Definitions

  • the invention was therefore based on the object, an inert, ie. H. not to develop annoying lubricants for the wet processes, especially for the switch and liming, in any work step of leather production.
  • This object is achieved by a method according to the claims.
  • Wet processes mean operations in the water workshop from the switch to the liming, the cooling, the pimple, the tanning, the retanning to the dyeing.
  • Suitable water-soluble polymers according to the invention are primarily suitable polymers containing carboxyl groups, for example polymers of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, partially saponified poly (meth) acrylic esters, in each case partially saponified poly (meth) acrylonitrile or poly (meth) acrylamide, carboxymethyl cellulose Copolymers of maleic anhydride with copolymerizable monomers such as styrene; Vinyl isobutyl ether; Ethylene; 1-olefins, such as isobutene, the anhydride groups of the polymer being hydrolyzed and the carboxyl groups formed being neutralized by bases.
  • suitable polymers containing carboxyl groups for example polymers of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, partially saponified poly (meth) acrylic esters, in each case partially saponified poly (meth) acrylonitrile or poly (meth) acrylamide, carboxymethyl cellulose Copolymers of maleic anhydride with copolymerizable
  • water-soluble high polymers without carboxyl groups for example poly (meth) acrylamide, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyethylene oxide, cationic, i.e. H.
  • Poly (meth) acrylic esters containing amino groups for example acryloyloxyethyl diethylamine, and of all the monomers mentioned with and without carboxyl groups, the copolymers with one another and with other copolymerizable monomers in amounts such that the polymers are still sufficiently water-soluble (at least 2 g / i) .
  • cationic and nonionic water-soluble polymers are preferred.
  • the polymers are used in concentrations of 0.05 to 2, preferably 0.2 to 1.7 g / l.
  • concentrations 0.05 to 2, preferably 0.2 to 1.7 g / l.
  • the effect below is too small; on the other hand, more is not necessary and also not desirable because the lubricant has to be washed out later and pollutes the waste water.
  • the decisive factor for the suitability of the polymers in the sense of the invention is their molecular weight. This is measured here by the K value according to H. Fikentscher, Cellulosechemie 13 (1932), pages 58 to 64 and 71 to 74, in 10% concentration in a 5% saline solution at 20 ° C. It should be more than 150, preferably 180 to 250. Polymers with lower K values do not give or (due to absorption through the skin) only temporarily the desired sliding effect; those with significantly higher K values are generally difficult to produce.
  • polyacrylic acid with an Engler viscosity at 25 ° C. in 20% aqueous solution of 1 to 50, preferably 2 to 8, is also used in pickling and tanning. A reduction in the friction of the skins is not mentioned there; the molecular weight of polyacrylic acid would also be far too low for this.
  • copolymers of acrylic acid containing quaternary ammonium salts which are also used according to DE-A-1 930 225 in the treatment, in particular in the tanning of hides, and an Engler viscosity at 20 ° C. in 20% aqueous solution of 1.2 up to 2.5 or molecular weights from 1000 to 50,000.
  • the molecular weights of the water-soluble polymers to be used according to the invention are in the order of millions. Even at about 1%, the solution is generally viscous and is therefore no longer usable in the sense of the invention.
  • the claims are based on the K value and not on the molecular weight, because the former is incomparably easier and more reliable to determine.
  • the chemicals are better distributed, thus better leather quality (reduction of bad hair removal in the area of the shooter); the energy consumption when rotating the barrels is lower; the formation of chafing and "false backs" is largely avoided, and curling up when processing halves no longer occurs; after all, the nakedness is much cleaner, although flushing time and flushing water consumption are less than usual.
  • the pelts are erased faster, smoother and have a finer grain than with a limer without the additive according to the invention. Rinsing is also faster.
  • Chromium tanning of bovine skins in a 3-chamber vessel Percentages based on the weight of the bare skin
