Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a push button switch with a compressible switch capsule, this switch capsule containing two membranes embedded in a ring made of insulating material and each provided with a connection.
  • Such switch capsules are commercially available, in particular together with various types of pushbuttons and keyboards.
  • One of these known buttons has a cover made of elastic material, which closes the push button switch to the outside and which has to be pressed in in order to actuate the switch.
  • the transmission of the compressive force between the cover and the capsule takes place through an intermediate member made of rigid material, which acts on one of the membranes by means of a soft transfer piece.
  • the invention relates to a push button switch of the type described, which is characterized in that the intermediate member consists of a disc, the diameter of which exceeds the outer diameter of the switch capsule and which has a hole in the middle. At the edge of this disc there are vertically positioned parts directed against the switching capsule, which run outside the outer edge of the switching capsule and serve to guide and center the disc with respect to the capsule.
  • the transfer piece is pot-shaped, that it is arranged in the hole mentioned in such a way that its opening is directed against the capsule and that the diameter of this opening is at least 3/10 of the inner diameter of the ring mentioned is.
  • the cover of the button is designed as a cap, and a special design of this cap and other parts of the switch makes it possible for its essential parts to be watertight.
  • the button shown consists of a circular trough, preferably made of metal, with a flat bottom 2, and a hollow cylindrical wall 1.
  • a switch capsule of a known type is attached on the inside of this bottom.
  • This switching capsule has a ring 5 made of insulating material, in which an upper membrane 6 and a lower membrane 7 are embedded. Pressure on the upper membrane deforms it and touches the lower membrane in a manner not shown, as a result of which two connections, which are explained later, are connected to one another.
  • the ring 5 has on its outer edge four indentations 8, each offset by 90 °, which are necessary for the manufacture of the capsule not related to the invention.
  • an intermediate member which consists of a circular disk 9, preferably made of metal, with a hole arranged in its center, into which hole a preferably made of rubber Transfer piece 10 is pressed.
  • the diameter of the disk 9 is larger than the outer diameter of the ring 5, and four pins 11 perpendicular to it are attached to the edge of this disk in a regular arrangement. These pins 11 are now arranged in such a way that they fit into the indentations 8, and their length corresponds at most to the height of the ring 5.
  • the transmission piece 10 is cup-shaped and has a collar 12, thanks to which its position within the disc 9 is precisely defined. Since the transfer piece 10 with its opening 13 is directed against the membrane 6, the intermediate member lies along a circular line on the membrane.
  • the intermediate link is guided on the outer edge of the ring 5 and is therefore also centered and cannot be displaced by eccentric pressure movements.
  • the advantageous effect of the pins 11 is not tied to the indentations 8; the pins could also be routed along a regular edge.
  • components of the disk forming, bent at right angles could also be present, or the disk could be bowl-shaped due to the corresponding shaping of its edge.
  • the diameter of the opening 13 must be at least 3/10 of the inner diameter of the ring 5, for example 3.2 to 9 mm, which corresponds to 7/20. Good results are also achieved with larger openings, and only when the diameter of the opening 13 approaches the diameter of the ring is it no longer possible to operate properly.
  • the whole switch is covered by a one-piece cap 16 made of elastic material, which is put over the tub described earlier.
  • the cap has an inwardly directed bead 22 on its lower edge. This bead lies on the outer edge of the tub and is dimensioned such that it is slightly higher than the outer wall of the tub between the outside of the bottom 2 and the shoulder 17. As a result, this bead 22 is clamped between the shoulder 17 and the base 18 when the Trough is attached to the base by tightening the nuts 23 attached to the pipe pieces 4. This results in a watertight seal between the surface of the base 18 directed against the switch and the inside of the switch. Due to the thinning 24 of the cap applied in the area of the transfer piece 10, the overall height of the switch can be reduced without the entire cap being chosen to be thinner and the rigidity of the cap therefore having to be significantly impaired.
  • the invention relates not only to switches with a circular trough and a circular disc 9. These parts can also have an oval shape, as a result of which there is an oval surface for actuating the switch. Under these conditions, the smallest diameter of the disk 9 is also larger than the outer diameter of the ring 5.
