Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a ski boot consisting of at least one lower part intended to surround the foot and a rod articulated on this lower part, and comprising, at the rear, means of connection between the rod and the lower part, arranged in a cutout of a part of the upper surrounding, at least, partially, the lower part of the shoe, these connecting means comprising a lever capable of occupying at least two positions, one, folded down against the shoe, in which the upper is angularly fixed to the lower part with a determined angle of inclination, and the other, raised, in which the upper is free to oscillate, within certain limits, on the lower part, means being provided to modify the inclination of the rod in the angularly fixed position.
  • the device allows a very fine adjustment of the inclination of the rod, on the other hand it is relatively delicate and both the actuation of the lever and the adjustment of the angle of inclination can prove to be difficult in snow.
  • the actuation of the lever and the adjustment of the angle of inclination can prove to be difficult in snow.
  • the running position when the upper oscillates on the lower part of the shoe, all the joints are stressed and hinder the movement of the upper. It is also difficult to introduce into this mechanism an elastic connection acting as shock absorber.
  • the present invention aims to provide connecting means between the upper and the lower part of the shoe using no threaded adjustment part and requiring no precision in manufacturing, all parts having to be able to be manufactured by simple means, preferably by stamping.
  • the ski boot is characterized by the fact that said connecting means comprise a rack integral with the rod and extending in the direction of the rod, a lever provided with an eccentric hub, articulated around a horizontal axis mounted in two lateral guides parallel to the rack and formed in two cheeks integral with the rack, in which said axis can move parallel to the rack, a stirrup mounted on said axis by two slots perpendicular to the rack, and the median face of which look of the rack, has teeth, a male element secured to either the lever or the lower part and cooperating by fitting with a female element secured to the lower part or the lever.
  • said lever being able to occupy three characteristic positions, namely a folded-down position on the shoe in which its eccentric hub presses said stirrup against the rack and in which the male and female elements are fitted one into the other, a partially raised position in which the male and female elements are released from each other, but said eccentric hub is still in abutment against said stirrup, and a position raised to at least 90 ° in which said stirrup is not pressed against the rack.
  • said male element is constituted by a sphere rotatably mounted on a horizontal axis parallel to the rack and said female element is a cylindrical housing provided with two lateral slots for the passage of the axis of the sphere. These slots are relatively wide with respect to the axis of the sphere, the whole so as to allow an adjustment of the lateral inclination of the upper relative to the sole of the shoe.
  • the lever consists of two parts fitted into one another and hooked to one another with the interposition of an elastic element between the hanging parts, so that the lever has a certain elasticity in traction, thus absorbing the shocks on the leg, the lever being however rigid in compression, which is more favorable for the practice of skiing.
  • said male element is constituted by a horizontal bar secured to the lever and engaging by force in the groove of a block of elastic material secured to the lower part of the shoe.
  • the ski boot shown in Figure 1 is made of molded synthetic material. It consists, in a manner known per se, of a lower part 1 or shell comprising the sole and the upper and of a rod 2 articulated on the shell 1 at two opposite points 3, only one of which is visible on the drawing.
  • the upper edge 1a of the part 1 is surrounded largely by the rod 2 at the front and at the rear of this rod.
  • the shoe is provided in a known manner with four loops 4.
  • the shell 1 and the rod 2 are further connected to each other by connecting means 5 embedded in a rectangular cutout 2a of the rod 2 .
  • connecting means 5 are shown in Figure 2. They comprise an aluminum molded part 6 fixed by means of two legs 7 to the shell 1 by means of rivets. This molded part 6 has a cylindrical part 8 split by a diametrical slot 9 over almost its entire height and the end of which has a slight notch 10.
  • a metal piece 11 obtained by cutting and folding d 'a sheet so as to have four side walls 12,13,14 and 15 perpendicular to a bottom 16, in the manner of a housing.
  • This part 11 is held in the cutout 2a of the rod, above by two lateral tabs 17 and 18 engaging under the rod and by a bent edge 19 of the face 13 and, below, by a screw screwed in a hole tapped 20 on the face 15.
  • the large parallel faces 12 and 14 also have two opposite rectangular openings 21 and 22 extending parallel to the bottom 16.
  • this bottom 16 is formed a rack 23, for example by stamping. Below this rack, the bottom 16 has an oblong cut 24 in which the cylindrical part 8 of the part 6 freely engages.
  • the connecting means further comprise a stirrup 25 having a toothing 26 facing the rack 23 and parallel to the teeth of this rack.
  • the wings of the stirrup 25 have two square slots 27 and 28 located opposite the slots 21 and 22 of the part 11. In these slots 27 and 28, the square ends of an axis 29 freely engage. These ends are also engaged in the lights 21 and 22 of the part 11. Between the wings of the stirrup 25, the axis 29 is of circular section and freely crosses the lever 30 consisting of two parts 31 and 32 fitted one into the other and attached to each other. These two parts 31 and 32 are made of cut and folded sheet metal.
  • the part 31 has a front face 33 on each side of which extend two wings crossed by the cylindrical part of the axis 29 and whose lower ends are provided with two legs bent at right angles 34 and 35.
  • the lower part 32 has an upper end 36 bent at a right angle, a lower end 37 slightly curved so as to allow the lever to be gripped and two parallel wings 38 and 39 between which is mounted an axis 40 on which is mounted a sphere of synthetic material, preferably in self-lubricating synthetic material such as DELRIN (registered trademark), free to rotate on the axis 40.
  • the upper face of the bent part 36 bears against a piece 42 of synthetic material, for example also DELRIN, forming the hub of the lever 30 on the axis 29.
  • This hub 42 has, on the side of the stirrup 25, a cylindrical surface 43 centered with respect to the axis 29, but cut by an inclined plane 42a so as to consti kill a clamping cam.
  • the rest of the surface of the hub 42 is made up of flat faces adapted to the faces of the parts 31 and 32.
  • a block of material elastomer 44 giving the lever 30 a certain elasticity in traction.
  • the part 32 of the lever bears against the hard hub 42, so that the lever 30 has no elasticity in compression.
  • the parts 31 and 32 of the lever 30 are therefore simply fixed together by fitting and hooking by their parts 36 and 34/35 with the interposition of an elastic element,
  • the stirrup 25 is strongly pressed against the rack 23 by the hub 42 of the lever 30 which acts in this position as a clamping cam, the axis 29 bearing against the outer ends of the lights 27 and 28.
  • the plastic sphere 41 is engaged in the cylindrical housing formed by the part 8.
  • the shell 1 and the upper of the shoe are thus rigidly connected with the exception of the 'elasticity offered by the elastomer part 44.
  • the diameter of the sphere 41 is slightly greater than the diameter of the inlet of the part 8, so as to ensure retention of this sphere in its housing.
  • the slot 9 of the part 8 is substantially wider than the diameter of the axis 40 so as to allow a certain rotation of the lever 30 around the axis of the cylindrical part 8, so as to allow an adjustment of the inclination lateral of the upper 2 of the shoe relative to the shell 1.
  • the connecting means comprise a metal part 45 of cut and folded sheet metal, similar to part 11 of the first embodiment and fixed in the cutout 2a of the rod 2.
  • This part 45 has three sides 46, 47 and 48 folded at right angles relative to a bottom 49 having a rack 50.
  • the sides 46 and 48 are parallel and are provided with two rectangular slots 51 and 52 similar to slots 21 and 22 of the first form of execution.
  • a stirrup 53 similar to the stirrup 25, is articulated the end of a lever 54, constituted by a piece of molded metal, the hub of which also has a cylindrical part 55 followed by a clearance 56.
  • This hub is mounted free in rotation on an axis 57 whose square ends pass through two square slots of the stirrup 53 and engage in the two slots 51 and 52 as in the first embodiment.
  • the lever 54 has a recess 58 in which is mounted a cylindrical bar 59 intended to engage in an elastomer block 60 fixed in a piece in U61 itself fixed by means of a rivet 62 to the shell 1.
  • the elastomer block 60 has a groove whose section has the shape of a U or an omega, in which the bar 59 engages.
  • the elastomer block 60 ensures a certain elasticity of the connection between the rod and the shell of the shoe, both in traction and in compression.
  • this embodiment is mounted on a shoe having means for adjusting the lateral inclination of the upper relative to the shell, it may happen, when the adjustment is made in the open position of the connecting device, that the bar 59 is no longer parallel to the groove of the block 60. It is however possible to obviate this drawback by allowing the support 61 of the elastomer block to turn fat on its rivet 62 and by adjusting the lateral inclination in the closed position of the means of liaison.
  • the present invention is of course susceptible of numerous variant embodiments.
  • the male and female elements can be reversed; in the first embodiment, the ball would be secured to the lower part of the shoe, while the split cylindrical part would be secured to the lever.
  • the elastomer block could be removably mounted in its stirrup, so that it can be exchanged, for example, for a block of different elasticity.
