Definitions

  • the present invention seeks to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and relates to a device for removing grinding dust from a railway vehicle equipped with units for grinding the rails of the railway track, as described for example in CH-A- 529 260, which is distinguished by the fact that it comprises means forming, near the grinding units, a layer of mist capturing the dust and blowing it down on the ground.
  • Figures 1 and 2 illustrate a grinding rail vehicle provided with a first embodiment of the dust suppressing device.
  • This vehicle 1 comprises a rolling chassis to which are fixed adjustable tool holders 2 comprising several grinding units 3 each.
  • the fixing and adjustment of these tool holders and of the grinding units is carried out in a conventional manner, as described for example in patent CH-A-529,260.
  • Cylinders connecting the tool holders 2 to the vehicle I make it possible to apply grinding units 3 against the rail R with the desired force during work.
  • the grinding dust removal device comprises means forming, near the grinding units, a layer of mist capturing the dust and dropping it on the ground.
  • These means comprise a conduit 4, disposed on the periphery of the vehicle 1 slightly above the grinding units 3, having orifices or ejection channels 5 distributed over the entire length of the conduit 4 and directed downwards.
  • This conduit 4 is constituted for example by four rectilinear sections each extending on one side of the vehicle, connected by corner connectors, not shown, allowing each section to rotate on itself.
  • Each section of the duct 4 is held on the chassis of the vehicle 1 by flanges 6 allowing an angular orientation of this section so as to direct the orifices 5 in the best direction to create a sheet of fog sufficiently close to the grindstones 7 to allow picking up grinding dust from them.
  • the grinding dust removal device also includes means for producing a fluid and distributing it to the means forming said mist.
  • these means of producing the fluid forming the fog layer comprise a heat exchanger 8, the primary circuit of which is supplied by the exhaust gases of a heat engine 9 used to propel the vehicle and to driving an electric generator 10 supplying electric current to the grinding units and to the various installations of the vehicle.
  • the exhaust gases from the heat engine 9 having passed through the heat exchanger 8 are discharged into the atmosphere.
  • the secondary circuit of the heat exchanger 8 is formed by a coil 11 in which a pump 12 sends water drawn from a reservoir 13. This water is vaporized during its passage through the heat exchanger 8 by the calories which are delivered to it by the exhaust gases and the steam thus obtained is distributed by one or more pipes to the duct 4. This water vapor escapes under pressure through the orifices 5 and thus creates around the lower part of the vehicle a layer of fog confining the particles of grinding dust.
  • the grinding dust is captured by this layer of fog and the humidified dust falls to the ground. This effectively prevents the projection of grinding dust into the atmosphere, thereby achieving the desired goal.
  • the relatively heavy metal dust is thrown away from the grinding area and downwards, they settle on or near the track without causing damage or inconvenience.
  • conduit 4 and its orifices 4 are replaced by conduits 14, 15 supplying water vapor to the nozzles 16, 17 whose orifices are directed towards a grinding wheel 7.
  • a pair of nozzles 16, 17 is associated with each grinding unit 3 and thus projects a vapor mist around the grinding wheel 7 capturing the grinding dust from the latter.
  • a pump 21 is provided supplying in pressurized water a nozzle 22 placed in the exhaust pipe 23 of the engine 9.
  • a nozzle 22 placed in the exhaust pipe 23 of the engine 9.
  • This mixture of exhaust gas and water vapor allowing the creation of the mist layers can also be obtained, as illustrated diagrammatically in FIG. 5, by bubbling the exhaust gases into a water tank 24.
  • the conduit 4 respectively the nozzles 16, 17 are also orientable to allow the creation of the fog zone where the dust from grinding are present.
