Definitions
- the present invention relates to a switchable four-port gate, consisting of two axially arranged Y-circulators, two arms of the circulators being connected to one another and the superimposed gyromagnetic ferrite regions of the two circulators being exposed to a DC magnetic field.
- Such a four-port gate with two Y-circulators arranged coaxially one above the other is known from DE-OS 19 16 035. It has the advantage that it is very space-saving compared to a four-port, which is realized by two circulators which are connected in series and are arranged separately from one another. In addition, the four-port, with two circulators arranged one above the other, only requires one magnetic field for the necessary magnetic flooding of the gyromagnetically active ferrite regions lying one above the other. In the case of spatially separated circulators, each is to be exposed to its own magnetic field.
- the invention is based on the object of creating a switchable four-port gate of the type mentioned which has two signal paths crossing at an angle of 90 °, a signal fed into a signal path completely passing through this signal path or diverted into the crossing signal path, depending on the switching state becomes.
- the object is achieved in that the circulators are rotated relative to one another about their axis and / or the circulator arms are angled such that two arms of each circulator end at gates which point in opposite directions and the gates of one circulator opposite the gates of the other circulator are oriented about 9 0 ° twisted and that the DC magnetic field is umpolbar.
- the four gate according to the invention has the advantage that it is constructed in a very space-saving manner.
- the switchable four-port shown in Fig. 1 consists of two axially arranged Y-circulators 1 and 2. Both circulators are housed in a common housing 3 and separated from each other by an intermediate wall 4.
- the conductor system 5, 6 is designed with the arms of the circulators spatially offset by 120 ° using symmetrical stripline technology. Implementation in waveguide or coaxial line technology is also possible.
- Two of the three arms of the two circulators are led out laterally from the housing 3 via coaxial connections.
- the two connections a and b can be seen, which represent two of the total of four gates.
- One arm of each circulator is not led out of the housing 3 to a gate. These two arms of the circulators are interconnected.
- the intermediate wall 4 is provided with a coaxial passage 7.
- Gyromagnetic ferrite disks 8, 9, 10, 11 are arranged axially one above the other on both sides of the conductor systems 5, 6 of the circulators.
- the pole shoes 12, 13 of an electromagnet are located above and below the housing 3 in the area of the ferrite disks stacked one above the other.
- a coil 15 is wound on the yoke 14 connecting the two pole shoes.
- This electromagnet passes through the ferrite disks with a magnetic field, the direction of which can be reversed depending on the current flowing through the coil 15.
- permanent magnets can also be used, the magnetic field of which can be reversed with an electromagnetic pulse.
- the direction of rotation of the two circulators depends on the polarity of the magnetic field and thus also the assignment of the individual gates to each other.
- the air gaps between the ferrite disks are only very narrow.
- FIG. 2 illustrates in a top view of the switchable four-port the routing of the two Y-circulators superimposed, there are the arms of the lower circulator dashed and the arms of the upper circulator drawn with solid lines.
- the two circulators are positioned in the housing and two arms are angled at the ends so that the arms lead to gates a, c and b, d, of which gate a is opposite to gate c and gate b is aligned opposite to gate d.
- the two circulators are rotated about their common axis, so that the gates a, c of one circulator point in directions which are offset by 90 ° from the directions in which the gates b, d of the other circulator point.
- the other two arms of the circulators, which do not lead to the four gates a, b, c, d, run towards the common connection point 7.
- FIG. 3 a and 3 b schematically show how the individual gates are assigned to one another in different directions of rotation of the circulators. If the circulators turn clockwise, as shown in FIG. 3 a, a signal fed in at gate b reaches gate d and a signal fed in at gate c reaches gate a; d. In this case, the signals fed in at gate b or c are directly switched through to the opposite gate d or a. If the circulators turn counterclockwise, a signal fed in at gate b to gate a and a signal fed in at gate c are switched through to gate d, as can be seen in FIG. 3b. In the one case (cf. FIG. 3 a) the signals go straight through two signal paths crossing at an angle of 90 °, in the other case (cf. FIG. 3 b) the signals fed into a signal path are crossed in the signal paths Signal path redirected.
- the four-gate described above with its gates pointing in four different directions offset by 180 ° can advantageously be installed in a switching matrix.
- 4 shows a switching matrix composed of four switchable four gates 16, 17, 18 and 19.
- the four gates can be easily connected to form a switching matrix without the need for elaborate connecting arms between the four gates.
- z. B two possible signal paths (solid line, dashed line) are drawn.
- a signal fed in at gate c 19 of quarter gate 19 is deflected to gate d 19 , then passes from gate b 17 of quarter gate 17 to gate a 17 and is finally switched through straight from gate c 16 of quarter gate 16 to gate a 16 .
- Another signal passes through a direct path from the gate 18 of the b Viertors 18 via the gate 18 d, the gate 16 of the Viertors b 16 to the To r d 16

Abstract
Description
- Fig. 1 die Seitenansicht des erfindungsgemäßen schaltbaren Viertors,
- Fig. 2 die Draufsicht auf das Viertor,
- Fig. 3 a, 3 b zwei verschiedene Schaltzustände des Viertors und
- Fig. 4 eine mit Viertoren realisierte Schaltmatrix.
