Description

The invention relates to an apparatus for applying adhesive tapes to supports whatever their material: plastic paper, kraft paper, etc.

Currently, adhesive tapes are used in the form of spools. To allow easy takeoff from the end of the ribbon at the start of each operation, a reel is used which consists of a box containing the coil and having a branch external to said box. The adhesive tape leaves the housing through a slot made on the periphery of the latter. The end of the aforementioned branch is provided with a blade and has a small bulge allowing, on the one hand, the cutting of the tape and on the other hand, the fixing of the end of the latter after gluing. It should be noted that the adhesive side is obviously always on the side of the branch in order to be able to be fixed there by gluing on only a few millimeters.

Such a device certainly avoids the drawback of a difficult peeling off of the end of the ribbon at the start of each operation, but it is difficult to use because it does not allow the ribbon to be applied to a support with precision and speed. Indeed, the guide of the tape is done with one hand and, therefore, the bonding is poorly done without any precision and slowly. The result is always bad if the end of the ribbon is not applied in the right direction, which happens frequently because the ribbon then deviates from the desired direction and the operation has to be started again.

In fact, the devices currently used are simple reels because they do not have devices ensuring the application of the end of the tape on its support.

Document US-A 3,565,727 describes an instrument for applying an adhesive tape comprising a cutting member situated at the end of a branch secured to the housing, said branch having two lateral tabs, the free ends of which form between they have a space less than the width of the adhesive tape. The aforementioned tabs extend parallel to the face of the ribbon.

The present invention relates to an instrument for applying an adhesive tape in which the spool is enclosed in a housing in which it can rotate freely, provided with an outlet slot for said tape and with a cutting member, such as '' a blade fixed relative to the housing and located at the end of a branch integral with said housing and said branch has two lateral tabs whose free ends provide between them a space less than the width of the adhesive tape which is held by the latter near said branch after cutting the ribbon (see US-A-3,565,727) characterized in that said tongues are inclined with respect to each other so as to each form an acute angle with respect to the face of the branch located on the side of the slot and thus guide the ribbon during its application.

  • La figure 1 est une vue en élévation montrant l'instrument de l'invention ;
  • La figure 2 est une vue de côté effectuée selon la flèche F de la figure 1 ;
The invention will be better understood from the description made with reference to the accompanying drawings by way of indicative example only, in which:
  • Figure 1 is an elevational view showing the instrument of the invention;
  • Figure 2 is a side view taken along the arrow F of Figure 1;
  • FIG. 3 is a partial elevation view showing a detail of the embodiment of the instrument of FIG. 1.

En se reportant au dessin, on voit que l'instrument se compose essentiellement d'un boîtier 1 dans lequel est enfermée une bobine B de ruban adhésif R.Referring to the drawing, it can be seen that the instrument essentially consists of a housing 1 in which a coil B of adhesive tape R is enclosed.

The ribbon R leaves the housing 1 through a slot 2 in the latter.

Le boîtier 1 présente une branche 3.The housing 1 has a branch 3.

The branch 3 has at its end a usual cutting blade 6 toothed or not and preferably metallic.

The end of the branch 3 has a sharp edge 9 and two lateral fins 10 having a convex curvilinear outline 11 circular or parabolic for example.

The end of the blade 6 is set back relative to the aforementioned curvilinear contour. Preferably, the distance between the periphery of the fins and the end of the blade 6 is of the order of three to six millimeters.

De plus, ces dispositions permettent la mise en tension du ruban sur la lame 6.In this way, during the cutting of the tape, the blade 6 cannot come into contact with the support and damage it. In addition, these arrangements allow the ribbon to be tensioned on the blade 6.

The branch 3 has on its face directed towards the ribbon R a ribbon retaining member constituted by two lateral tabs 13, arranged obliquely so that the distance separating the free ends of said tabs is less than the width of the ribbon R.

Preferably, the inclination of the tongues 13 is of the order of about thirty degrees.

In this way, when the tape is cut, it is kept in the vicinity of the branch 3 and the friction between said member and the adhesive face of the tape is reduced to a minimum.

The housing 1 comprises a flexible blade 14, the free end of which can exert a slight pressure on the ribbon to oppose its withdrawal movement during cutting, this pressure being however insufficient to oppose the unwinding of said ribbon.

La figure 3 représente un détail de réalisation de la lame flexible 14 qui présente des ergots 15 s'étendant obliquement dans le sens de déroulement du ruban de sorte qu'ils n'accroissent pas l'effort de traction durant le dévidage mais qu'ils s'opposent, par contre, efficacement à son mouvement de retour lors de son sectionnement.FIG. 3 shows a detail of embodiment of the flexible blade 14 which has lugs 15 extending obliquely in the direction of unwinding of the tape so that they do not increase the tensile force during the unwinding but that they on the other hand, effectively oppose its return movement during its sectioning.
