on which a cross bar 15 arranged parallel to the upper film web is slidably arranged. The crossbar carries on its side facing the upper film a heating device 16 with attached printing types 17, 18, 19. The printing types are designed as clichés and are arranged on the side facing the upper film 9 and aligned parallel to the surface of the upper film and thus with the Heating device 16 connected that they can be heated to a predetermined temperature of preferably between about 130 and 150 ° C. The lateral spacing of the printing types 17, 18, 19 is selected as a function of the size and number of packs arranged next to one another in a direction transverse to the feed direction of the machine in such a way that the printing takes place for each of the pack rows. As can be seen from FIG. 2, the printing types are at a distance from one another.

Furthermore, an abutment plate 20 is provided parallel to the upper film 9 guided through the printing device on the side opposite the printing types and parallel to the upper film 9, to which the upper film is applied during printing by the action of printing types 17, 18, 19.

A drive 21 in the form of a piston-cylinder device is provided. The cylinder of the same is firmly connected to the frame 12. The piston rod is fixed to the crossbar 15. The drive is aligned so that it moves the print types over the crossbar 15 into the retracted position shown in FIG. 2 or into the print position, in which the print types press the top film against the abutment 20, depending on a control .

At a right angle to the guide rods 13, 14 and parallel to the plane of the top film 9, two further guide rods 22, 23 are arranged and held laterally by the frame 12. A housing 24 which can be moved back and forth is arranged on these. The housing comprises a base 25. Two horizontal bores are provided in the base, through which the two guide rods 22, 23 pass, and the diameter of which is selected such that the base slides freely on the guide rods. Furthermore, the base has a vertical center bore with ball bearings 26, 27 at each end of the bore. In addition, the ends of the chain 36, which runs parallel to the direction of the guide rods 22, 23, are firmly connected to the base 25.

On the top, the base has a housing designed as a heating chamber 29, which has a vertically extending opening 30 only on the side facing the printing types.

The interior of the heating chamber 29 is essentially cylindrical and so large that a paint roller 31 just fits into it. The paint roller 31 is applied to a roller mandrel 32 and consists of foam which is impregnated with printing ink. The printing ink is designed so that it is solid at ambient temperature and does not color. When heated to a temperature above the ambient temperature and preferably in the order of 130 to 150 ° C., the dye softens and is released to it when it comes into contact with printing types.

The paint roller is stretched through an axial extension 34 connected to the roller mandrel 32 into the vertical bore of the base 25 and is guided in the ball bearings 26, 27. At the end of the axle extension facing away from the roller, a chain wheel 35 is provided which is connected to the axle extension 34 in a rotationally fixed manner.

The heating chamber 29 is heated to a preset temperature of preferably approximately 130 to 150 ° C. via a control device.

An endless drive chain 36 is provided parallel to the guide rods 22, 23. This is guided over two chain wheels 37, 38 provided on the opposite sides of the frame 12. The sprocket 38 can be driven by a motor 39. The drive chain is connected to the base in such a way that when the drive chain moves, the housing 24 and thus the color film 31 are carried along and moved back and forth between the two side walls of the frame in the direction of arrow 40.

Furthermore, a second drive chain 41 is provided, which is guided via four deflection gears 42 - 45 which extend parallel to the axis of the ink roller 31. The second drive chain is oriented to engage the gear 35. The second drive chain can be driven by a motor 46.

In operation, the top film is first passed in the manner shown in FIG. 2 between the printing types and the abutment plate, which is preferably formed from an elastomer.

When the heating is switched on, the paint roller is rotated continuously via the motor 46 and the drive chain 41, so that there is constant uniform heating. To color the printing types, the motor 46 is switched off, and at the same time the motor 39 is switched on. As a result, the inking roller is moved along the clichés, the ink roller being constantly rotated by the drive chain 41, which now acts as a toothed rack. The ink roller rolls over the printing types or printing clichés and delivers the printing ink to them. As soon as the ink roller is in the second end position and the printing types are thus inked, the motor 39 is switched off and the motor 46 is stopped. At the same time, the printing types are pressed against the upper film via the drive 21 in the direction of arrow 47, as a result of which the color is transferred to the upper film. Since the top film is not heated, the color transferred to it is immediately smudge-proof. The next bar then follows.
