Description

The invention relates to devices for choosing, between coins or tokens able to roll, those which have a prescribed characteristic, which find application in automatic telephone boxes and in automatic machines for the sale of articles.

German Patent No. 602,908 describes an apparatus for this purpose comprising two magnets M and E which are not integral and one of which, M, is fixed, of the type according to which a part has the choice between two paths. If it is not magnetic, it is not attracted by magnet M and it falls through a window A. If it is magnetic in a correct way, it is attracted by magnet M and it continues on its way . If it is too magnetic, when it continues on, it attracts magnet E. But a very magnetic piece can, if it passes quickly enough, not be retained by magnet E. A non-magnetic piece can, if it is launched with skill, arriving at the window opposite the fixed magnet M and playing the role of a correct magnetic piece.

The invention overcomes these drawbacks by a device of very high safety which, in particular, prevents any too magnetized part from playing the role of a correct part.

The invention therefore relates to an apparatus for rejecting between coins or tokens those whose magnetic characteristic exceeds a prescribed threshold, comprising a path for coins having an opening in which engages a first magnet when a magnetic coin passes in the path opposite the opening and further comprising, upstream of the first magnet, a second magnet, characterized in that the second magnet is integral with the first and is shaped or positioned so that the magnetic force with which it is attracted to by a magnetic piece passing in front of it on the way is less than that with which the first magnet is attracted by this same piece when it passes in front of the opening.

When a magnetic piece passes in the way, it attracts the second magnet, which sets in motion the first. When it passes in front of the first magnet, it is attracted, if it is magnetic in a safe way, because any delay, due to mechanical inertia, is avoided thanks to the initial activation of the first magnet by the second. A too magnetic part, even sent at high speed, remains stuck to the first magnet.

When an obstacle normally blocks the path downstream of the first magnet and temporarily retracts out of the path only in response to the detection by the first magnet of a part having a magnetic characteristic greater than a given value, the operation is very safe, not only because, the path being closed positively, the passage of any abnormal part is prevented, but especially because the opening of the passage caused by a correct part is very safe, since one wins for sure inertia of the first magnet. Experience shows that no correct part is refused, whereas previously, in a device of the same type, one correct part out of 80 was refused. The magnetic force applied to the magnet forming the device is greater than that applied to the magnet forming the obstacle upstream, because the first magnet has more extent than the second and / or because the pole of the first magnet, the closest to the raceway, is closer to the raceway than the corresponding pole of the second magnet.

In the attached drawing, given solely by way of example:
  • Figures 1 and 2 are plan views of an apparatus according to the invention; and
  • Figure 3 is a partial perspective view.

The apparatus of Figures 1 to 3 consists of two vertical flanges 1, 2, parallel, spaced from each other by a distance just greater than the thickness of the parts having the prescribed characteristic. The lower edges of the flanges 1 and 2 are inclined downwards from the right to the left in FIG. 1 and are connected by a bottom, so as to define a raceway 3 for the P coins.

On the outer face of the flange 1 is fixed a yoke 4, the axis 5 of which is parallel to the flange 1 and is perpendicular to the direction followed by the parts P along the raceway 3. Two jaws 6 are integral with the axis 5 and enclose a permanent, cylindrical magnet 7. The axis 8 of the magnet 7 is coincident with an opening 9 formed in the flange 1, upstream of the yoke 4.

The axis 5 is integral with a latch 10 for locking, the spout 11, bent and pointed, facing an opening 12, formed in the flange 1, downstream of the yoke 4.

Before the bend of the latch 10, a counterweight 13 is fixed on the latch.

To each jaw 6 is welded a branch 14 of a clamp enclosing a magnet 15, of smaller dimension than the magnet 7 and of axis parallel to that of the latter, which can come in the raceway 3 passing through a opening 16 made in the flange 1 upstream of the opening 9.

Mais quand (figure 2) une pièce P ayant la caractéristique prescrite, en l'occurrence la pro-As shown in FIG. 1, in the absence of a magnetic piece P in front of the opening 9 and therefore in the absence of magnetic forces of attraction of the magnet 7, the counterweight 13 exerts a sufficiently large movement relative to to the magnets 7 and 15 so that the spout 11 crosses the opening 12 and bars the raceway 3 by constituting an obstacle to the passage of the parts both in one direction and in the other. But when (Figure 2) a part P having the prescribed characteristic, in this case the pro-

Le loquet 10 pivote dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre et le bec 11 s'écarte du chemin de roulement 3 par l'ouverture 12 en livrant passage à la pièce P. Dès qu'une pièce P ayant la caractéristique prescrite est passée devant l'ouverture 12, le contrepoids 23 ramène le bec 11 dans le chemin de roulement 3.request to be magnetic, passes in front of the opening 16, it begins to set in motion the magnet 15 and therefore also the magnet 7, so that, when the part P arrives in front of the opening 9, it attracts the magnet 7 in a safe way. The jaws 6 pivot and rotate the axis 5. The latch 10 pivots clockwise and the spout 11 moves away from the raceway 3 through the opening 12 giving passage to the part P. As soon as a part P having the prescribed characteristic has passed in front of the opening 12, the counterweight 23 brings the spout 11 back into the raceway 3.

But if a part P, which is too magnetic, remains stuck to the magnet 7, the obstacle 15 remains in the raceway 3 upstream of the stuck part P and prevents any arrival of a new part likely to take off the part P .
