Claims (8)

1. Locking device for a sliding window, door or the like having at least one control rod (4) provided, on the one hand, with a least one locking element (6) transversally adjustable in relation to the said control rod (4), by moving in a slot (7) in the said control rod (4), and on the other hand with a compression device (29, 38) of the said element, characterized by the fact that the compression device aforesaid (29, 38) includes a cross-piece (29) inserted within the slot (7) in the control rod (4) and resting upon the locking element (6), the said cross-piece (29) being adjustable by means of an adjusting device (38) perpendicularly to the direction of adjustment of the locking element (6) and being provided with guides (30, 31) interacting with the control rod (4) to prevent any transverse movement of the said cross-piece (29) in relation to the control rod (4).
2. Locking in accordance with claim 1, characterized by the fact that the guides for the cross-piece (29) are made up of two wings (30, 31) covering the lateral edges (32, 33) of the control rod (4).
3. Fitting in accordance with claim 1, characterized by the fact that the cross-piece (29) has a bevelled edge (36) engaged with the adjusting device (38).
4. Fitting in accordance with claims 1 to 3, characterized by the fact that the adjusting element (38) is a screw.
5. Fitting in accordance with claims 1 to 4, characterized by the fact that the adjusting element (38) includes one end having the form of a truncated cone (37) interacting with the bevelled edge (36) of the cross-piece (29).
6. Fitting in accordance with claims 1 and 3, characterized by the fact that the adjusting element (38) is a cam, an eccentric or like device.
7. Fitting in accordance with claim 1, characterized by the fact that the horizontal slot (7) of the control rod (4) has an upper end (8) fitted with a retainer (9) partly covering the outside face (11) of the locking element (6) and a lower end (40) communicating through a slot (41) with a threaded hole (39) in which the element (38) of the compression device moves.
8. Fitting in accordance with claim 1, characterized by the fact that the locking element (6) has on its two longitudinal edges (24, 25) serrations (26, 27) whereby the locking element (6) is made reversible.
