Definitions

  • the subject of the invention is an apparatus which is used for drying, that is to say reducing from an initial value of 50 to 60% up to about 6% of the humidity of fabric or knitted items having a length which can reach 250 m or more. At the same time, this device gives the treated fabric or knitted fabric dimensional stability.
  • the main object of the invention is to achieve a simple and economical drying apparatus to be produced because of its design, efficient in operation, with high efficiency, which has, in addition, the advantage of not marking the treated knitted fabric. and stabilize it.
  • An apparatus comprises a generally closed envelope containing, in its upper part, at least one transverse shaft driven in rotation and carrying a cylinder of the so-called open type arranged substantially opposite a moist air outlet opening in the next wall.
  • An inclined and curved partition is arranged inside the envelope from the lower level of the humid air outlet to descend below the cylinder and extend beyond it with a smooth concave face turned towards said cylinder, to then rise substantially parallel to the nearest wall to a level close to the lower generatrix of the cylinder. In this way, the wall of the envelope and the rising end part of the partition limit an ascending channel ending in an outlet where a deflector directed towards the cylinder is placed.
  • a dry air inlet opening is provided in the same wall as the humid air outlet opening but below the curved partition. There is therefore inside the envelope an air circulation circuit which starts from the dry air inlet, runs along the lower face of the curved partition descending with it, then rises in the ascending channel. to be directed by the deflector towards the cylinder in order to reach the humid air outlet.
  • the envelope has a larger longitudinal dimension and contains two transverse shafts which each carry an open type cylinder; the curved partition extends below the two cylinders and the ascending channel with which the deflector is associated opens in the vicinity of the cylinder furthest from the humid air outlet opening.
  • each cylinder is composed of several elements radiating from the shaft and also spaced angularly.
  • these elements end in an extreme convex edge which is provided with a lining unfavorable to the sliding of the fabric or the knitted fabric subjected to drying.
  • this expander is of the ring type and, more preferably, it comprises a free O-ring with profile having two faces in a truncated cone each cooperating with a cylindrical roller.
  • dry air preferably heated to a temperature of 70 to 100 ° C
  • This air heats the latter then it is directed by the deflector through the fabric or the knitted fabric, then through the cylinder or cylinders, before leaving through the humid air outlet opening.
  • the treated fabric or knitted fabric is closed in an endless loop around the cylinder (s) which move it continuously. Its length is notably greater than the distance between the trees and the distance separating them from the curved partition so that it forms numerous folds which slide on this partition heated by air.
  • An apparatus according to the invention is composed of a generally closed, parallelepipedic envelope, containing at least one transverse shaft driven in rotation on which is fixed a rotating cylinder.
  • a structure of this kind is not unknown in the field of treatment of textile parts.
  • An example is found in French Patent No. 2315563, but the apparatus described therein is intended only for dyeing textile pieces.
  • the merit of the invention is to have understood that the structure of a dyeing apparatus is perfectly suitable for drying textile pieces. This results in an important and immediate advantage because this structure is simple, clearly simpler than that of conventional drying apparatuses.
  • the apparatus described in the aforementioned patent cannot be used for drying because of its design focused exclusively on the dye. From the structure of this dyeing apparatus, the invention provides simple specific organs which make it effective in the field of drying and of economical use for the execution of this operation. In addition, a device thus obtained has a stabilizing effect greater than that of conventional drying devices.
  • FIG. 1 illustrates a first aspect of the invention.
  • a closed envelope 1, made of sheet metal supported by a frame, is provided on a front wall 2 with a door 3 for loading and unloading.
  • the opposite rear wall 4 has, in its upper part, an opening 5 for humid air outlet and, at a lower level, an opening 6 for dry air inlet.
  • a transverse shaft 7 which is coupled to a rotary drive motor. On this shaft 7 is locked in rotation a cylinder 8 whose precise constitution will be described later.
  • an interior partition 9 starts from the rear wall 4; it is inclined downward and descends below the cylinder 8, extends beyond the latter to end in an end portion 9A, preferably vertical, parallel to the front wall 2.
  • the latter and the end portion 9A of the partition 9 limit an ascending channel 1 0, which ends by an outlet 11, with which is associated a deflector 12.
  • the latter starts from the edge of the outlet 11 closest to the front wall 2 and tilts in the direction of the cylinder 8.
  • the position of the outlet 11 and the inclination of the deflector 12 are not of critical importance. However, it is desirable that the outlet 11 is at a level at most equal and preferably below the level of the lowest point of the cylinder 8, and that the deflector 12 is directed substantially towards the shaft 7.
  • the internal partition 9 is curved at least in its part located below the cylinder 8; it has a smooth concave face 9B on the latter. Any fabric or knitted fabric 13 to be dried is closed in on itself, in a closed loop, and it is internally supported by the cylinder 8 so as to hang freely until it rests on the smooth face 9B where it forms numerous transverse folds 14.
  • the interior partition 9 creates in the interior volume of the envelope 1 an air circulation circuit which starts from the dry air inlet 6, runs along the lower face of the partition 9 opposite its smooth upper face 9B, rises in the ascending channel 10, passes through the knitted fabric 13 and the cylinder 8 by means of the deflector 12, and reaches the humid air outlet opening 5.
  • Fig. 2 illustrates a second aspect of the invention relating to a device of greater capacity. It generally comprises the same parts as the apparatus of FIG. 1; we therefore used the same reference numerals to designate them.
  • the envelope 1 of fig. 2 is greater in the longitudinal direction in order to be able to contain two shafts 7A, 7B which are spaced apart and which each carry a cylinder, respectively 8A, 8B.
  • the two cylinders 8A, 8B are spaced apart longitudinally and, preferably, the front cylinder 8A close to the wall 2 is at a lower level than the rear cylinder 8B close to the rear wall 4.
  • the difference in level between the two cylinders 8A, 8B is not of critical importance. It makes the front cylinder 8A more accessible for loading and unloading operations and it places the rear cylinder 8B on an upward path which facilitates the installation of the inclined internal partition 9 parallel to this path.
  • the partition 9 is flat in its part located under the rear cylinder 8B and its curving begins when it arrives under the front cylinder 8A.
  • a second internal partition 16 is arranged parallel to the partition 9, at a lower level, in order to better channel the dry air and, also, in order to ensure a better contact between this air and the partition 9.
  • the door 3 is mounted at a lower level, partly opposite the front cylinder 8A. It is double-walled and, when it is in the closed position, it constitutes the channel 10 which extends the circuit formed between the partitions 9 and 16.
  • the deflector 12 is mounted on the door 3, at the outlet 11 of the ascending channel 10 If it is deemed useful to direct the air well, a second deflector 17 is mounted on the inner edge, close to the front cylinder 8A, of the outlet 11. Above the deflector 12, the door 3 is full, or at single wall; it can be glazed at this location for monitoring operation.
  • the upper wall 18 of the envelope 1 substantially follows the inclination of the straight line joining the shafts 7A, 7B so that the air in circulation is better guided.
  • the humid air outlet opening 5 is connected by a sheath 19 which terminates in the suction orifice 20 of a fan 21.
  • the latter is connected by its discharge orifice to the opening d '' dry air inlet 6.
  • a sheath 19 it is possible to install, if desired, a filtration means 22 and / or a battery 23 for dehumidifying the air. In this device, air circulates in a closed cycle.
  • the knit or fabric 13 to be dried rests on the two cylinders 8A, 8B and hangs until it is supported by the inclined and curved smooth face of the internal partition 9 where it forms numerous folds 14.
  • the two shafts 7A, 7B are rotated at the same speed by the same motor (not shown) in the direction indicated by arrows.
  • the cylinder 8 and the cylinders 8A, 8B are driven at a speed which gives the knitted fabric 13 a speed of movement. between 20 m / min and 120 m / min; a satisfactory speed value is 80 m / min.
  • a speed of rotation of the rolls is too low, there is a slip between them and the knitted fabric 13.
  • the speed is too high, there is also a risk of relative sliding. In all cases, any friction should be avoided between the knitting and the rolls as this results in a polishing of the knitting. Polishing is not the only risk of deterioration to be avoided. Measures must be taken so that folds do not become the cause of permanent traces which should then be removed.
  • the design of the cylinders 8 contributes to eliminating this risk.
  • Each cylinder 8 or 8A, 8B is open; it comprises, in addition to the shaft 7, several diametrical frames 24, preferably 8 in number, which are also angularly spaced.
  • Each frame 24 ends in two opposite convex edges 25 and each edge 25 is provided with a non-slip bead 26, for example a rubber bead preferably having two parallel beads 27.
  • Each bead 26 is made of rubber and is glued or engaged in a suitable groove along each convex edge 25.
  • the frames 24 are fixed to transverse cheeks 28.
  • Each cylinder 8 or 8A, 8B is capable of being traversed by the current of air which leaves the outlet 11 to reach the opening 5 of the humid air outlet. Thanks to the convex edges 25, the rolls help to hold the fabric or knitted fabric 13 in the spread state in a transverse direction without the formation of longitudinal folds.
  • a spacer 15 is placed on its path, below the level of the outlet 11.
  • the latter is a device known per se, as a whole, already used as such in conventional drying equipment. It is always important, in fact, in all drying appliances, to prevent the formation of longitudinal folds. By forming such folds, the fabric or knit tightens in a transverse direction, which affects the drying efficiency; furthermore, the longitudinal folds do not tend to open and disappear on their own. On the contrary, they tend to subsist and grow until leaving traces or marks which must then be removed - by an appropriate calendering.
  • the expander 15 being known, it will not be described in detail. It extends transversely, in a direction parallel to the shafts 7, 7A, 7B. It is designed to operate with a knitted fabric 13 produced on a circular loom in the form of a large diameter hose. This hose is laid flat, by bending in a diametral plane, and it rests on double thickness on the cylinders 8, 8A, 8B and on the inclined partition 9.
  • the expander 15 comprises a support transverse to the hose and two means of widening are mounted on this support with a possibility of adjusting their spacing. Each widening means comprises (fig. 5) two arms 29 arranged at 90 ° to each carry a roller 30.
  • the two rollers 30 are themselves disposed at 90 ° by limiting between their periphery a space through which an O-ring passes 31.
  • the rollers 30 are rotated by means not shown and the O-ring 31 is free to rotate.
  • the knitted fabric 13 is arranged to pass between the rollers 30 and to contain the ring 31. When the two widening means are moved apart on either side of the general axis 32 of the expander, the knitted fabric 13 is held between the rollers 30 and the ring 31 and it is spread in the transverse direction.
  • the enlargement 15 it is preferable to provide the enlargement 15 with an improvement which contributes to preventing the formation of any undesirable trace on the knitted fabric. It is, in fact, part of the object of the invention to remove unwanted traces on the treated knitted fabric more effectively than do conventional drying apparatuses.
  • a conventional expander 15 may be suitable for certain fabrics that are not very sensitive to wrinkles.
  • the improvement brought by the invention to the expander 15 becomes necessary.
  • This improvement consists in that the two rollers 30 are cylindrical and the O-ring 31 comprises two frustoconical faces 32. These faces 32 have a width and an inclination which correspond to those of the cylindrical surfaces of the two rollers 30. In this way, the knit 13 is held between surfaces which roll together with the greatest possible contact.
  • the knitting passes over the cylinder 8 (fig. 1) or over the two cylinders 8A, 8B (fig. 2); it is supported at its lower part by the inclined and curved partition 9. This is relatively not far from the cylinder or cylinders 8, 8A, 8B so that the knitted fabric 13 forms many transverse folds 14. Then the knitted fabric 13 passes to through the expander 15 before being exposed to the dry air which comes from the outlet 11. As said, this air passes through the cylinder 8 or the cylinders 8A, 8B before exiting through the opening 5.
  • the knitting is driven in rotation in a closed loop, at the peripheral speed of the cylinder (s), without slipping, this speed preferably being of the order of 50 to 80 m / min.
  • the drying air which is sent through the opening 6 is hot air, at a temperature of 75 to 95 ° C.
  • This air meets the inclined partition 9 and runs along its underside until it arrives in the channel. ascending 10.
  • the partition 9 is therefore hot and it contributes to drying by its contact with the folds 14, which is favorable to the speed of drying.
  • a device such as that of fig. 1
  • the knitted fabric 13 descends from the cylinder 8, or 8B, meets the partition 9, collects thereon by sliding and forming the transverse folds 14.
  • the latter are created naturally and are constantly in movement, then they open when the knit rises to arrive at the expander 15. This natural movement of knitting has proven to be very favorable to its stabilization. The stresses undergone by the thread during knitting are released and the stitches take their final position. A similar effect, necessarily less significant, takes place with woven fabrics.
  • Stitches C1, D1 relate to a 1/1 ribbed knit in 17 tex yarn, dyed, stitches C2, D2 in a 3/3 ribbed knit in 17 tex yarn, dyed, stitches C3, D3 to a knit ribbed 1/1 in 17 tex yarn, dyed and ecru, stitches C4, D4 to a knitted ribbed 1/1 in 17 tex yarn, ecru, all these yarns being cotton.
  • the residual shrinkage is between 2.5 and 5.5% for points D1 to D4 while it is between 8 and 10% for points C1 to C4.
  • the residual shrinkage is between 3 and 3.5% for points D1 to D4 and between 8 and 9% for points C1 to C4.
  • the superior stabilizing effect obtained with the apparatus of the invention is clearly highlighted.
  • the process for measuring the residual shrinkage was as follows. The outline of a square plate 20 cm square was drawn on the knitted fabric, then the knitted fabric was washed and dried in accordance with the washing and drying method defined by French standard G 07-136.
