Claims (5)

1. An apparatus for monitoring and restarting the yarn yarnwhen the full bobbins on the spindles of a continuous spinning machine are replaced by empty tubes, means being provided for underwinding, cutting and retaining the yarn, characterised in that the apparatus comprises two rings, namely an inner ring (5) and an outer ring (6), each ring having one or more knife blades (11,12), the outer ring being so slidable vertically on the inner ring that the two blades (11, 12) contact the last turns of yarn wound between them and sever them, the blades being disposed vertically in planes which contain the spindle axis, the underwinding turns being deposited between the blades of the inner ring (5) and the blades of the outer ring (6).
2. An apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that all the turns wound on the underwinding apparatus are cut in the movement of the outer ring (6) on the inner ring (5) by multiplication of the number of blades and by their preferred shape as guillotine.
3. An apparatus according to claims 1 and 2, characterised in that the outer ring (6) has lifters (15) or the like so arranged that in the upwards movement the yarn end originating from the traveller remains positively clamped between the two rings (5, 6) while remaining rigidly secured to the spindle, whereas the yarn end originating from the full bobbin is free.
4. An apparatus according to claims 1-3, characterised in that a pawl (17) or other means is or are provided to prevent the outer ring from dropping back by its own weight, so that the spindle may rotate at a reduced speed.
5. An apparatus according to claims 1-4, characterised in that the pawl (17) or other means disengages or disengage in response to centrifugal force and enables or enable the outer ring (6) to drop back as soon as the spindle runs at its normal operating speed; and lugs or the like (21 ) or other means are provided to force the ring to drop back into its initial position.
