Definitions

  • the present invention relates to household linen and, more specifically, bed linen.
  • bed linen consists essentially of a bottom sheet intended to fit on a mattress, bordering it on four sides, and a top sheet intended to fit on the sheet of the underneath by lining the mattress on three sides, the fourth side being intended to form a return close to the headboard.
  • the bottom sheet may be a conventional sheet commonly called a "flat sheet”, that is to say a piece of fabric of rectangular shape, or a “fitted sheet”, that is to say a piece of fabric of generally rectangular shape whose four angles are shaped into cups and each provided with an elastic element or a cord to ensure a tight hold of the bottom sheet around the mattress.
  • a fitted sheet has four flaps which border the mattress, but in a more limited way than in the case of a conventional sheet.
  • the sheets must be made up according to a whole range of dimensions, which obligatorily involves falls of fabric, because the latter are available according to a small number of widths, the width being defined as the width of the fabric between its two edges.
  • the present invention makes it possible to avoid these drawbacks by proposing a set of bed linen ready to install on a mattress and comprising a bottom sheet and a top sheet integral with one another, which however offers the same qualities of comfort than a set of classic bed linen.
  • the present invention relates more particularly to a set of bed linen comprising a bottom sheet and a top sheet, intended to border a bed and each formed from a piece of fabric of generally rectangular shape.
  • the bottom sheet and the top sheet are joined together on a pocket-shaped flap intended to border the mattress on the side of the foot of the bed
  • the bottom sheet comprises a flap in pocket form intended to border the mattress on the side of the head of the bed, said pockets extending over the entire width of all the bed linen and can be turned over from an unused position where they are folded on the bottom sheet to a position of use where they are folded down to border the mattress and hold all the bed linen there.
  • the bottom sheet and the top sheet are joined together along one of their free transverse edges, the footboard flap thus being in double thickness.
  • the pocket formed by the double-fold footboard flap is, in its inoperative position, folded over the bottom sheet and the top sheet along a fold line parallel to the free transverse edge of the footboard. the bottom sheet and the top sheet, said pocket being sewn with the longitudinal free edges of the bottom sheet and the top sheet, between the free transverse edge of the footboard and the above fold line.
  • the pocket formed by the headboard flap is folded along a fold line parallel to the transverse free head edge of the bottom sheet and is sewn with the longitudinal free edges of the bottom sheet, between the transverse free edge of the head and the aforementioned fold line.
  • the distance between the fold line of the headboard flap and the fold line of the bed foot flap is substantially equal to the length of the mattress.
  • the footboard flap and the headboard flap are each provided, near their respective transverse free edges, with clamping means tending to reduce the width of the corresponding pocket and to stretch the set of bed linen on the mattress when this pocket is in the use position.
  • the assembly further comprises two side flaps joined to the footboard flap and to the headboard flap by diagonal seams to form cups at the four corners of the assembly, when the pockets forming the footboard and headboard flaps are in their position of use where they border the mattress.
  • the bottom sheet is itself shaped as a fitted sheet.
  • top sheet is arranged in double thickness to form a duvet cover.
  • the term "fabric” means all the woven or non-woven materials used in the manufacture of bed sheets.
  • the set of bed linen shown in Figures 1 and 2 includes a bottom sheet 10 and a top sheet 12 intended to border a bed mattress 14 whose rectangular outline is shown in broken lines in Figure 1.
  • Both sheets 10 and 12 are each formed of a piece of fabric of generally rectangular shape, the two pieces of fabric having the same length and the same width.
  • the length of the pieces of fabric is greater than the length of the mattress 14 to make it possible to produce a footboard flap 16 and a headboard flap 18 intended to border the mattress respectively on the footboard side and on the the headboard.
  • the flaps 16 and 18 are shown in an unused position in Figures 1 and 2, that is to say in a position where they are brought flat on the mattress, while that they are represented in a position of use in FIG. 3, where the flaps 16 and 18 border the mattress 14.
  • the sheets 10 and 12 are joined together on the flap 16 and, more specifically, along one of their free transverse edges, namely the edge of the footboard 20 which is common to the two sheets 10 and 12.
  • the joining of the sheets 10 and 12 along this common edge 20 is effected by a seam 22 which extends over the entire width of the set of bed linen, that is to say between two points 24 and 26 disposed respectively on the longitudinal edges 28 and 30 of the set of bed linen.
  • the flap 16 thus has a double thickness, as shown more particularly in FIG. 2.
  • the flap 18 is a flap of simple thickness, the transverse free edge of which corresponds to the transverse free edge 32 of the headboard of the bottom sheet 10.
  • the transverse free edge of the headboard of the top sheet 12 is designated by the reference 34.
  • the sheet 12 is folded, in the vicinity of the headboard, along a fold line 36 to form a return 38 directed towards the foot of the bed and limited by the abovementioned edge 34.
  • the position of the fold line 36 can be chosen at will to form a return of desired length, as with a conventional top sheet.
  • the length of the fabric constituting the sheet 10, as well as the length of the fabric constituting the sheet 12, must be greater than the length of the mattress to allow the flaps 16 and 18 to be made, while the width of these fabrics must be greater than the width of the mattress to allow two lateral flaps 40 and 42 to be produced.
  • the invention provides that the length of the two fabrics constituting the sheets 10 and 12 respectively corresponds to the width of the fabric used to make the sheets. This means, in other words, that the transverse free edges 32 and 20 of the sheet 10, as well as the transverse free edges 34 and 20 of the sheet 12 will correspond to the edges of the fabric used to make the sheets. Thus the width of the sheets will be taken in the length of the fabric, so that there will be no fall during the confection.
  • the width of the side flaps can be substantially equal to or even greater than the length of the headboard or footboard flap.
  • the flap 16 is produced in the form of a pocket which can be turned over from an unused position where it is folded over the bottom sheet 10 and the sheet of the above 12 (see Figures 1 and 2) to a position of use where it is folded down to border the mattress (see Figure 3).
  • the pocket constituting the flap 16 is folded along a fold line 44 parallel to the common transverse free edge 20 of the bottom sheet 10 and the top sheet 12.
  • the pocket forming the flap 16 is sewn with the longitudinal free edges 28 and 30 of the sheet 10 and sheet 12 by seam lines 46 and 48 which extend between the transverse free edge 20 and the fold line 44, the length of the seam lines 46 and 48 thus corresponding to the length of the flap 16.
  • the headboard flap 18 is also produced in the form of a similar pocket, but in single thickness. This pocket can be turned over from a position of use where it is folded over the bottom sheet 10. (cf. Figures 1 and 2) to a position of use where it is folded down to border the mattress 14 (see Figure 3).
  • the pocket forming the flap 18 is folded along a fold line 50 parallel to the transverse free edge 32 of the sheet 10. This pocket is sewn with the longitudinal free edges 28 and 30 of the bottom sheet 10 by seam lines 52 and 54 which extend between the transverse free edge 32 and the fold line 50.
  • the distance between the fold lines 44 and 50 must be substantially equal to the length of the mattress.
  • a certain tolerance is always possible.
  • the top sheet is arranged in double thickness, being constituted by two superimposed sheets 12 1 and 12 2 , so as to constitute a cover for a duvet 13.
  • the sheets 12 1 and 12 2 are joined to the bottom sheet 10 along the transverse free edge 20 and they are also joined together by their respective lateral edges.
  • the sheets 12 1 and 12 2 preferably have a length substantially equal to that of the mattress 14. They are joined together by their respective transverse edges, situated on the side of the headboard, by an appropriate closure 5, for example a closure with buttons. This closure is released to allow the introduction of the comforter, then locked after introduction of the latter.
  • the footboard flap 16 and the headboard flap 18 are each provided, near their respective transverse free edges 20 and 32, with clamping means 56, 58, 60 and 62 tending to reduce the width of the corresponding pocket. and to stretch the set of bed linen on the mattress when this pocket is in its position of use.
  • the clamping means of the flap 18 comprise two elastic links 60 and 62 fixed respectively to the longitudinal edges 28 and 30, or in their vicinity, and each provided with hooking means 64 and 66 capable of cooperating with each other.
  • the elastic links 60 and 62 pass respectively through two braids 68 and 70 sewn by two parallel seam lines on the flap 18 and near the transverse free edge 32, a free space being provided between the ends 72 and 74, facing each other, braids 68 and 70.
  • the attachment means 64 and 66 are advantageously means of the clasp type which can be mounted adjustable on the elastic links 60 and 62, so that that, when these means cooperate with each other, the elastic force which acts on the pocket to reduce its width and to bring the edges 28 and 30 closer can be adjusted as a function of the width and thickness of the mattress.
  • the clamping means associated with the flap 16 are produced in a similar manner.
  • the clamping means of the flap 18 comprise an elastic link 61 provided with buttonholes 63, passed inside a braid 65 which is sewn by two parallel seam lines on the flap 18 and close to the transverse free edge 32.
  • the braid 65 can be replaced by a simple hem constituting a loop in which the tightening link slides.
  • the elastic link is sewn by one of its ends near the longitudinal edge 28 of the sheet 10.
  • the tightening of the pocket formed by the flap 18 is adjusted by cooperation of one of the buttonholes 63 of the elastic link 61 with a button 67 sewn near the edge 30 of the sheet 10.
  • the tightening means associated with the flap 16 are produced in a similar manner.
  • the clamping means of the invention can use not only elastic ties, but also non-elastic ties, for example cords.
  • each of the seams extends from the point of connection between the transverse free edge of the flap 16 or 18 and one of the longitudinal edges 28 and 30 to the point of the fold line 44 or 50 which is located at a distance from the longitudinal edge corresponding to the width of the side flap.
  • seams 76 and 80 pass through two thicknesses of fabric, while the seams 78 and 82 pass through four thicknesses of fabric.
  • the four triangles delimited respectively at the four corners of the set of bed linen by the seams 76, 78, 80 and 82 can, if desired, be removed by cutting the pieces of fabric outside the above-mentioned seams.
  • the latter is placed on a mattress as shown in Figures 1 and 2, the pockets forming the flaps 16 and 18 being in the unused position. In this position, the locking means of the clamping means of the flaps are not in the cooperation position. The locking means are then made to cooperate so as to exert an elastic tension on the pockets forming the flaps 16 and 18, these pockets are then turned over as shown by the arrows F in FIGS. 1, 2 and 5 so as to border the head and the foot of the mattress. Then fold the side flaps 40 and 42 to border the longitudinal edges of the mattress both with the sheet 10 and with the sheet 12, while providing a return 38 for the top sheet.
  • the folding of the lateral flaps 40 and 42 is carried out as shown by the arrows G in FIGS. 1 and 5.
  • the diagonal seams such as 80 and 82 make it possible to produce cups so that the four flaps can perfectly match the corresponding corners of the mattress 14.
  • the marginal parts of the flaps such as the parts 84 and 86 of the flaps 18 and 42 are housed under the mattress 14 for border perfectly. In this position, the two flaps are subjected to the action of an elastic force which tends to hold the flaps 16 and 18, and also the flaps 40 and 42 in the planking position of the mattress.
  • the top and bottom sheets 10 and 12 are joined by a seam along the edge 20 of the footboard and also on part of the side edges 28 and 30 from the transverse edge 20.
  • the seam lines 46 and 48 already mentioned are extended respectively by seam lines 88 and 90 ensuring a partial connection of the sheets 10 and 12 along the longitudinal edges 28 and 30.
  • the length of the seam lines 88 and 90 can be chosen at will during the preparation.
  • FIG 8 shows another alternative embodiment in which the bottom sheet 10 is shaped into a fitted sheet, the rectangular fabric making up this sheet being cut at its angles and sewn by seam lines such as 92, 94, and 96 to form bonnets, each provided with an elastic member or a cord (not shown), in a manner known per se.
  • the top sheet 12 is formed in a fabric of the same length and the same width as the bottom sheet 10. The two sheets are joined together on the flap intended to border the mattress on the side of the foot of the bed. This connection is advantageously carried out by the respective transverse free edges of the sheets 10 and 12.
  • transverse free edge of the foot of the top sheet 12 is joined to the bottom sheet 10 along a line 98, located at a distance from the corresponding transverse free edge of the mattress 10, along the fold line between the horizontal part 100 which forms the tray and the footboard flap.
  • the set of bed linen in accordance with the embodiments of FIGS. 1 to 7 has the additional advantage of not including, in the inoperative position, any gathered part since the clamping means are separated. This facilitates in particular the ironing, folding and storage of the set of bed linen because these operations can be done flat.
