Definitions
- he invention relates to a continuous casting mold, in particular made of copper, which consists of an inner section with liquid cooling and a jacket section.
- Such a continuous casting mold is known from DE-AS 19 64 048.
- the inner section is formed by plates which enclose a mold cavity and into which grooves are milled on the outside.
- the outer walls of these inner sections are covered by a jacket section which in this case is formed by support plates which close the grooves. Cooling water is passed through the grooves so that the heat of fusion during continuous casting, in particular of steel, can be removed to a sufficient extent. Accordingly, the liquid metal solidifies, which emerges at the lower part of the continuous casting mold with a sufficiently stable extrusion shell.
- the latter can be compensated to a limited extent by machining, but at least this presupposes that the mold in question is taken out of production for a correspondingly long time, which necessitates costly stockpiling.
- the mechanical revision is limited on the one hand by the dimensions of the strand to be observed and on the other hand by the minimum wall thicknesses of the molds to be observed. The wall thickness is then considerably restricted as a result of the cooling channels or cooling bores. In the absence of support, thin-walled molds of this type can tear all the more easily since the strength perpendicular to the radial grain orientation direction preferred as a result of casting the molds and generally coinciding with the heat flow direction is reduced.
- the invention has for its object to develop continuous casting molds of the type mentioned in the introduction so that they can be produced with significantly less effort and without the risk of cutting pores or other imperfections.
- the heat dissipation should be better than that of the known cooling ducts and cracking of the mold due to the reduced strength mentioned should also be avoided even if the mold wall thickness is reduced.
- the structure of the new mold is differentiated. While the inner section is so thin that no extensive cast crystals can emanate from it in the radial direction, the cooling channels are formed by cooling tubes which are characterized by a cold-forming structure and accordingly can absorb particularly high tensile stresses in their longitudinal direction.
- cooling tubes are in turn firmly anchored in the finally cast casing section, the latter of which also forms an integral connection with the inner section. Since there is no machining in the interior of the mold, and since the production of both the inner section and the cooling tubes does not lead to pore cavities or the like, the production can be carried out not only with a correspondingly reduced reject rate, but at the same time achieve a longer service life for the molds. In contrast to the support plates known in its place, the jacket section produced by casting technology makes a considerably reduced contribution to the stability of the mold, since the cooling tubes themselves provide a strong support effect.
- Melting of the cooling pipes during casting can be reliably avoided by applying a coolant to the cooling pipes during casting, air being used if necessary if the heat removal by water is too high. This means that the usual dimensions for the cooling pipes with 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter and a wall thickness of about 0.8 mm can be used. When casting the jacket section remain at a temperature about 30 ° C above the melting point. Iie get cooling pipes on the one hand, and on the other hand the material connection is established.
- the support emanating from the cooling tubes is particularly effective when the cooling tubes surround the inner portion of the mold in a coil-like manner, because this is the most reliable way of anchoring the cooling tubes.
- the overall wall thickness of the mold can therefore also be chosen to be lower, especially since the cooling tubes can also be wrapped around the inner section in several planes or layers. Of course, this is limited to one-piece continuous casting molds, such as those used for casting billets or blooms.
- the inner section does not necessarily have to be made of copper. It can also be made of nickel, especially if it can be made thin-walled. This enables considerable improvements in wear to be achieved.
- the jacket section is in contrast, advantageously always cast from copper, while the copper pipes are produced by drawing. The drawing process can also be used for the production of the inner part, which thus also obtains a dense, fine structure without a pronounced grain orientation being able to escape the mold in the heat flow direction. Another interesting way of producing the inner section is by electroplating.
- the inner section can also be produced by a special casting process in which the core is designed as a quenching body acting on the casting. In this way, a distinct microstructure is obtained in the direct connection to the core or to a quenching plate, which is free of any pores, cavities or the like, especially on the inside.
- the drawing shows a cross-section of a bloom block chosen as an example.
- the mold cavity 1 takes up to the mirror height 11 the liquid metal 3, which emerges at the lower end with the solidified strand shell.
- the mold including its longitudinal axis 10, is shown with a straight passage. In practice, deviating from this, there is often the arch form, in which the invention can nevertheless be used in the same way.
- the inner section 2 has only a very small wall thickness and is produced by electrolytic nickel deposition. There is a dense structure in the inner section, which in particular has no pronounced orientation in the heat flow direction 7. On the inside there is a very smooth inner wall 4 along which the strand can move downwards without excessive wear on the inner shell 2.
- the thickness 6 of the inner section 2 is a fraction of the total wall thickness 5.
- the inner section 2 is wound in a coil shape by means of a cooling tube 3, for which there are 2 connection connections (not shown) for the supply and discharge of the cooling water.
- the turns of the cooling tube 8 have a coincident with the longitudinal axis 10 of the mold Longitudinal axis.
- the cooling tubes can not only be provided in one layer 12, but can also be aligned in a second layer 13 with the gap space of the turns of the first layer. This creates a very large area for heat dissipation. Said heat dissipation is particularly ensured by the integral connection of the mold jacket 9 with the inner section 2 and the cooling tubes 8 when copper is used in the usual way for the jacket section 9.

Abstract
