Definitions
- thermal spraying of high-melting substances is known, but could not previously be used to form surface coatings on plastic bodies, because the surface of the plastic would coke. Therefore, thermal spraying was only possible with low-melting substances, for example with pure aluminum, whereby only a relatively low adhesive strength of the surface coating on the plastic base body could be achieved, even if the surface had previously been roughened.
- thermal spraying is now applied without damage to a plastic base body to form a firmly adhering surface coating from a high-melting substance in such a way that the surface coating is bound via an intermediate layer, which is both made of a thermally sprayable plastic as well as the high-melting material chosen for the surface coating.
- the intermediate layer decreases from the plastic base body to the outside in the plastic portion and correspondingly in the portion of the high-melting substance to at least approximately plastic freedom at the transition to the surface coating.
- the high-melting substance is thus already contained in the intermediate layer that binds the surface coating.
- this substance initially only has a small proportion in relation to the plastic of the intermediate layer, this plastic will nevertheless have to meet relatively high requirements for its resistance to decomposition when heated by thermal spraying, and not under certain circumstances, depending on the choice of the high-melting substance to coke yourself.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of providing a composite body of this type for binding the surface coating with a thermally sprayable intermediate layer, with which thermal damage is reliably ruled out both with regard to the plastic of the base body and with regard to the plastic component itself.
- the drawing shows in section a section of a base body 1 made of plastic, e.g. Polyvinyl chloride, which for reasons of erosion protection is provided with a surface coating 2 made of a high-melting metal, e.g. Titanium is provided. Since the surface coating 2 is used by thermal spraying, e.g. Plasma spraying, which is to be produced, a thermally sprayed intermediate layer 3 is provided as a composite layer between the base body 1 and the surface coating 2 to prevent coking or similar damage to the plastic.
- the intermediate product for the intermediate layer 3 is a mixture e.g. Made of polyester resin and aluminum alloyed with silicon.
- This mixture is available in the quantity ratio required for the intended function as so-called 601 NS powder from METCO INC., 1101 Prospect Ave., Westbury, LI, New York and has so far been used in engines for surface coatings of metal surfaces which are used in the Protect the run-in phase of the blades against their contact. It has been shown that the intermediate layer 3 sprayed from such powder, the low-melting metal part of which is harmless to the plastic of the base body 1, not only does not suffer any damage during the subsequent thermal spraying of the surface coating 2, but also ensures the desired high adhesive strength of the surface coating.
- the invention is not limited to an intermediate layer with an unchanged ratio of metal to plastic.
- it can, starting from the plastic base body, decrease the intermediate layer in layers or continuously in the plastic portion and increase accordingly in the proportion of the low-melting metal up to at least approximately plastic freedom at the transition to the surface coating.
