Description

The invention relates to a device for moistening printing plates in rotary printing presses with three rollers by spraying or spinning liquid droplets onto a first roller with a hard, dampening agent-friendly surface.

From DE-B-22 21 289 it is known to spray dampening solution onto a roller which reaches a soft applicator roller via a hard grater. From JP-A-58 74 348 it is known to use a soft roller instead of the grater, but this is a four-roller dampening unit.

AS 22 58 321 shows a spray dampening unit which, based on the prior art mentioned above, has an additional roller (grater) between the first roller to be sprayed and the dampening agent application roller. Following the general rule recognized in inking and dampening technology, this roller also has a hard, usually metallic surface. As is known, such a distribution cylinder is driven forcibly while the dampening solution applicator roller is carried along by friction. Such intermediate distribution cylinders are usually chrome-plated, i.e. provided with a water- or dampening agent-friendly layer. The dampening solution applicator roller, on the other hand, must always be soft (elastic), which is why it e.g. is plastic or rubber coated. However, all of the previously known soft roller covers that are customary in practice, such as are suitable for the aforementioned fountain solution applicator roller, take on color. The ink on the dampening solution applicator roller now prevents the formation of a closed and uniform water layer, since the water rests more or less like drops on this previously undesired ink layer or is incorporated into it. This phenomenon is particularly disadvantageous in the case of so-called “rewetting printing units”, in which the water or dampening solution is applied to the printing plate to be moistened after inking. In this case, since there is no smoothing effect due to the inking rollers, the disturbed water application is directly visible in the print image. "Drop formation" on the printed copies can often be observed. Various solutions have so far been used in that the rubber covering of the dampening solution applicator roller has been provided with textile or felt-like coatings, which should repel the ink due to their water storage, in order to promote the formation of dampening solution film. For this reason, it has so far been limited to placing only the inevitable dampening roller between the distribution cylinder (hard, metallic surface) and the cylinder carrying the printing plate to be moistened.

The object of the invention is to further develop a dampening unit of the type described at the outset, which enables better quality moistening without additional effort on rollers, so that drop-like irregularities frequently caused by dampening agents on printed products caused by dampening solutions on the rollers no longer occur.

This object is achieved in a surprisingly simple manner by applying the features of claim 1. Advantageous further developments result from the subclaims in connection with the description and the attached drawing. By using a further roller with a soft surface, for example a rubber roller or a textile-coated roller between the dampening solution application roller and the distribution cylinder, it was surprisingly found that the aforementioned problems are not exacerbated and the formation of a high-quality and uniform film is prevented, but rather entirely On the contrary, apparently the additional flexing work of the intermediate soft roller promotes the formation of emulsions between paint and water. In a completely surprising manner, this fine emulsion in the contactless dampening system according to the invention replaces the uniform water or dampening solution film which cannot be produced with a rubber roller and a hard distribution cylinder, and thereby allows problem-free printing. After the additional (rubber) roller is inserted between the dampening roller and the distribution cylinder, it acts in the described positive manner in both directions of rotation, i.e. even with a so-called “rewetting”.

The invention is described below using an exemplary embodiment, reference being made to the accompanying drawing.

The offset printing unit shown is used in rotary printing presses, for example for newspaper printing, and comprises a central impression cylinder 1 (satellite cylinder) around which the blanket cylinders 2 to 5 are arranged. Each of the blanket cylinders 2 to 5 is assigned to one of the plate cylinders 6 to 9, which in turn is in a conventional manner with one of the inking and dampening units 10, 14; 11, 15; 12, 16; 13, 17 are equipped.

For example, only reference is made to the lower right dampening unit 16 within the scope of the present invention. This comprises a spray device 18, in its place one or more brushes or spray nozzles can also be used, for example. With the help of the spray device 18, the dampening solution to be applied, for example water, is sprayed in drop form onto a first roller 19, a so-called distribution cylinder with a hard, metallic surface. The first roller 19 is preferably chrome-plated. The droplets are fed to a further roller 20 which is arranged between the hard roller 19 and the soft dampening solution application roller 21 which is in contact with the plate cylinder 8. From the second roller 20 with a soft surface, for example a rubber-coated roller, the dampening solution reaches the pressure plate to be moistened via the roller 21, which is also rubberized, for example.

As already mentioned, the use of a roller with an elastic surface between a distribution cylinder, in this case the first roller 19 and the soft dampening roller 21, makes it more surprising Schender manifestly a "Feinstemul- version" made of ink and dampening solution, the cause for not expected BEEN easy humidification of the plate cylinder. 8

In addition to the soft rollers of the first roller 19 and the dampening solution application roller 21, further soft rollers can be arranged if an even higher quality is required.
